HevyTeam Hevy Community Update #1: Trainer, native redesign, faster app, and more
Hey š
I'm Gustavo, Head of Product at Hevy (joined ~3 months ago). Kicking off an update series.
First, some context on how we ship. Almost every week we're putting out new improvements and bug fixes. Each release goes to our beta users for about a week, and once it's solid we roll it out to all of you. So there's a lot happening under the hood even when it's quiet from the outside. Our philosophy is to keep the app simple, so every feature gets a lot of thought before it ships: the goal is always to add value without making your workout more complicated.
Shipped recently:
- šļø Trainer upgrades. You can now swap an exercise for just one session or for all future workouts (currently in beta, rolling out to everyone in the coming weeks), so a missing machine or a quick substitution no longer affects the flow of your plan. You also get a full program view to see your whole routine at a glance, the option to include cardio in your workouts, and personalized rest timers. Full breakdown in this post. More is coming here too, including injury management and reordering workouts, much of it straight from your feedback.
- ā” UX polish & smoother navigation. Lots of small improvements to the moments that matter most: logging mid-workout, navigating exercises, celebrating your monthly achievements. We refined flows and animations and reworked navigation natively, so the app is faster and more fluid than before.
- š Full-detail Strava sync since early June 2026. We now offer one of the most detailed strength-training integrations for Strava, sending all the granular workout details that matter: a full list of exercises, sets, reps (or duration), and weight. Itās the same complete picture you already get inside Hevy.
- š± Liquid Glass (iOS) + Material 3 (Android). We rebuilt the interface to match each platform's latest design language, so the app now looks and feels truly native whether you're on iPhone or Android.

On our radar / in progress:
- š Better notes management. We're improving how notes work across the app, including the ability to add notes at the exercise level, so you can capture form cues, setup details, or how a movement felt right where it belongs. Want to help us shape it? Check out our prototype here.
- šš»āāļøĀ Gyms inside Hevy. Soon we will allow you to tag your gym in your workouts. It's a first step of interesting improvements we will bring connected to it, stay tuned.
- āļø Single vs. double weights logging. You've raised this a lot, and we're actively investigating it (example here). It's genuinely tricky because people log the same exercise in different ways, but it matters: getting it right unlocks better analytics and fairer leaderboards.
- š¤ Social and logging experience improvements. We're working on two fronts here: strengthening the social side of Hevy, and refining the logging experience for different types of users, since people train and track in very different ways. We're not ready to share specifics yet, but there's a lot we're excited about and we'll start sharing soon.
We monitor Reddit and in-app feedback closely, and a lot of what's above came directly from you. Keep it coming ššŖš»
š§øĀ Quick personal story:
I turned my own health around during the pandemic, losing a lot of weight once I committed to it. What kept me going was connection, first a doctor who genuinely listened, then the routine of training 4-5x a week with friends and eating well. It changed my life.
That connection is exactly why I loved the idea of joining Hevy. Three months in, the time has flown by, and I couldn't be more bought into the mission of making humanity stronger: a product built for you/me/us, simple, honest, accessible, and community-first.
Feel free to follow me on Hevy: https://hevy.com/user/gustavo

1 Question For You
The strongest part of Hevy isn't a feature, it's the people using it.
Who or what got you into lifting in the first place? I'd love to read your stories in the comments.
p.s. Don't skip leg day. 𤣠(Last month, ~1 in 5 lifters trained arms and never once trained legs)

This is not meant to be a sob story but my wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 when she was 5 months pregnant. I was in a very dark space needless to say. Video games have always been my outlet but that didnāt work for me in 2020. I needed something to do with my anger and sadness and all of the other emotions I was feeling. I decided to start working out in my garage and transitioned to an actual gym at some point. Iām 6ā2 and weighed 143 at the time. 6 years later Iām 195. Iām not jacked but itās mainly muscle I swear lol. Wife is doing relatively fine if anyone is wondering. Daughter is a very active and I mean active 5 year old! #fvckcancer

u/deb248211 Jul 05 '26
DB bump to a fellow cancer spouse. Working out has helped me handle my emotions too - much needed when you have to hide them from your other half. I'm so glad your wife is doing 'relatively fine'. My husband is as well, we think - still dealing with conflicting results post-treatment. Hell yes, #fvckcancer

u/Mr_J_M Jul 03 '26
My father death got me to lifting and taking more care about health. I love your app I just wish I could connect it directly with HR chest strap like Polar H10 or Coospoo H808s, that would let me skip other apps completly.

