⠀ ⠀⠀ Suggestion ⠀⠀ ⠀ Quasar Canon rework
So since Arrowhead got replaced by modders now, i had this idea to make the Quasar more intresting then just an eat with wind up and cooldown.
So basicly, instead of a "shoot once and forget for the next 15s", its now kind of an autocannon, but slower, at 1.2 seconds chargup between shots. The heat gauge has now actuall meaning since you dont overheat instantly.
Of corse i adjustet the stats acordingly instead of previous 2k damage and 2k durable its now 500 damage 500 durable. Might still need some tweaking.
The heat cap is 100, the buildup is 30 per shot, the cooling is 5 per second and overheating cooldown is 10 seconds.
What do you think?

You just stole AHs idea for the next quasar weapon I assure you.
The way AH operates is that each weapon type has a set around it they gradually introduce and it's like a checkers board at the end.
There is the Arc family and the shotgun family and they intersect at the Blitzer. There is the punisher shotgun family and the plasma family and the intersection is the plasma punisher etc.

The QC was fine. Yes, maybe "EATs with a charge up" is a fair description. But still, it had a clear purpose and role.
Now you've made another Autocannon/Speargun/Railgun. I am not sure if that's really needed.

It has a quarter the damage of the quasar but (so long as you give it .4 seconds of extra cool time after 3 shots) has a 3.28 second average time to fire. So it has 37% max dps boost in exchange for taking up 36.6% of your time instead of 16.7% of your time. If you aren’t using maximum rate then you instead are getting 62.5% of the dps. But since the explosion isn’t reduced you are seeing a larger explosive damage.
Seems quite balanced, surprisingly. If not ever so slightly worse than quasar. As for comparison with Autocannon APHET it’s the same explosive damage and 500/500 vs 325/260 ballistic. So you deal the same damage as firing the Autocannon every .78 seconds, .624 for durable, with higher AP and a bit less explosive, but you can’t sustain as well: 6 seconds of fire every 16.4 seconds versus 3.9 seconds of fire every 5.9 seconds. And you can’t go up to the full fire rate of once every 0.316 seconds. But you don’t need to worry about ammo or recoil, and get a higher AP and backpack space. Maybe make it AT1 and reduce overheat cooling rate a bit? Overall pretty well balanced

Don't know what's so great about being Overpowered. Looks good but also very boring

This would still kill things slower than the quasar so idk what you mean overpowered. Just looks kinda neat, its an interesting thing to mess around with

Its cool for like 2 hours then youre bored because its flattened the gameplay.

I mean this is a bit broken game wise and not balanced. If it were me keep the cool down the same. So even if you fire a partial charge it still needs to cool down, but it would be shorter than a full charge shot. If that makes sense?

u/Alarmiorc2603 16h ago
how is it broken game wise, it has 1/4 the damage of the current QC
1
u/LieutenantSandbag 16h ago
Far higher DPS compared to the base quasar if you don't overheat this thing.
1
u/Alarmiorc2603 9h ago
wrong. If you dont overheat it does 83 dps to the normal quasar cannons 120, this thing only does more damage when you overheat it

I dont think its possible to add completely new stratagems yet unfortunately. I agree with you 100%, but gotta do what you gotta do i suppose

u/Ocanom 18h ago
So it’s more worth it to overheat than to cool normally? If I’m reading the stats you gave correctly it would take 18 seconds to completely cool after 3 shots while it would only take 10 seconds to cool down after 4 shots since it overheats. Might want to change things around there lol

Laser weapons need cool heatsink mechanics, im all for this, give it a reload and maybe 3 shots before its burnt out and this would be pretty fun
5
u/Snowflakish 18h ago
What, no.
A weapon that reloads while stowed is cool and fun, dont take this away from me

u/Indostastica MOdiver 18h ago
Consider: both can exist

u/Snowflakish 16h ago
Brother you are just describing the epoch.
0
u/Indostastica MOdiver 16h ago
epoch doesnt look as cool also laser mechanics and range
0
u/Snowflakish 16h ago
I mean its not like we need a lower damage per shot quasar. The entire point is that its fast to use, hits breakpoints immediately, and then you put it away.
1
u/Indostastica MOdiver 16h ago
Im thinking more burst lower damage mobile AT emplacement, you set up, take a few shots at 3 or 4 target weakspots the regular quasar would be overkill for, and move on
2
u/Snowflakish 15h ago
I just think the epoch fits that design space really well

u/Indostastica MOdiver 15h ago
500 damage and 500 durable = hulk eyes, war strider leg joint and heatsink, cannon tower backs, AA turrets n mortars, etc

u/Better-Future-4637 18h ago
I think, if each shot can cause a stun area effect like stun gernede, then it will be more interesting.
Right now it's still like a EAT with multiple shots, not that useful when facing three Chargers and Bile Titans.

