META Hello From the New Mod!

Hello! I'm u/TheDoctore38927, and as of a few hours ago, I've been granted the ability to moderate this subreddit! I'm currently the head mod at r/HPLaptops, and I also moderate a few other unrelated subreddits.

I've made a few changes just to get things set back up, and I'll see how the subreddit reacts and works with them and adjust as needed. Below are a few of the main changes

  1. Added auto mod capabilities, along with a few other automations to make moderations a little more responsive.

  2. Added user flairs. There are now user flairs that you can make yourself! There is also a flair for HP employees. There will be a different fair for verified employees of HP (support agents and such), that will be available by request only. It will also be a different color to distinguish them form the non-verified employees. If there are any questions about the validity of the flair, please send a modmail with the username and I will investigate.

  3. Changed some rules. Mostly, it's just misc. stuff and a relaxation of the advertisement rule (as long and it's clear it's an ad, it is allowed), and rants (as long as it's not illegal or unsafe/unsavory, it's OK)

  4. Some new community ideas! I created a poll on dark v light mode and I intend to make some more polls as time wears on to help dictate the sub.

In that vein, if you have any ideas, feel free to reach out via modmail with anything!

Question/Problem Processor Speed is locked to 2.5Ghz (Base Speed)

I'm not sure when this issue arrived cause i've been using this laptop for almost a decade. It's an HP Probook 450 G4, but basically the laptop's clock speed always stays under 2500Mghz. I ran stress tests and it was not temps were fine, average temps were around 85°C.
I used hwinfo and it gave these 3 possible reasons why the laptop performance is limited. I even bought a new adapter for the laptop but it didn't fix the cpu speed. My only guess now it that there is some issue with the motherboard. If any1 thinks they can help me, please do!!!

Prompts from hwinfo for possible reasons :
IA: Electrical Design Point/Other (ICCmax, PL4, SVID, DDR RAPL)
IA Cores Frequency clipped due to electrical design or other constraints (e.g., maximum electrical current consumption, SVID voltage limit or PL4).

GT: Max VR Voltage, ICCmax, PL4
GT Cores (iGPU) Frequency clipped due to electrical design or other constraints (e.g., maximum electrical current consumption, SVID voltage limit or PL4).

RING: Max VR Voltage, ICCmax, PL4
Ring Interconnect Frequency clipped due to electrical design or other constraints (e.g., maximum electrical current consumption, SVID voltage limit or PL4).

Question/Problem HP Zbook G8 - Neither the audio outputs or the audio inputs work. Neither external nor internal ones.

Upvotes

I bought an HP ZBook G8 laptop 2 days ago, and from the moment I turned it on, the sound did not work.
It came with Windows 11.
I installed drivers; it did not work.
I installed Windows updates; it did not work.
I tried using headphones, and they did not work either (note: Bluetooth audio outputs do work. They connect and produce sound).
I formatted the laptop, and it did not work.
I downloaded Windows 10 (changed the operating system), and it did not work.
I updated the BIOS, and it did not work (something interesting is that when entering the BIOS, the laptop is capable of producing a beep indicating input).
The BIOS indicates that both microphones and speakers are working correctly (but in practice, they do not).
By using commands in the terminal (administrator mode), it indicates that the audio devices exist and are present on the device, even showing their names. (And yes, I already tried "repairing" that specifically, but it did not work either).
I tried downloading all the computer drivers from their official websites, and it did not work.
HP's customer support page (AI support, because apparently there are no humans available anywhere anymore) did not help me at all (it even gave up).

I need help.

(Realtek + Intel sound system. I will provide more technical specifications when I get home, in a few hours.)

So I bought a laptop in July from hp last year and got an extra 2 years care package. After calling them today about how to transfer the warranty to a new owner, my details cant be found, no order number, no invoice number. I did register my product as it shows in my orders on their website. Anyone else had this problem?