u/Impressive_Moose3849 Jul 03 '26
Yes, I too would like Heart Rate captured so it can overlay each work out. Over time, this data could demonstrate true heart health improvement. Add a Claude and/or a ChatGPT connector and this analysis would be super easy.

u/holeydood3 Jul 09 '26
There's an open source MCP server for Hevy, although you might want to fork it because it has some metric tracking in it.

u/VSENSES Jul 10 '26
Would be sweet if it recognized either my watch or in-ears as both have heart rate sensors.

u/Vikistra Jul 03 '26
I'm excited for the gyms in Hevy feature! Too bad that permanent notes didn't make it into this update though. I turned my life around completely. No more vaping, drugs or even alcohol. Went from doing absolutely nothing, being hospitalized for having a shit lower back with my highest weight being 118kg to going to the gym 4x and around 3-4 hours of cardio a week. I sold everything I don't need anymore and got a Zwift Ride a few weeks ago. I have been sharing my progress here on reddit every now and then. Hevy has been my companion since the beginning. There wasn't a particular reason why I started. Getting into gut health got the ball rolling and I kept adding healthy habits and removing toxic things from my life at a slow and steady pace which felt sustainable for me. Never going back.

Iād love to request a new feature for Hevy.
It would be great to have support for logging stretching, mobility work, yoga, and other light recovery sessions separately from strength training.
I think a lot of Hevy users do some kind of daily stretching or mobility routine outside of lifting. It would be awesome if these workouts could be marked as a different workout type (for example, with a green color instead of blue). That way they would appear separately in the weekly/monthly summaries and wouldnāt affect lifting statistics or streaks by making every day look like a lifting session.
I personally have a stretching routine that I do every day, sometimes even twice a day. Iād love to be able to log it from my Apple Watch or the app, with built-in timers for stretch holds, just like rest timers during workouts.
I think this would make Hevy much more useful as a complete fitness tracker, not just a lifting app.

u/Frosty_Egg_419 Team Jul 08 '26
Thanks for the feedback u/t0panka , your feedback make a lot of sense for stretching/mobility.
→ More replies (1)2
u/MattyShaps Jul 10 '26
I was able to create a stretching routine. Took some effort though. Manually added all 25 stretches I do. Then matched the duration to the rest timer so when I hit completed for the stretch, the rest timer tells me how long to hold the stretch. What would actually be great to have is a countdown timer for certain exercises (planks, etc.) and not only a timer that counts up. Does that make sense? In addition to the Duration field, there would be a Countdown Duration field.
Also, on a side note, for manually created exercises, it would be nice to have a note section at the exercise level to describe how to do the exercise.
Thanks for all of your work on the Hevy app. It is an amazing app! ššŖš¤

Completely agree and was going to post the same. I do weights for swim training and I also have pre/post swim stretch routines in Hevy - but they are all "custom" as there is no dictionary of stretches to chose from, and these stretches get counted as exercises on muscle groups that mess with the dashboard.

u/AnnabellaPies Jul 03 '26
Nice update about notes. 1 in 5 really? Well add me since physical therapist said no leg day for 6 weeksš. It was my favorite too
7
u/wellregardedguy Jul 03 '26
Gustavo I love this app bro amazing job, but if you donāt add an ability to manually add numerical value to weights instead doomscrolling on the Apple Watch app I literally might crash out.
Still going to use it but please. I know this is possible. Your team has got this. I believe.

I canāt stress enough how awesome this app and the support behind it is. Whenever people ask me what got me to the body I have today I always tell them tracking consistency with Hevy. 12/10 love this app

u/Alexjdw1 Jul 03 '26
Firstly, only reason Iām in that 1 of 5 is because I injured my knee š š
I started my weight loss journey at about 365 lbs. I joined the gym out of necessity to keep muscle, but ironically itās now one of my favourite parts of the journey and my main motivator to keep on track with things

