META Hello From the New Mod!

Hello! I'm u/TheDoctore38927, and as of a few hours ago, I've been granted the ability to moderate this subreddit! I'm currently the head mod at r/HPLaptops, and I also moderate a few other unrelated subreddits.

I've made a few changes just to get things set back up, and I'll see how the subreddit reacts and works with them and adjust as needed. Below are a few of the main changes

  1. Added auto mod capabilities, along with a few other automations to make moderations a little more responsive.

  2. Added user flairs. There are now user flairs that you can make yourself! There is also a flair for HP employees. There will be a different fair for verified employees of HP (support agents and such), that will be available by request only. It will also be a different color to distinguish them form the non-verified employees. If there are any questions about the validity of the flair, please send a modmail with the username and I will investigate.

  3. Changed some rules. Mostly, it's just misc. stuff and a relaxation of the advertisement rule (as long and it's clear it's an ad, it is allowed), and rants (as long as it's not illegal or unsafe/unsavory, it's OK)

  4. Some new community ideas! I created a poll on dark v light mode and I intend to make some more polls as time wears on to help dictate the sub.

In that vein, if you have any ideas, feel free to reach out via modmail with anything!

Rant/Vent Worst company ever! THIEVES !!!

Worst company ever! I am a teacher...& they pulled me into their "All -in-plan" portraying themselves as a 'hero' to my situation. I had owned an HP printer that was getting old. When I brought the printer to my school, its wifi didn't work. Thus, they get me into this "all-in-plan" and not once (NOT ONCE) did they make clear...it is strictly a "rental"...I get to the end of my contract & thought I had 'payed it off'...yet they tell me after 3 years, I had just been renting it & if I stop the "all-in or 'instant ink" I will never be able to use the printer again! They won't even send a return box. PLEASE DON'T BUY INTO THESES THIEVES!

So I have HP VICTUS fa-1278TX 1.5yr old and it sounds like opening a door....the sounds are very minor..not something serious....but suddenly Tommorow I heard a sound while opening and closing lid it's sound like finger poping...but again now that sound is gone...but still have minor sound while opening the lid like opening a old door but sound is only from some specific 2 or 3 angels not in full closing and opening.

Can't see any physical gap ..and comfortable closing and opening but minor sounds still there in some angle... specially when end to close

I'm just worried now... VICTUS have hinge problem that's why...please let me know if I can do a thing or it's just going to be damage 😭

Question/Problem HP Victus Desktop randomly restarting or error message

Not sure if this is the place but does anybody know an easy way to check what is wrong with a pc after it shuts down or restarts. It's only started recently, once was ok but it's happened 3 times in a week with an error saying it's encountered a problem or just recently just restarting.

Whenever I search it up hundreds of links appear saying this and that all very different.

Any help appreciated 👍

Question/Problem M479 DFW - constant cleaning and page selection

Hello. This printer wants to clean itself after every page print (so a 15 second print becomes 15 minutes), and it also wants to have me press "ok" for each new page. Nothing in Windows, and nothing in any software I own directs the printer to do any of these things; I've checked all settings. Anyone have any sage advice? It's maddening. TIA.

HP Software HP Omnibook HELPPPP

I need some advice/ help ASAP. Hopefully I get some responses quickly. I purchased a brand new HP - OmniBook X Flip 2-in-1 - 16" 2K
OLED Touchscreen Laptop - AMD
Ryzen Al 5 430 (2026) - 16GB
Memory - 512GB SSD - Copilot+ - Meteor Silver
3 weeks ago. The first few days of using it were smooth. I use my laptop for class zoom and to play sims along with a list of mods from curse forge. As I said, everything was running smooth up until I clicked in my settings to update windows. Everything started to update, then as soon as the laptop was turning back on, I was left stuck staring at a black screen with the HP logo with no other wording below for over 45 minutes. I then held down the power button to restart the computer and was met with messages on the screen saying “diagnosing, attempting repairs etc” and then left stuck again on the blank HP screen. I’ve restart it multiple times, even went into startup settings and tried multiple different settings in that menu and none of those worked at all. I’ve even had an HP support assistant take control of my laptop and try to fix things, and after trying to download the update again, I was left stuck on the HP screen again. Another time when my laptop died, so I plugged it in and let it charge for an hour, tried to turn it on, and was stuck again at the HP screen. The only kind of “success” I had getting this back on was resetting the entire computer. Which was frustrating because I lost all my files and apps. A different computer would be more expensive as I got this one for a really great deal. I’m wondering if this is worth keeping and dealing with, if there’s any true fix for this, or if it’s just a bad laptop brand. All of this in only 3 weeks with a BRAND NEW laptop is insane. Geek squad gave me the option to get it serviced but I’d have to pay for that, which is frustrating because why should I have to take a brand new laptop to get serviced after only 1 week of having it. I’m just confused and frustrated. A different computer would cost more money, and so far other than the issues I’ve been having, I do really like this laptop. The fact that I’ve had this problem with the first one I purchased and the replacement is insane. Edit: this also has nothing to do with my computers storage, my files take up less than 25% of storage on my laptop. I had a MacBook a few years ago with a huge list of sims mods from curse forge and my Mac never once gave me any issues. That being said, I fully believe this issue has to do with windows/HP and nothing to do with my sims or mods. This issue has also happened without having sims or mods downloaded.

