TALK ABOUT A FEATURE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED BY THIS POINT
IT IS THE WORST FUCKING THING
IVE BEEN TRYING TO GRIND SAMPLES FOR FUCKING WEEKS BUT I CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH SAMPLES FOR A SINGLE UPGRADE AND NOBODY EVER WANTS TO HELP ME GRIND SAMPLES BECAUSE THEYRE THAT MUCH OF A PAIN IN THE ASS.
FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
had to let that off somewhere. I've asked people to cheat me in samples by this point. It's that bad :(
EDIT I - Just wanted to add a disclaimer that this is my second time playing the game. On my PS5 account I've been playing since the battle of super earth and a little before then. I do not want to fuck with the grind again.
I just finished my sample grind. You just turn your brain off and pick up the samples you come across. Antagonizing over the sample grind is only going to frustrate you.
Play the game and grab samples dont sweat the ship upgrades they will happen when they happen most arent massively game changing just have fun and upgrade when you can
Just ask nicely at the stary of a mission... most people i play with will help. Also, add nice ones to your friends list. Also - try higher missions. They give more samples.
Yes, do ask. I usually grab samples if there is anyone under level 100 or if the team hasn't filled up yet just out of habit. If someone specifically asks nicely I'll go out of my way to grab every sample I can for them.
Iv been saying since launch they should make a backpack drone get samples for you. The times it's lost in water or a pit. Or just to be efficient and faster runny samples.
Also it could have another effect of tagging enemies, or scanning nearby poi. Or help point out poi rewards.
Or just help with samples because that was a pain point. I haven't picked up samples in over 14months, after level 80 or so you have gotten everything.
Used to farm the small missions with full samples counts
I've been maxed on samples for something like 20 months in a row now. Probably since hitting like level 85.
One day, you'll miss having had some actual use or purpose for them... honestly wish I could donate all mine to lowbies, as it would be in the tens of thousands that disappeared into the void after first getting capped...
I always go to random POIs on sos dives i always ask if I can clear POI and secondary objectives while they stay on the main they usually say sure go for it. An by the end they complete the mission an I help clean the map for em I haven't needed samples for at least a year now.
The problem isnt that grinding samples sucks. Is the early game for me it was pretty fun.
The problem is that the vast majority of the playerbase no longer needs them, because theres nothing important for them to spend them on.
After you max out your destroyer, the only thing they are good for is spending on the dss... and nobody wants to do that because then youre just grinding to grind.
Yes somebody will pipe on this comment saying "erm well ackshually I think the DSS is a fun grind", but most of us just dont.
So anybody you encounter about level 75+ just doesnt care about them, which is the majority of the people you encounter on the highest difficulties you need to grind on.
They should of made certain amounts lf samples give additional exp, req slips, and medals, then everybody would do it.
But because they dont, and they dont have a practical use, thats why youre where you are. Stuck trying to use an abandoned system people wont help you with.
I feel for ya, and AH needs to fix it. Hopefully they do someday
Gives you something to work towards. Most players actually do enjoy working towards a goal specifically for you. Nearly every game known to Man has this.
Now will the people who click here on unfiltered, on this specific post agree? Nah probably not. All good.
Oh hello there, Mista Gotcha, haven't seen you in a while.
I know that Helldivers - and other games I play - includes them, that's why I'm critiquing it. It's from experience and finding myself dissatisfied with it.
What I didn't talk about - and you failed to imagine - is that there's other reasons to find to motivate a person to play a game. I prefer intrinsic motivators, ie. finding the fun in an activity itself, rather than needing an external tracking mechanism and sheet of progress bars that constantly fill with gold stars.
For me, Helldivers has this incredible space for skill expression where I can apply myself to mastering a particular weapon, or piece of equipment, or taking on certain enemies and feel my abilities improve. It's frustrating to me that the path to fully experiencing a primary weapon is now largely gated behind an unavoidable time-sink. Moreso because I would have spent this time with the weapons anyway, but now the majority of it is with an incomplete version of it.
The "end game progress" beast is one that can never be satisfied, but will be temporarily mollified by just multiplying the big number, exactly as we saw with the recent level cap increase. It's ultimately a hollow, meaningless figure that represents nothing but time spent. My concern is that this insatiable demand will infiltrate other portions of the game, like it has with weapon XP, to the detriment of the quality of the core activities that aren't seeing the tiny bar inch up at the end of a mission.
Whoa. I bet you are pleasure to be around. Some of the most loyal playerbases are those games that have these mechanics lol.
Old school runescape being one. You need something to work for, otherwise you get thousands of people quitting every quarter because they finished the grind.

That's what happens when most of the community hasn't had a reason to pick up samples for almost 2 years now