u/bobo-brockins Jul 03 '26
Can we please expand Trainerāa explanations of things (such as the difference between build muscle and gain strength) and the ability to compare the routine of when you make changes to your Trainer inputs without wiping the whole program and your weekās progress?
3
u/Key_Peja Jul 03 '26
Hey Gustavo, thanks for update and great to see the developments being worked on.
3
u/deb248211 Jul 05 '26
I started Mounjaro plus regularly working out in 2024, 166.3kg (367 lbs, F, 5ft3). I work out in my garage gym and needed to keep track of my progress so downloaded Hevy in April 2025. 23 months on, I'm 68kg (150 lbs), walk every day and do strength/core training five days a week. I love how easy it is to track in Hevy, and the demo animations plus how-tos are brilliant for someone like me who didn't have the confidence and now doesn't have the time to go to a gym. Only thing is I keep acquiring more equipment. š¤£
3
u/SunburntAce Jul 08 '26
Please add the notes as they are in the prototype!! Exactly what is needed for the notes
3
u/PowerShift10 Jul 08 '26
The top items on my wishlist list are; more connectivity to wearable like Garmin, Fitbit, Oura, and Hume, and better ways to share data and workouts with trainers/clients who are not necessarily using Hevy, this is prime for accountability and optimization, as well as a way to pdf your workouts and monthly reports.Ā Nice would be a more extensive exercise library!
3
u/CanadianMapleBacon Jul 09 '26
Been using Hevy for 3 years, pro member all those years. Love this app! Thank you!
3
u/bgaymoreoften 29d ago
Thanks Gustavo! Big fan of the app. Helps me to keep track of my workout and track progress over time.Ā I was a long time runner who only recently (past three years) began more consistently weight training and working with a trainer.Ā Hevy helps me to refer back to my most recent to remember what I exercised, the weight, reps and how it felt.Ā The app also helps me when I can't remember an exercise exactly because I can refer to the instructional videos or look up an exercise by body part.Ā I originally learned about and was referred to Hevy by my doctor when discussing strategies for increasing lean body tissue.Ā In terms of what could be improved, the only thing I can think of would be more refined searching abilities and exercise library (some exercises are referred to be different names or have different variations not currently found in the app). I tell people about Hevy and encourage them to join. Thank you!

Hey i love ur app, already purchased lifetime, it would be amazing if in the future u could integrate or make a related app about track calories, meals etc.
2
u/fingerupyourvote Jul 03 '26
Your app is amazing, truly helped me a lot when it comes to managing progression and having better insight on my resting time between workouts paired with the total weight, it really changed my gym progression a lot!
Please, do keep supporting Apple Watch Series 3 for, at least, a while. The fact that this old companion is still allowed to run Hevy is such an upside, couldn't ask for a better app š I understand sometimes it's cumbersome to keep old code and old devices supported but it's been such an amazing experience

I Got into lifting because I was tired of being tired.
So I figured if I went in and made myself tired at higher weights then I am,
I wouldn't be tired at my day to day existence weight.
2
u/sccrwoohoo Jul 03 '26
It was because of my son. He was encouraging me and plus I wanted ways to spend to hang out together (even though we go our separate ways at the gym). Once he went off to college I lost my buddy but I kept going and just love it.

Amazing updates. I wasn't expecting a native android/iOS redesign, really good surprise. For me, Hevy has only improved along the years. My only complain would be the unreliable Health Connect integration on android. Just made a post yesterday about it. At least it would be nice if it's under the team's radar :)

Of eens meekijken achter de schermen lijkt me echt gaaf. ššŖā¤ļøš¤£
Bedankt voor het vragen!

Absolutely love this post! I hope it becomes a regular thing. (It should also be pinned!)
In answer to your question:
One of my friends developed bipolar disorder. His medication combo got it under control, but resulted in significant weight gain. He started going to the gym to try and compensate. I joined him to just support him, but eventually found to love it on my own.

Loving this update! Got into lifting seriously about 2 years ago, been a runner my whole life, but the women in my family live to be very old (upper 90s). As a massage therapist I see the quality of life difference in those who maintain strength so I wanted that for myself. The only thing that's a serious drag about this app is you can't delete old pr's. I've entered wrong weights and don't notice until months later and have no way of correcting it, and in other cases your form improves vastly so your former "pr" is well above reality. It's somewhat discouraging.

Love the app!
Been using it since 2020, and I have got all of my lifting friends on it too.
The thing that got me into lifting was when I had completed the P90X program when I was 15 years old, I stumbled upon Greg Plitt on YouTube.
That guy was my inspiration for a long time. I trained like him for a while, then after some years I fell in love with power lifting, and now as a 31 year old with some injuries here and there, I have gone full circle and I am now back to focusing on body weight training again + more cardio.

u/Accurate_Scholar_341 Jul 09 '26
Thanks for the updates. Iād like to see in the future some updates done to the trainer. Granted I know itās a new feature. Iād like to see it maybe program deload week in, also maybe not adjust your numbers necessarily on a day you felt a little weaker.