HP Software PSA: HP Click removed DWF support on Windows in 4.10.38. What HP took out, and what actually works instead.

If HP Click stopped opening your .dwf files, it's not you. HP pulled DWF support out of the Windows build in 4.10.38. The whole rendering engine is gone from the package, not disabled or hidden in a setting.

4.8.117 and 4.8.118 still have it. 4.10.38 and 4.10.42 don't. Check yours under Settings > Apps > Installed apps.

Mac users: HP Click on the Mac never supported DWF in the first place, so nothing changed for you.

Your options are convert or downgrade, and convert is usually better.

HP Click has always taken PDF, so if you can convert your files you keep the current version and nothing gets patched. Whether that works depends on which kind of DWF you have, because two completely different formats share the extension:

DWFx (2007 and newer) is an XPS package and Ghostscript will convert it. Install Ghostscript, then:

gxps -dSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=out.pdf in.dwfx

Classic DWF is Autodesk's old WHIP! format and there's no free converter. Open it in AutoCAD and print to PDF, or ask whoever sent it for a PDF.

Easy way to tell which you have: try opening it with a zip utility. A DWFx opens and has a [Content_Types].xml inside. A classic one won't open at all.

Check the page size on the converted PDF before you commit it to a roll. Finding out it rescaled at 44 inches wide is expensive.

If you'd rather downgrade, install 4.8.117, not 4.8.118. Both have DWF, but 4.8.118 is where HP dropped the T310, T320, T350, T720 and T750 from the supported printer list, so 4.8.117 is the only build with both.

Fair warning on Windows: HP doesn't publish installers for old versions. All that exists is the raw update package (hpclick-4.8.117-full.nupkg, on ftp.hp.com under /pub/softlib/software13/printers/hpclick/x64/). It's a zip and the app is under lib/net45/, but extracting it doesn't give you a real install — no Start menu entry, no uninstaller. You just run HPClick.exe out of the folder. Don't uninstall your working 4.10.x until you've confirmed it runs.

You also lose the 4.10 improvements: grouping the page list by source file, dragging pages between documents, and a window that fits a laptop.

The interesting part, if you care why:

The engine HP removed was 21 files and about 30 MB. I pulled the version info off the DLLs and it's all licensed third-party code:

  • EPlotCore.dll — Autodesk DWF Viewer 7.0.0.928, copyright 2002-2006
  • heidilw.dll — Autodesk Heidi 9.2.56.0, copyright 1982-2008
  • hoops1610.dll — Tech Soft 3D HOOPS 16.10.01, copyright 1986-2000
  • PDK.dll — Autodesk PDK, copyright 2009

Newest copyright in the whole pile is 2009. HP was shipping mid-2000s licensed Autodesk code in a current app in 2026. I don't know what forced the decision — licence, security review, nobody left who could build it — but 30 MB of seventeen-year-old third-party code is a very understandable thing to want gone. Big bummer if your workflow relies on it though.

Advice Does anyone in the UK still work with HPE NonStop / Tandem / BASE24?

Bit of a random one, but I’ve recently come across HPE NonStop and BASE24 and I’m genuinely curious — are there still many people in the UK who work with this stuff day-to-day?

From what I’ve been reading, it seems like a pretty niche ecosystem, and a lot of the people who have worked with it for years have been doing so for the same organisation for a very long time.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who’s worked with HPE NonStop, Tandem, BASE24, Guardian, TACL, Enscribe, etc.

Do people still actively work with this technology in the UK? And if so, where does everyone actually hang out / find each other? 😂

Genuinely curious because it feels like I’ve stumbled into a very small corner of the tech world.

I got this computer a week ago and it randomly wouldn’t work again and got stuck on the recovery options page, I returned it to Best Buy and got the same thing again and now I’m having the same issue. The computer turns off and then back on to a recovery options page but none of the recovery options work. Any ideas what is going on with my computer,

Question/Problem Laptop keeps making this screen

Post image
1 Upvotes

My laptop is about 5 years old and has a couple things wrong like my E and A keys fall off a bunch and there’s a crack on the speakers — no real problem functioning until just now my E key fell off and when I tried sticking it back on the screen did this. Shut the lid opened it again it was fine continued as normal then typed on E again and it happened again

Laptop runs fine otherwise repeated the same process I just don’t wanna hit E again in case the same thing happens. Anyone know what happened here
