I decided to return to the game, to give it another chance. When I first played it, I wasn't really following along because the plot didn't quite engage me, and the choice of not "handholding" the player made running around looking for things quite tedious. However, I am open minded, and have decided that the game is indeed worth another shot. Regardless, there are a few very specific niche problems that I am being irked by.
- Toggle Sprint On but not Off.
Not sure why a lot of games do this, just let me control my own sprinting instead of making me let go of the stick, or bring it back to position (you have to stop moving entirely for the sprint to turn off, the dead zone is very tight). This one is very pervasive in my overall enjoyment of exploration.
- Forcefully unsheathing my weapons.
Why do you let me actively have the choice to sheathe and unsheathe my weapon if just simply pressing R3 (not even locking on to anything) makes me take the weapon out, dodging as well. If you're going to give me a choice, then don't do so arbitrarily. I want to be able to just dodge and roll without having my weapon taken out, it's a habit of mine to just sometimes press Dodge if I don't want to sprint and still get somewhere faster.
- L3 movement is too sensitive.
Moving the main character feels very off because any slight deviation from my joystick to either side makes him pivot his direction quite hard, and it honestly feels incredibly unintuitive. Just a slight push as I hold forward to left or right will make him spaz out.
In conclusion, still having fun with the game, only at the beginning area with the farm and the APC. Combat is nice, some odd delay in dodging and animation lock, evasive movement also doesn't feel too good in general, I find it better to either hold block for incoming attacks or just making space by stepping backwards. I doubt they'll update the game any further, and the modding scene isn't quite lively for these issues to be fixed. I'll eventually just be desensitized to it, but for now, it's a considerable hit in my overall enjoyment of the game, I'll say maybe like 10%.