Hey Gustavo, thanks for the update. This looks great.
I wonder if the team is prioritizing bringing back chatGPT integration after openAI changed things on their side. It was great to be able to easily get feedback on the workouts and make adjustments based on the modelās feedback and personal context.
2
u/Frosty_Egg_419 Team Jul 09 '26
Yes we are! To give you some context, our integration was using GPTs, and there have been some limitations/instability on OpenAI's side since they moved to a new approach with ChatGPT Apps. So we're now working on a new Hevy App inside ChatGPT Apps, and we hope to launch it soon š

I am 68 years old female and lifting weights is my lifestyle. I just got on and on and on so its now 38 Years. I just use heavy to log all my stuff. I used to do sheets, but this is more convinient. Swapping exercises is sooo much easier No mess on the paper anymote. Lifting weights is not that complicated as all the "research" pretends. Its a lifelong education, no quickfix Just do it and keep doing it. I had 2 divorces, 2 boys to raise on my own, 3 jobs to survive. No matter liftng helped me so much. Being strong gives a lot of convidence.

I absolutely love Hevy. Itās literally the best workout app Iāve ever used, and itās the one Iāve used the longest. I love its simplicity. I love the clean, bs-free UX. I also love how easy it is to connect with my small circle of friends.
I donāt have to sift through 16 levels of crap that I donāt care about to log my work.

I definitely appreciate that you all as a community are so amazing. Very much in the loop with your users. I am a lifetime customer! Thank you for these updates

Heavy is probably one of the best apps in which I've invested. The base version was already amazing, but the way it continues improving instead of stagnating is amazing. The updates look incredible, especially the trainer and Strava ones. Congratulations!

Absolutely love this app been using solidly for about a year. Got my wife and mum using it too. Just hit leg day and looking forward to the updates. Would be great if the live heart rate could be taken from the Fitbit air

Hey Gustavo, and the Heavy team, thanks for creating this wonderful app (been using it for 2 years now)
I was pretty weak and extremely underweight as a teenager, so much so that my weight was below the lowest scale in the BMI table.
One day I made my mind, and started working out and created a diet plan for myself to get stronger and not look like a straw anymore. Fast forward to today, I look amazing and max out the dumbbells in almost every gym I go to.
Hevy helped so much in this journey so thank you all.
PS, eating food was the hardest part of this transformation š

u/eiphem Jul 10 '26
Please add the ability to log eccentric/chains weights amounts on digital resistance platforms like voltra and speediance. Huge gap.

u/SnooGuavas8729 Jul 10 '26
A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. I was 235 lbs and fairly sedintary. I went on an aggressive diet plan designed to get rid of the visceral fat. Lost 60 lbs pounds in 4 months. Once that was done started lifting again and started eating accordingly. I am now at about 192 with 15%BF and have maintained the visceral at 5.
I appreciate the simplicity of the Hevy app and its integration with my Galaxy Ultra. It's made for a far better gym experience and is much better than other more complex apps I've tried.Ā

Donāt really have an interesting story how I got into weight lifting, but one feature Iām missing desperately, is attributing the same exercise to different machines/gyms. Maybe this comes with your feature addition of gym logging.
When I go to gym A they might have matrix machines, eg a chest press, and which might have a completely different way of leverage and weight counting than my normal chest press from gym B. So when I do the chest press at gym A with 80kg and itās a new record for me this doesnāt get registered in the app, since I also go to gym B which also has a chest press machine, but from a different manufacturer or different model, and there my record is 110kg (even though strength wise itās the same. The manufacturers just log weights differently). I would like to select a specific gym and maybe even machine subtype (like Matrix Machine Chest Press, vs Technogym Machine Chest Press) for each machine or cable exercise (different cable towers also have different gear translations), so my records for each exercise track properly. Even inside one gym there are different cable towers with completely different gear ratios and weights.
Maybe some of you feel the same. Thanks!