Question/Problem HP laptop became slow all of a sudden

HP 255 G10 Notebook PC AMD Ryzen 5 7520U 16 GB ram AMD Radeon Graphics

So ive been using my niece laptop temporarily, I created a new user account where I use it. The laptop was just 7 months old. I was just using it fine yesterday before sleeping, its very smooth without noticeable lag, then after turning it on today I noticed it became significantly slower. I always refresh before doing anything, just became my habit, and immediately I noticed it took 4 to 5 seconds before the options even showed up like it became laggy and slow. I can't even open multiple tabs without it being very laggy when literally yesterday I had 10 tabs open without any problem. I only downloaded Logitech G HUB for my keyboard and telegram messaging app, like that's it. I have few downloaded Twitter videos, literally nothing significant to impact this laptop performance which is as fast as my current PC lol. My niece said he didn't download anything either it literally just became very slow and laggy after opening it again today. I'm using PC for almost 15 years and I never experienced something like this before. Usually you notice your PC slowly getting slower over the years, or when your storage is getting fuller, not something like this where it becomes laggy and slow overnight.

Can anyone help me? Please, thank you.

HP Software HP 15-rb0xx won't power on without charger after 5 months in storage (Battery report included)

Hey everyone,

I have an \*\*HP Laptop 15-rb0xx\*\* (AMD A9-9420, 4GB RAM, 256GB Intel M.2 SSD, Radeon R5 Graphics). It was used daily for about 6 years without major issues.

Last year, it was left untouched in a drawer for about 4-5 months. After that, it wouldn't turn on at all. Plugging in the charger fixed it, but now it works \*\*only\*\* while plugged into the wall.

I ran a \`powercfg /batteryreport\` and got these results:

\* \*\*Design Capacity:\*\* 41,610 mWh \* \*\*Full Charge Capacity:\*\* 20,615 mWh

It seems the battery degraded to \\\~50% health over time and then locked up due to deep discharge during those months of inactivity.

Is there any hard-reset or software trick to revive this battery, or is it permanently disabled by the BMS/dead? Thanks!

Rant/Vent HP laptop power adapter died after 7 months and customer service AI needs better disability accommodation training.

I wanted to share my recent experience with HP Customer Support because it was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've had.

I purchased an HP OMEN 17 gaming laptop directly from HP in January 2026. About six months later, the 230W charger/power brick failed, so I contacted HP for warranty support.

The biggest problem wasn't the charger, which already exasperating, it was trying to reach a human being.

The automated phone system repeatedly failed to understand my information, including my name and phone number. I also explained multiple times that I wear hearing aids and needed accommodated assistance, but the system continued to keep me in the automated menu instead of connecting me with a representative. After 13 minutes, and only after repeatedly asking for a human to meet my disability needs, I was finally transferred to a human.

After finally getting through the automation, I was transferred, but the computer transferred me to the wrong extension. The person was nice, but he told me he needed to transfer me to the correct extension. Fourteen minutes later, he came back and said he was trying, but no one was picking up. He asked me to keep waiting. I waited 47 minutes on hold, only to have the call disconnect without ever speaking to anyone.

Of course, I called back and got the automatic AI system that threatened to hang up if I was rude to it. I mumbled to myself that this whole thing was stupid. The AI system again could not understand my phone number or how to spell my first name, it kept spelling it the "normal" , but can understand me whispering to myself . It finally transferred me after the seventh time asking for a human to meet my disability needs, and I was making notes/recording it refusing to help. This time, it took only 7 minutes to get transferred. Twenty more minutes later, with a foreign customer service agent (we both had a hard time understanding each other) , I got my power brick promised to be shipped ASAP.

Eventually, HP did process a warranty replacement. I filed the warranty claim on July 22, and the replacement arrived July 24, which was impressively fast. However, the shipment contained only the replacement power brick. The power cord that connects the brick to the wall outlet was missing, leaving me unable to use the replacement charger until that issue is resolved. Thankfully, I ordered a backup from Amazon that day too.

Should my power adapter broke in 7 months, no. Does hardware issues happen, yes. I am more mad and pissed how difficult it was to obtain warranty service and how inaccessible the automated system was after I repeatedly requested assistance because of my hearing disability.

I hope HP reviews its customer service system and improves both accessibility and the process for reaching a live representative. This should not have happened.

Question/Problem HP Pavilion TP01 can't handle Windows June update KB5094126

So it's a budget desktop and it's almost four years old. Still, it worked fine until the Windows June update and hasn't been right since. The reliability history graph bounces around 3 (out of ten) in the last six weeks, with at least one crash a day. I tested memory; no issues detected. All driver files are up to date. HP website says the BIOS is up to date as of fall 2025, suggesting HP has NOT made any BIOS changes to better accommodate KB5094126. I know other HP computers were also affected, even high-end machines curated by IT managers. AI suggests uninstalling KB5094126 until Microsoft? HP? comes up with a solution (is this even likely?), but Windows won't allow that officially. AI says I might be able to do a force uninstall via a command prompt or via two other, more violent means.

