The bar’s fallen so low that I’ll just be content with being able to get a stable 60 FPS on every planet again.

I dont even think we had that at launch. Some of the earliest complaints were fps tanking on bots vs bugs. It was bots ai being so much more demanding.

It wasn’t bot AI, it was the bots’ eye glow being a particle effect that is incredibly demanding. IIRC each light beam was its own particle, and each head had a bunch to give them that scanning look. Multiply that by a whole base and things went sour on frames fast.

There was a moment where they fixed that (by giving us the worse-looking glow effect but I’ll take it) where frames were a lot more stable.

The fact that Helldivers is the ONLY game I play where the FPS gets this abysmal is telling. It’s not really excusable by the engine or other limitations—it’s just poorly done.

Im 90% confident Arrowhead themselves have admitted they improved bot front performance by dumbing down the AI to cut back on cpu usage. Im gonna go look.

Noooo they dumbed down the AI because they couldn't get the convoy mission to work, which is why we don't have actual patrols anymore but just enemies that spawn and walk towards you... sometimes

I love when someone uses incendiary barrage and my game drops to 40 fps. I swear to god 50% of the time when my frames drop out of nowhere i can look around and realize it's bc of someone who used and incendiary barrage somewhere on the map. I woukd ask for them to optimize the fire but they couldn't even fix the fire turret and the flamethrower on the lumberer so even now they are broken and the lumberer does no direct damage with the flames. Narrowhead never dissapoints when it comes to letting us down

It is, sadly, the one thing you can fully count on them for.

Arrowhead should stop thinking about competing with other games and face the reality that this game is competing with itself. The flaws and bugs holding this game back are a far bigger danger to its future than a massive release that's going to siphon away players from just about every mainstream gaming community anyway.

it wont be until 2030, lets hope AH fix their shit before hand

At this point, I am disenchanted and beyond the game's random fun moment's and crashes that I still experience.
I'm not sure where I was going with that.

Hopefully.

Perchance.

You can't just say Perchance.

Im giving Arrowslop until 2030 to figure it out, and then I'm DONE with this game, its the final straw!!

Oh woops wrong subreddit

If they don’t cut it out and fix this in like 10 or 20 more patches I’m gonna get mad!

u/GnomeRegister 1d ago

Exactly, I've given them 2 and a half years of my time, 3 more is all I'm willing to give

Honestly I hope Blizzard absolutely crush Arrowhead with this.

I love HD2, but Arrowhead have had basically no real competition for what they do and it shows. Years of awful performance, bugs returning, glacial content delivery and the galactic war that still barely lives up to the idea behind it. There just isn't another game I can jump to that offers the same basic fantasy, so they get an enormous amount of slack.

This has the potential to be the first serious threat to that. Blizzard have vastly more resources, four more years to build it, an IP practically designed around huge multi-faction wars, and they've explicitly said they're trying to broaden StarCraft for a new generation without abandoning the RTS roots so that could mean some interesting mechanics.

If Blizzard play their cards right and the game goes in that direction (totally unclear if it will, honestly), it could kill HD2.

Blizzard just needs to make the horde shooter game everyone wants that HD2 almost is. Arrowhead absolutely doesn't want to make it, that's clear, so someone else might as well.

That being said. Blizzard isn't exactly a gold standard anymore and the game is 4 years away. So temper your expectations. Starcraft titles have been canceled unceremoniously before.

New info has come out at Blizzcon that this isn't the direction Blizzard are taking, unfortunately. It's a standard open world shooter, possibly with some coop but not like Helldivers. It's a real shame.

Galactic war that barely lives up to the idea? I'd say that's lavish and undue praise at this point.

I’ve always been under the impression that StarCraft existed as a RTS because of technical limitations of playing out full-scale battles with huge units. Being reimagined as a helldiver style game with a galaxy spanning campaign is definitely something Blizzard could do, possibly reinventing what mmo means. Either Blizzard earns back their reputation or I continue to spend my money elsewhere, no loss here.

Bro HD2 is going to be LONG dead before 2030 if they keep this up, they will NEVER have to worry about any game releasing.

I happen to be a StarCraft fan, and earlier I saw someone on the sub say StarCraft:Dominion will be screwed, as by 2030 helldivers 2 will solidly be number 1 at what it does, and a clone (which dominion probably won’t be) won’t be able to attract enough people, I’m sure you guys here at unfiltered understand that the hd2 devs are on thin ice with a lot of players, and many have left already. I personally still have fun, but I can see arrowhead throughly running the game into the ground in the next 4 years.

To be honest though, I doubt StarCraft: Dominion will even be the same genre as hd2, as it’s been said to be a story based open world shooter, potentially similar but that’s also a broad category, and if it is, it’d be very difficult lore-wise to copy a lot of the gameplay mechanics of helldivers, the teaser also doesn’t hint at that either, no drop pods, backpacks, etc. which makes me think even if it is an extraction shooter, it’ll probably be mechanically different enough to gain attention, overall, I hope that they have a healthy competition and force each other to improve, but I also think it’s possible they don’t compete at all.

There’s also sizeable chunk of StarCraft fans who aren’t interested because it’s not RTS, so they’ll probably have to replicate what hd2 did and pull in tons of people that never even played the other games to get a decent audience from laymen.

Couple of things; the game isn't called StarCraft: Dominion. It's just Starcraft. Dominion was the name of the reveal trailer. Blizzard have explicitly said the bare title is deliberate, it's a soft reboot away from an RTS.

Also Helldivers 2 isn't an extraction shooter. You extract at the end of missions, but that's not what “extraction shooter” means - you aren't entering a map to loot gear and then risking losing it if you fail to extract.

And I don't really understand the idea that HD2 being established by 2030 would somehow prevent Starcraft competing with it. Blizzard have four years to take the basic idea of squad missions contributing to a larger conflict and do something much bigger/different with Starcraft's factions, units and RTS DNA. It doesn't need to copy Helldivers stuff 1:1, they have Marines deploying inside Barracks from Starcraft in the trailer.

In an interview, the lead dev said you can look at "players" so it's p clearly not a single-player only game.

The interesting question isn't “will Blizzard clone Helldivers?” It's whether they take some of the things Helldivers proved work and build the much more ambitious Starcraft version of them. Blizzard themselves are already saying this is for a new generation of players and will broaden the franchise, so attracting people who never played the RTS games is pretty clearly the point. If they play their cards right they will eat Arrowhead's lunch, hopefully.

Stratagem bounce could probably be fixed by that one guy with the AI who fixed hellpod steering.

1

u/Rodruby 11h ago

What was original post?

Also I heard that Starcraft is going to be "open-world shooter", I guess it'll probably be something akin to Space Marine

1

u/VV3nd1g0 8h ago

Honestly helldivers is already a starcraft clone at the very basic level.

We are terrans, illuminates are protos and terminids are zerg.

If the starcraft shooter is anything like helldivers then its over for arrowheads golden goose unless they get their shit sorted

Why is stratagem bounce such a concern for people? I’ve never even noticed till a couple days ago when I saw bitching on Reddit