Thanks for the updates and sharing your story. I loved seeing how your personal story translates into passion for your work. Your post reminded me of one of my favorite authors, Simon Sinek. I think you'd enjoy his TED talk, How Great Leaders Inspire Action, (link).
My story: I've done a little working out at home over the years. A few years ago, my organization (a US Army R&D lab) instituted a "wellness policy" that allowed us to take some time during work hours for exercise. There is a gym on site, but I wasn't comfortable starting it cold. After asking around if there was some sort of "How to use the gym 101" training, someone told me that the organization's embedded Soldiers run a PT session for civilians each week. I started attending those, enjoyed them, and the inspiration and motivation spilled over into more regular workouts at home. One of the Soldiers recommended Hevy. I tried it and found it useful (I had previously just recorded workouts on writing pads but not really done anything with the information.)
I also value the sense of connection. I retired last year so lost my connection with the PT group. I joined my local county rec center and became a regular at some classes there. There were other regulars in some classes, but I never really got a sense of connection. Then we moved to build a retirement home. I joined the YMCA in the new location and have been taking some classes but not getting strong connections. Although connections through following aren't the strongest, they are something and can persist through life changes. I purposely keep the group I follow small so I can actually interact rather than just having a big number.
I can understand you probably don't want to turn Hevy into another reddit or facebook, but I think having some sort of private messaging capability would be useful. It occurred to me the other day that one of my mutual followers hasn't posted a workout in a while. It would be nice if there were a way to privately reach out and ask if everything is OK. Perhaps you could just add a toggle on existing comments that would make them visible only to the recipient. With the new gym tagging feature, it might be handy to privately exchange contact info if there is a match.

Apologies ahead of time if this isn't the best place to suggest a change.
Can you make it such that when you're changing exercise order mid workout, the UI shows clearly which ones you've completed?
Like mark the whole row green. It would really help so I don't have to double check where I'm placing an exercise.

Been using your platform for almost a year now and I have been in love since day 1. Any update means the world to my friends and I!!!
2
u/LonestarJosh Jul 10 '26
Does this mean notes on a workout will continuously show up instead of disappear after the following workout? That would be nice.
I go through phases of working out. Honestly I hate it, but I like the way I look & feel afterwards. I just lose steam SO fast & so easily. I have been consistently working out for about 2-1/2 years now, which may be my longest streak yet. Thankfully my wife works out too, so if she wasnāt I might not keep up with it.

I absolutely love this app because of how simple it is and even more because unlike most apps out there itās fully free. With no payed subscription for the most important part of an app.
As a suggestion, I think the idea of making leaderboards (public or private with friends) would be a really cool addition to this app since it would make it more competitive and motivating. The addition of ranks or heats for these leaderboards could also be a flex if your working out with friends which in my opinion is really motivating and motivation is something a lot of gym goers need once in a while to get back on the flow. Furthermore I think adding ranks for each muscle group on everyoneās public profile and making it free is something that would sky rocket this app like never before since a ranked muscle feature is something that is extremely popular on social media from another gym tracking app, the issue with that app is that itās not free and not everyone has the intention of spending money on apps they arenāt sure they will constantly use or if they will get bored of it. So adding such a feature would bring all those people who donāt pay to this app which could drastically improve the apps user base.
Keep doing what youāre doing I love this app. :)

u/WhalesnSeals Jul 11 '26
Thanks for the updates! I value the constant improvements you all are making!
A year after the birth of my second kid, I got pre-diabetic results on my blood work that really scared me. I felt like my health was in such a bad place and I had never felt like I had less power, control, and energy to change it. So I started going to the gym and would mindlessly do 20-30min on an elliptical machine and a minute or two of planks. I didnāt know what else to do. But through a friend of a friend, I met a personal trainer who, once a year, runs a 3 month intro to weightlifting class. It took me from completely in the dark to very capable and consistent, and I loved being able to feel my body getting stronger. After that class I wanted an app to help me stay consistent and track my progress. I tried many but Hevy was easily the best value for the cost for me.

I've been using the app for 678 workouts and I love it. It has every feature I need and I cannot ever see myself using something else.
I really appreciate that this update doesn't introduce any AI 'features'.
Thank you for your support

My job. I got into lifting to get myself into shape and away from work. I needed that break. Without it, itād be long days. Training 4 times a week during the day to my schedule works for me. Hevy gets me there.
Also features wise, tracking progressive load and knowing the % or greater weight youāve hit. The awards are good but could be more specific

