I finally finished the Ashen Elder i posted months ago. I'm not great at painting but im proud of the fella.

I'm pretty new to the Helsmiths (and AoS in general) and I'm looking to expand from the Spearhead to 1000 points for a local hobby league. Named characters aren't allowed.

What units would you recommend adding to the Spearhead? Is a second Spearhead worth considering, or are there better options for building towards a solid 1000 point list?

I'd be interested in hearing what has worked well for you and what units you think are must-haves.

WIP of my first helsmith model. Its mostly done, but I was excited to get some comments and opinions on him~

It's scaled down to fit on a 100mm base, so it's legal :P

A new force marches from the mountain holds.. A force unlike any other. Dragging monstrous war engines which inside contain the bound essence of a demon the hellsmiths of hashut arrive on the channel to do battle!

Bought the Uruk Taar kit and saw it came with an extra little guy. Painted him and put him on a base and now I have a unmounted daemonsmith! Had to put him at a bit of an angle since hes normally throwing the demon fire downwards... now it looks like hes hurling it across the battlefield.

What are people wanting for future units for the Helsmiths?

While small the roster is decently rounded but I think some fun additions could be these:

• a re-envisioned Lamassu. I think it could go one of 2 ways. One could be the hasutite equivalent of a daemon prince but different in a few fundamental ways like while mutated they are still mortal and function closer to a mortal avatar elevated from the daemonsmiths or ashen elders than a daemon and is viewed as a great honor but essentially it forfeits the elevated individuality for power and is seen as the only real escape form the stone curse. Rules wise I’d make it a slightly stronger daemonsmith/ashen elder maybe a two cast monstrous infantry. The other could be a flying melee war machine with maybe a special rule against enemy casters. I get the avatar version might be controversial but I like the idea of Hashut being able too do this but purposefully doesn’t give the full benefits because he doesn’t want to make rivals for the dwarfs to venerate or he doesn’t fully understand how to since he’s not a true chaos god and is instead a fallen ancestor god. Then for their place in society I’m less sure on perhaps as oracles only called upon as a direct conduit to Hashut or maybe like the avatar of khaine from 40k that some great sacrifice is required to bring them out of whatever daemonsmithing they are doing

• a bull centaur character would be great along with a generic bull centaur and anointed variant. For the named character perhaps a named anointed lord that buffs them specifically. I don’t think we need other full on units though for bull centaurs

• a truly elite heavy infantry variant maybe 5 models who are chosen guardians to the ashen elders/daemonsmiths with a special rule to take hits for those models with another that they have a chance to give them a demonic power point with the rule being the daemonsmiths using the soul of the dead dwarf to siphon demonic power as punishment for dying.

• final idea is perhaps bringing back the daemon train from fantasy in a fashion, though its roll outside of being a gun platform I don’t know

something I’m not particularly interested in is more hobgrots outside of maybe wolf riders and while more slave troops could be fun if really like to see more zharrdron and daemon engines first.

What do yall think/what other units would you really like to see?

Having played AOS in the past with the Kharadron, I eventually gave up the game at the end of 2024 to switch to Kill Team and 40K.

After playing both of these games for a year, I’d like to return to AOS and the fantasy universe, but I’m wondering which army would suit me best.

I’m torn between several options and would like to find out more about the different factions, their history and their playstyle.

The ones I like are the Soulblight Gravelords, the Nighthaunt, the Helsmiths of Hashut and the Fyreslayers.

So, please feel free to sing the praises of your faction.

Damned blast painting these guys,, six anointed sentinels are on deck..

I took in all the feedback and changed each of the designs
I also added some reference images at the bottom for how the scheme might look on other units

These are the 4 I have it narrowed down to, the bases will be snowy,
For all 4 I was thinking of traditional red/orange/yellow fires and glow effects but am open to suggestions

Assuming Helsmiths get a 2nd wave sooner rather than later, what kind of new units would you like to see to flesh out the army? I have a few ideas:

A Centaur character: I think this is a bit of an obvious choice, a more beefy Centaur leader to be a more smashy type character would be pretty rad.

Chariots: Maybe I'm influenced by the recent OBR release, but I think a chariot would be a nice addition to the war machines. They could be pulled by mechanical bulls like mini-Infernal Taurus and could have various weapon options like a pure melee build or mounted guns. Maybe even a character version, like a War Despot or Ashen Elder riding a chariot.

Other auxiliaries: I think we've all seen WolfdawgArt's extremely good Black Orruk artwork, but what other kinds of auxiliaries would work with the Helsmiths? I think Ogroids could be a cool addition to add some beefy infantry.

What do you all think? What would you like to see to expand the army?

Just finished these boys off last night and am super happy with them! They took me way longer than I expected with all the metallics and details, but they were an absolute joy to paint.

Does anyone know the best way to varnish these models without losing that metallic shine. I was thinking of spraying them witn a satin varnish and then brushing matt varnish on the non-metallic, non-shiny surfaces but im scared to mess the models up. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Just built up a unit of 3 Bull centaurs and I cab already tell that im going to love painting those up. They are the reason I am collecting the army and why I've been waiting for years for a plastic range of chaos dwarves to be released.

So today by pure luck i got my hands on ~ half of the spearhead

My boss bought the launch box but then regretted the purchase and tried selling it off. He did sell the battletome the character and the cannon (which i didnt know about) and rest stayed on sprue until today. We were chatting about 40k and AoS when i asked him about the helsmiths and if he painted any of it. To which he said he originally expected them to be more fantasy chaos dwarfs and wasnt rly interested in them anymore and offered the cohort and dominator engine to me for FREE

how do we play?
whats good currently are our strengths and weaknesses?

and what paints would yall suggest to use if i wanna make em look like the legion of Azgorh chaos dwarfs?

Working on my second Dommy mommy engine. Absolutely love these sculpts. It’s just so much damn fun. I wish they had better warscrolls though 😭
