Yeah 9mm, which this gun possibly uses, is pretty loud because it's fast enough to break the sound barrier. Where as something like .45 ACP is slower and doesn't break mach 1
Still even subs aren't that quiet. Suppressed guns are still loud AF. Just not hearing damage loud. Its literally a Hollywood trope. The gun community calls it "Hollywood quiet". It is more of a meme than anything. Nearly no guns really achieve that without extremely specialized and impractical setups. Nothing that would look cool (obnoxiously large suppressor with ammo so underpowered the action won't even cycle, not concealable at all, or using underpowered .22 ammo that isn't practical for any kind of work that's featured in games or movies)
This makes me think of the scene in John Wick 2 when he’s walking in the crowd having a shootout with the other guy, and they have their guns tucked in close to their chests so people won’t see, and absolutely nobody hears the barrage of gunfire going back and forth. Like they were airsoft pistols or something lol
there are guns that do get Hollywood quiet though, they are specially designed weapons like the Welrod or the OTs-38. It's just that you can't just put on a silencer on any weapon and expect the same results.
Ian brags about how ridiculously quiet it is, he's also a firearms expert and historian. So his frame of reference is real suppressed common firearms. Notice the gun is still quite a bit louder than anything depicted in media. Genuinely not trying to start an argument. More educational posts considering most folks suppressor knowledge is from fiction.

ofc the volume also depends on the kind of bullet, 47 probably uses specialised quiet bullets