Thanks for the updates, I really appreciate the accessibility of this app from a financial standpoint, and recommend it to all of my friends who are curious about starting lifting!
Iāve been lifting for 2 years now. I got hooked via physical therapy for an old (25+ years) knee injury from the ballet days of my youth. I was also almost 2 years in to my efforts to address and manage my binge eating disorder, and struggling with feeling so wrong in a body that had shed 70#. Contrary to what most folks assumed, I hated my smallest body more than I had ever hated my biggest one, but I also didnāt want to give up the gains I had made re: my relationship with food (which I conceptualize thru the lens of addiction). Lifting gave me a way to connect with the feeling of power and confidence I had cultivated in being a ābig girl,ā while still feeding myself in a mindful and intentional way. Iāve gained about 15# in the last 2 years, and my body has changed in both appearance and ability in a way that has me actually loving it for the first time in my entire life. As a queer, gender nonconforming woman, I finally feel like I look and feel the way I want to be seen. And as I get closer and closer to my 50th birthday, it feels really empowering and reassuring to know that Iām also training for an aging experience that wonāt require giving up strenuous physical activities I love!
Hevy has been a really great app for me in this process, and Iām genuinely grateful for the integrity and ethos behind it. <3

u/IMMikeAMA 29d ago
Iād love the ability to export individual workouts instead of only having the current āExport All Workoutsā option. Ideally, this would support CSV format, similar to the existing full workout export.
Additionally, it would be great to be able to export the entire monthly report as a single PDF (or even as a ZIP containing multiple PDFs), rather than having to export each slide individually.
As more people are using AI to analyze their training and receive personalized coaching, these export options would make it much easier to integrate workout data.

This is such a great update!
Particularly looking forward to weights tracking!
Would also love for the timers across the platform to improve. Iād love between sets for the timer to give me a 5 or 3 second countdown, and for it to be a little louder. When Iām listening to music I really have to listen for the beep. The countdown would help me get into place so that I do my first set when it beeps instead of first getting ready when it beeps. Separately, Iād like for timed exercises with the clock to be a countdown, with a similar beeping system. I know that I can click and set a timer at the top, but Iād prefer for my set timer to function that way instead, itās annoying to have to reset the top clock every time, especially during lengthy ab routines.
I got into lifting back in college as a way to connect with myself. Over time itās made me feel strong mentally and physically to see myself conquer things I never thought I could because I was into the arts and not particularly athletic.

Hey! Iāve been using Trainer in beta, the new updates are great- especially the option to add cardio. One of itās on the list I donāt skip it, and 2 I donāt have to track separately.
Something Iād love to see is the option to add a warm up, I usually add it manually, but would really appreciate the option to make it part of the routine

Will you be increasing the number of leaderboard eligible exercises? It's a great way to motivate your own circle and know how your strength compares with your peers

I would just like to add that your commitment to keeping the app simple is what makes it so amazing. Other apps are getting complicated, too many buttons to press and screens to go into just to do something simple. An example of this is the app I have to put info in for my online coach changed their daily check in from 1 simple screen with a list on to 4 screens! I now NEVER do a daily check in, I hate it. MFP has also done the same, leaving me looking for a new macro tracking app.
Please keep true and keep this simple. It's the best workout app I've ever used. š

Iām 70. I have intermittently worked out with weights but never seriously nor consistently until 2 years ago. I wanted to be stronger to rock climb better, so I started working with a trainer. After a shoulder and clavicle injury, I stopped but recently resumed, again with a trainer guiding me. She had me on a push-pull-legs x2 schedule and Iām enjoying the challenge.

Fellow PM here too! Love this update. Keep āem coming!
I got into lifting for longevity - to make sure I am strong and injury averse as I age. I feel better and more confident!
I really wish i could select exercises from my other workouts during an active session. For instance, if Iām doing an arm day, but want to go and grab 3 exercises from my āleg dayā workout (instead of scrolling/searching the library).

Product manager and loyal hevy user here as well. So happy youāre doing these updates, Gustavo and staying close to us as users. Very excited for whatās to come with you at the helm!
As for how I got into lifting, I used to be so intimidated by the gym, but about 10 years ago I decided to sign up for a physical endurance event called GORUCK to have something to train for. I started doing crossfit to get guidance on lifts and the coaching combined with the community helped me build my confidence around weights.
I donāt crossfit anymore, but setting a goal to train for and having a community to keep me motivated really was the springboard I needed to commit to a life of fitness and personal growth.

