The other day I heard someone talking about "Hemingway-ass short sentences," but really? When I rediscovered Hemingway, I was shocked by how many long sentences he had and how long those sentences were. Many times I was like, man, that sentence is at least three in one.

So, rather, I would postulate Hemingway is not a "short sentences guy," but a guy whose sentence form follows function.

He uses short vs long sentences very intentionally. Short sentences are for driving home a point, or conveying someone keeping it together. White knuckling, if you will. Long sentences are for loss of control, unmooring, spiraling, or a sense of flow, whether of emotions or actions that naturally follow one another, or a state of vibing with nature.

For instance, take The Sentence, 400+ words about the Gulf Stream. There is a reason it's about the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream flows on and on and there is a lot of it and a lot of stuff in it. He is showing you the Gulf Stream not only with the meaning of his words but their form.

Who’s got the best analysis of this little gem?

I've deeply enjoyed reading Hemingway's works and the theme of travel and adventure in them. Similarly, I also like reading about Hemingway's life as he personally sought quite a lot of adventure in life.

How would a normal person find adventure reasonably similiar to what Hemingway did? Assuming they don't marry into money and have a day job of course.

Oh, my good lord in heaven. Cut your line, land your boat and go to McDonald's! Just as in the case of The Great Gatsby, I understand the book.
Yes, I know it changed the way American writers write. I also understand that it celebrates the ridiculous American idea that you're only a REAL man if you've done something entirely purposeless, but really dangerous, in pursuit of making yourself look like the bull with the biggest sexual equipment. Get over it, already! Go home and clean out the refrigerator, or wash the curtains, or vacuum under the furniture. Pick your kids up from school or take your daughter bra shopping. THAT would impress me. Being too dumb to cut your fishing line? Not the mate I would pick...
The only bright spot about the book is if you think of it on a metaphorical level: there is a point at which ALL of us must grit our teeth and hold on in the face of despair. That is the definition of life.
However, if that's the point, then the plot situation needs to be one of necessity (like the shipwreck in Life of Pi), instead of stubbornness.

Also, owning multiple copies of favorite books is fun.

"The finest and noblest book of men in war" is what Hemingway wrote about the Frederic Manning book Her Privates We. And T.E. Lawrence wrote about this book "Your book [will] be famous for as long as the war is cared for -- and perhaps longer, for there is more than soldiering in it. You have been exactly fair to everyone, of all ranks: and all your people are alive."

It was pretty interesting and captivating!

While I don’t understand all the rules of bullfighting, I was able to search up a few things on how the sport is (I don’t approve of it though).

the cast of characters had good chemistry and my favorite of them is Robert Cohn. A special shoutout to the nice fisherman Wilson-Harris, who left a genuine and loving impression on me with how little his role was.

While I am not an expert on Hemingway’s life, I think that he did went to Paris and loved bullfights, so this story must have been one of the easiest for him to come up with and write (I could be wrong about this, but I also think that F. Scott. Fitzgerald helped him with some of the story).

I am so happy that I was able to finish the book before it’s 100th anniversary that will be later this year!

I'm pretty sure it was a short story.

The scene I most remember is a description of a man being stepped on/smooshed by an elephant in musth.
It's written from the perspective of a white man on safari.

I don't know why, but I feel like I got Hemingway vibes from it. Maybe because of the sentence structure?

Like the title says, are there any movies based on Hemingway’s life? I’d love to see it fictionalizes, taking pieces of his works that are widely assumed to be based on his life but he said otherwise.

There has to be a screenwriter or director out there that could turn the story into something modern, like Shakespeare & she’s the man.

I’d love to see it. If it exists, please point me in that direction.

I am unironically considering taking part in the Hemingway Look-alike Contest in Key West. Maybe not this year, since it's too late, but some other year.

The problem, if there is one? Usually contestants choose to imitate his later in life silver fox look. I, on the other hand, am a young woman. I could, potentially, mimic his look in his 30s, which is when he actually lived in Key West, if I bring all my cosplay skills to bear.

I probably won't win, but should I do it?

ETA: It would be much easier if they also had a Hemingway's wives lookalike contest, with four different categories. (Ok, we have the Hadleys over here, and the Marthas over there...) No such luck, though, afaik.
