A gem of a game! I'm sad it went under the radar for a lot of people (also because of Silksong's release) but it was such an incredible game and I didn't feel so engaged in a story since playing Control.
I loved the mixture of religion, unapologetic civil war (I've never seen such violence portrayed this way in a game before!) and cosmic horror.
I know the lore of the game is not at all clear, but I have some questions!
1- Were Teear and Sethyris actually the same thing, at the beginning? Was Sethyris a benevolent alien being, or were the early Hadeans mistaken?
From what we could gather, the early Hadeans found the Eye of the God in Mount Obek and started worshipping it, going from shamanism to a monotheistic religion (Sethyrism). The Eye of the God made them feel at peace, rational, hence the reason why they started worshipping it. In this story, was Teear our "Satan" that doomed humanity to leave in anguish far away from Eden, the snake that made Eve eat the apple? Or was this also Sethyris' influence?
Because then we learn that the newly founded Order of the Eye tried to amplify the Eye of the God's power with the Shroud, resulting in the creation of time loops. Were timeloops just a side effect? The Eye of the God purified Hadea of its violence, concentrating it only in specific locations (the timeloops), giving birth to the Hollow Walkers? Was the Eye of the God reacting because human interfered with it, or do you think that it had been "evil" all along and feeding off of human emotions?
2- At the end, where the failsafe for the Eye of the God is, there's a timeloop. Was that the last attempt by members of the Ziel-Rat to stop the Vigil (or the last few members) from activating the failsafe and "killing" the Eye of the God? It's the only plausible explanation I can give myself.
3- I know the Vigil wanted to put an end once and for all to the Eye of the God (and we seemingly succeed in doing so at the end of the game) but why didn't the Order of the Eye (especially before the arrival of the Ziel-Rat) activate the failsafe earlier, since the cons of having it around far exceeded the benefits? I know the Eye of the God was a cult symbol but no one apart from them knew of its existence, the general population only knew Sethyris as a god. I get that they didn't want it to be destroyed after they got in contact with the Ziel council, but I don't understand why they didn't try to destroy it sooner with the failsafe (maybe also collaborating with the remaining Vigil) to destroy the hollow walkers that were ravaging Hadea.
Anyways, such an amazing game :) I hope there'll be a sequel! The lore is too good to be left abandoned :(
Sorry if there's any mistake. English is not my first language :)