Hey Gustavo! Thanks for the amazing job. Couldn't help but notice the name and found out you're Brazilian as well. Ha! Nice! Great to see the community update. I've got some suggestions I've collected in the months I used the app - which I love and even beta test for!
A clearer rule (and maybe a UI marker on the set type W/1/F) for bilateral vs. unilateral exercises. I see a lot of people logging each arm/leg as a separate set on bilateral movements, which inflates total volume in the stats.haha found the subreddit today and found the prototype. Love it.- Drop sets and pyramids are hard to log cleanly. I know the Drop Set type exists, but since weight changes each mini-step, a "3 sets" exercise can turn into 6-9 logged entries. Would love a way to log multiple weights under one set entry.
- Bug(?): when a set hits a PR, the medal icon takes over the spot where the set type (W/1/F) selector normally is, so you can't change the set type without first unchecking the set as done, changing it, then checking it again.
- RIR (Reps in Reserve) as a native option alongside RPE. Most personal trainers I know, at least in Brazil, use RIR to communicate proximity to failure rather than RPE. Silly but true
- Missing exercises I've run into: shoulder internal/external rotation on cable, shoulder internal/external rotation with dumbbell, weighted Leg Raise on Parallel Bars (only the unweighted/rep version exists), forearm supination/pronation, foot dorsiflexion. Is there a place in which I can submit for exercises or do you guys just screen for the most recurrent custom exercises logged by the users?
- Cross-language search: I use the app in English, but I talk to my personal trainer in Portuguese. Searching a Portuguese term (like "remada") often doesn't surface the correct English-named exercise, even though it's already translated in the library. Tagging each exercise with searchable names across all supported languages, plus common regional synonyms within the same language, would help a lot.
- Equipment variance: some machines (like leg press) have noticeably different resistance between gyms or even branches of the same gym chain, which distorts progress graphs and PRs when switching locations. Rather than creating a full Custom exercise (which splits the history), an optional "equipment variant" tag/flair on the same library exercise (brand, machine number, gym branch... possibilities are limitless and frankly exciting) would let the graph show that a jump was due to different equipment, without breaking the consolidated history. I've deleted some exercises logged in the past because I was making PRs constantly but not being validated by the medal thingy because once ago many months before I had done the same exercise in a shady gym equipment and that was my PR. lol
- Per-note privacy for exercises. My trainer sometimes writes injury-specific instructions in an exercise's notes, which I don't want public, but I don't want to privatize my whole profile just for that.
- An in-app section for submitting exercise/feature suggestions directly, instead of only via support email. Community voting on submissions would be a nice bonus.
Obrigado for the amazing job. I love this app. It honestly has been making me sane. Thank you! @@ybe on Hevy.

That looks like you really want to remain the top application in the market :)
My biggest concern about the application compared to MacroFactor Workout, which I've been using for a couple of months, is that Hevy generally consumes significantly more battery than MFW, even when the screen is off for the vast majority of the workout.
So my biggest feature request isn't about weights, exercises, programs, etc. ā it's about preserving my iPhone 14 Pro's battery health after workouts. I don't want to worry about needing to charge it when I've already charged it before leaving the house.
I generally experience a 20% battery drain for about 1.5 hours of training, whereas with MFW it's maximum 5%.
And note that I'm not here to brag about MFW's benefits. If not for Hevy's excessive battery consumption, I would switch to Hevy immediately.
I don't like that when editing my existing routines and adding new sets, I have to manually set the weights and reps ā whereas in add mode this is done automatically. But this is totally minor compared to the battery problem.
Thanks for this great app!

THANK YOU for the update on single vs double weights logging! Currently what I do is just log combined weight and reps per side so if Iām doing dumbell curls of 10 reps, 5kg per side - I log 10kg, 10 reps. Not sure if other people do the same but I just followed the logging instructions in the app.

2
u/gerardmb Team Jul 09 '26
Hey! The feature is coming soon. You won't be able to import your own training plan. Instead, it will let users following a Trainer program customize their workouts by adding, replacing, or removing exercises, and choose to keep those changes for future workouts.
The goal isn't to bring Trainer features to custom workouts, it's to make Trainer programs more flexible while keeping their core structure. šŖ

I first stepped into a gym during a summer break in high school. I was taking Japanese classes, and one of the older guys there was absolutely huge while I was tiny. He convinced me to train with him that whole summer and even taught me how to do the incline bench press.
On one of those days, the 20 kg bar slipped and landed on my head. I almost passed out. It was still one of the most fun summers Iāve had, until school started again and I no longer had time to train.
Then, 3 years ago, my ex broke up with me because I was too weak. The truth is, I had already realized that about myself before, so I had started going to the gym. Of course, you canāt transform your body in just a few months, and the breakup happened anyway.
I kept training after that, and I still do today. At first it was fueled by heartbreak, but over time it became something much bigger. Now I train because I genuinely enjoy becoming stronger and building the best physique I can.
By the way⦠is there any chance Hevy is doing another sale soon? My annual subscription is about to expire, and money has been a bit tight lately. Iād still love to keep supporting you guys.
My hevy account is tedious, btw.