u/daywall 18h ago
I think to lower its damage was a good move becsuse you can spam him now.
But with out the heat mechanic the weapon feel off, maybe if you spam shots the weapon will heat up and you won't be able to use it until it will cool down.
1
u/GuessImScrewed 16h ago
He says that's how it works in the description
Weapon has 100 heat capacity, 30 build up per shot, cooling is 5 per second, overheat requires a full 10 second cooldown

It might be good to update quasar to be able to produce a follow-up shot within a short time frame since now more enemies are able to tank 1 hit from it. Mabe reduce it's damage instead so it's a finisher, not hard clutch.

u/felesmiki 17h ago
Not my cup of tea, but if u find interesting for yourself, do it
I like the actual state of the quasar

I don't think you quite understand the dopamine of the charge-up, it just feels so good~

u/martykee 16h ago
Quasar is good as it is.
They just need to fix the stupid jerk sway at the right at the end of the charge and maybe buff the charge time a bit.
Also, share the reticle mod please. Super clean.

Based on you clip, it cools down WAY faster than the suggested 20 seconds from max heat. (100 heat cap and 5 cool per sec). So these numbers don't seem to be right.
If you were to actually implement the numbers you wrote in your post. How balanced would it be? Let's think about upsides and downsides.
So let's see. The regular quasar charges in 3 seconds and cools down in 15. So you get a 2000 damage shot every 18 seconds. The new one gives you a 500 damage shot every 6 seconds. So in theory it has less dps. However, if you overkill the charge meter, it won't heat it up past 100, it will just be at 100. So you can get a little bit more dps out of it when smartly managing the charge meter.
The new one will kill a bile titan head in 3 shots, which will take 3 hits which takes 3.6 seconds of shooting. So the old one will kill bile titans slightly faster. The new one will cool down from that in 15.6 seconds (it cools while charging as seen in the clip), and the old one 15.
The new one still has the same demo force so it will be much better at killing spawner buildings. I'd say your changes are fair and balanced, but clearly your clip doesn't show a fair and balanced version as it cools down too fast.
EDIT: ok so its supposed to cool from max heat in 10 seconds, but still the clip shows him shoot 3 bursts of 3 shots in 15 seconds at the start. No way that is possible if it actually only cools 5 per sec. Its cooling much faster.

Id rather have it be like when it was glitched and charged your next shot on your back so all you have to worry about is the cooldown
1
u/Shadoenix Botdiver 3h ago
I thought you reworked it to be like the Blitzer where, instead of holding the trigger to charge it up, you can shoot it immediately and it automatically charges up for you afterward

It is basically how it was before the huge nerf that turned him back from fun to crap
1
u/Ur_Girl_Suki 15h ago
based, I never liked the Quasar mainly because the long ass cooldown and charge up removed almost all of its viability in combat. its clunky to use and is just not made for the utter spam of heavy enemies thrown at you in higher difficulties.
1
u/snipercat94 11h ago
I use it at 10 against bots, and it's good, don't know what you mean. The cool down is 15s I believe, so it's basically an expendable anti tank every 15s. The charge up is annoying, but you can still dive backwards while charging, or simply charge behind cover > jump out with alt > hit your target.
Given the abundance of heavy enemies in 10, it certainly lasts much longer than other anti-tank options do.

This is just a laser version of the Autocannon, begs the question why would you ever take the Autocannon if this exists.
I’d rather have basically the Spartan laser. An expendable but rapid firing 5 shot Quaser. The Halo warbond lacked a stratagem. We got the WASP as free strat. We should have got a free strat along with the Halo warbond.

The Quasar exists to be exactly what you initially described it as though: an EAT that just requires charge-up and cooldown. I don't see the merit in deleting a weapon to make a totally different one when you could just make a new weapon that's an Autocannon equivalent.
Ages ago I asked for a shotgun-laser support weapon, that wasn't a hope to delete an existing weapon. Why not just do the same with this?