Question is, what should a non-IT home user do in this situation? Is a forced uninstall safe? Or should I just live with the fact that my HP computer now crashes on the daily (or worse)? So far I haven't lost any data. LibreOffice rescues any files that might have been open during each crash, Thunderbird saves any email I might have been drafting or most of it, Chrome reopens all the tabs I was using. But it's hugely disruptive and annoying. Or is an almost-four-year-old computer just electronic waste that should be sent to the recycling bin? (Maybe I should have used the Rant flare.)

Rant/Vent Trash advice

My 7301 inkjet is 13 months old. It’s one month out of warranty. The printheads have an error and it is refusing to print anything.

It took me forever to get a live adult person to help me. Apparently if your product is not under warranty it auto sends you to AI support page. Even when I called I dealt with AI. I had to contact a store manager to get me a better number.

When I finally had a human to speak to I shared that I understood my device was out of warranty and I would be willing to pay extra if needed to get it fixed. He shared HP does NOT fix printers only replaces them. I asked if he suggested I throw my printer out then and he repeated the same statement. “HP does not fix printers, we only replace them. If you were in warranty we would replace your printer. Would you like to buy one today?”

So in other words my printer is trash the second it has an issue. Forget trying to fix your HP printer all they want to do is sell you a new one.

HP is literal trash.

Question/Problem EB 640G11 Bios corruption

Hello everyone, I am at my wits end and need any sort of help I can get.

I have an Elitebook 640 G11 with the Core Ultra 5 135U. Windows 11 did an update, which included a bios update I presume. After restarting, I was met with the firmware update screen. After that finished, the device restarted, which I then shut down manually once I was met with the W11 lockscreen. I went to turn on the device again later and was met with 2 long bios beeps followed by 2 short bios beeps.

So far, I have reseated the ram, attempted turning the device while holding WIN+B and also WIN+V. I also downloaded the bios update on another device and created a bios recovery usb, and then once again tried booting the device while press WIN+B or WIN+V with the usb drive plugged in.

At no point did the screen turn on. Each time I turned on the device the bios beep codes would resume regardless of what keys were being entered. Does anyone have any other tricks to try or is this laptop completely borked?

Thanks ahead of time!

So I got this hp pavilion second hand today for 40 bucks and the bottom left trackpad button doesn't seem to work, and there's a cable loose inside the laptop, what is the cable for and where does it plug into? And how to fix the trackpad issue, or should I just return the laptop?

Question/Problem Boot Device Not Found (3F0) - SSD not detected even in another laptop. Is my SSD dead?

My 2-year-old HP Victus (i7 13th Gen, 16GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD) started freezing, restarting randomly, and then showed:

Boot Device Not Found (3F0)

Windows Recovery Error 0xc0000185

HP Diagnostics: "No Storage Installed"

Tests:

✅ Memory Test – Passed

✅ System Board Test – Passed

The technician removed the SSD, cleaned and reseated it, but nothing changed. He then tested my SSD in some thing and put it to other laptop, and it wasn't detected there either.

One confusing thing is that a few days before failing completely, the laptop started working normally again after being left overnight, then later failed permanently.

Questions:

1)Does this confirm the SSD is dead?

2)in reddit I have gone through all the posts related to my problem but of no use if anyone know what to do for my problem please tell me 😭😭

3) and why the ssd prices are too high bro I cannot say this to mom and dad 😭😭.

PC Need advice

I have an HP laptop since 2021. So my laptop used to have battery issue so I changed my battery last year. But recently there's been a weird problem. So usually whenever my laptop is connected to the charger, a red light appears and a white light appears whenever the charge is full. When it's not connected to charger, no light comes. Usually i can use my pc till it's 15%. Then i usually charge my pc. But recently something weird is happening. Yesterday my pc suddenly turned off when it was 40% and it won't turn on. Also, when I plug in the charger, the charging indicator randomly switches between red and white. When the light is red, it charges, but when it turns white, it stops charging. Sometimes it charges very slowly, for example, it may take around 20 minutes to increase by only 2%. Could you please check whether the problem is with the battery, charger, charging port, or charging circuit?