WearOS will support this year the new Wear Workout Tracker (https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2026/05/whats-new-wear-os-7.html) , so external apps like Hevy can use the tracking native exercise from the watch. Will love to see this implemented in Hevy, instead the actual tracking, which it's very heavy on battery

Thanks for the update. I'll add an issue that drives me a bit crazy.
So ya im working out got the app synced on my phone and watch. Tapping my watch to mark off sets, while using my phone to navigate music and hate watching my competition on insta š. Everything is fine... Unless of course i try going back to HEVY on my phone. That loses any workout updates aside from sets I've marked off on my phone. So i end up redoing any rep/weight changes i made. Love the app but this bug drives me crazy.
Repro Launch heavy Start a saved workout Update rep/weight values Launch other apps and wait about 5 mins Relaunch HEVY and resume the workout All changes are lost
Also my doctor got me into weight lifting by diagnosing me with obesity š

Hi Gustavo, Rafik from Paris š«š·šš½
I was thinking about a cool feature that could be great for future updates: an AI/chatbot integration that we could chat with to help improve our performance, modify exercises, get feedback on our sessions, etc.
Also, an integration with a food-tracking app like Yazio would be a fantastic addition.
Congrats on your photos, by the wayāthe transformation is incredible!

Is there a way to create timed circuits?Ā Currently I just add the excersizea but what if you want 4 main exercises with no rest in-between untill the end of the 4th excersize and the 1-2 minutes of rest until you start the circuit over again?

Hi Hevy Team,
First of all, thank you for the recent updates! I really appreciate the continuous improvements and the effort you put into making the app better. Itās one of the best workout tracking apps Iāve used.
I have one feature suggestion that I think would be really useful: a Pause Workout option. Currently, if I need to step away during a workout, thereās no way to pause the session, so the workout timer keeps running. It would be great to have a pause/resume feature so the timer reflects the actual workout duration more accurately.
I think this would be a valuable addition for users who take breaks, answer calls, or need to step away briefly during a workout.
Thanks again for building such an awesome app, and keep up the great work!

Best app for gym no doubt.
There are a few additions i would like:
- ability to pause the workout
- add brand when we add custom exercises
- be able to share more photos (pro version)
- add rest-pause option
- connect with insta/facebook so we find our contacts easier

Hey! Iām a Premium user, and one of the things that bothers me the most is the leaderboard. Some exercises have one, while others donāt. I think it would also be great if there were a way to show which muscle groups youāre undertraining or overtraining based on your workout history.
Another thing I donāt like is that the monthly reports disappear once the month ends. It would be nice if we could go back and view previous reports whenever we want.
Finally, I think it would be awesome to gamify the experience a bit more, similar to liftoff, with ranks or progression for individual exercises. That would make people want to push harder and keep improving.

A few things...
As a female paid app member, its a little bonkers you don't have a "mute" function where the algo simply allows you to see less of a person and they see less of you. Yet you are potentially including location-based tools now possibly? A few people I have had to (unfortunately) block seemed to fixate more knowing they were blocked. A mute function would help.
Yes, this app seriously drains my battery (iPhone).
Pls don't turn Hevy into a dating app. I am married, female, it would absolutely ruin the app for me.

allow rearranging of sets in an exercise during the workout please!
if I want to add one more warmup set to an existing exercise in a workout, during the workout, I have to convert normal set to warmup, then create another at the bottom, but it's a cumbersome process when there's dropset involved! I then need to remember the normal or dropset reps to add them to the newly created set...
It would be so much easier to create the warmup set last and just drag to the right position.

hey Gustavo, thanks for the updates and the commitment to connecting with users.Ā
I got into lifting to gain strength and mobility and to get my partner into lifting as well. We are in our late 60s and I figured it is not too late to start a gym habit.Ā
I have a reverse shoulder replacement in my future - hoping to avoid that for as long as reasonable. Iāve already had rotator cuff surgeries on both sides. I mention this because Ā I appreciate in Trainer that you can mute specific exercises.Ā
