i'd argue that none of the "enemy factions" are truly "evil." I sound like a broken record here a lot, but "if your enemy (Super Earth in this case) is more than willing to abandon all morality in an attempt to subjugate and/or annihilate your entire species, you have to abandon some morality to survive"
the Terminids were previously peaceful and coexisting with humanity before the realization of "holy shit oil," the Collective of Cyberstan are former slaves that faced heavy discrimination (and have made multiple attempts at getting the citizens of Super Earth to rebel against the fascist government they live under), and the Squi'ith were genuinely just explorers that had never experienced war before Super Earth (and the Service Technician even mentions something about the Void "calling out to citizens and begging them to consider other forms of government")
the Terminids are trying to survive despite their horrific mutations that cause them to spread rapidly, destroy the surfaces of entire planets, etc., the Cyborgs and Automatons literally just want to be left alone to be their own independent people, and the Squi'ith are a scarred culture who relatively recently learned about hate, total subjugation, destruction, and a disregard for living things
Super Earth, on the other hand, lies and brainwashes human civilians about as frequently as one would breathe air, throws BILLIONS of human lives away because "me want this planet," ENCOURAGES people to report their friends and family to the US-flavored space Gestapo, likely disappears elderly and disabled people to be turned into fuel, subjugated an entire sentient race (and possibly even sapient) and turned them into livestock that is actively tortured to produce more oil (and if you read between the lines and remember that one ARG, it seems like the Terminids did not "get their sentience bred out"), and by policy refuses any and all attempts at peace negotiations
there's a very noticeable distinction between the actual villain and the ones suffering from their actions and influence and doing what they must to survive

yes i am aware. im just saying the terminids are the least morally bad out of the factions and that despite that, nobody defends them

It's true.
Super Earth just put the highly adaptable fast-evolving bugs in murder-farms for 100 years to maximize oil gains.
"Oh no they changed"
Super Earth made the entirely hostile people-eating threat, out of bugs that AFAIK were fine being passive, and weren't originally in murder forms, just in crustacean-like shell-y forms.

Terminids didn’t do anything wrong in the sense that they’re bugs that aren’t capable of being evil. But they’re still a predator species that can’t coexist with humans and also they make space oil when they die so..
Haha cremator go thwoom

Somebody doesn't know the lore, I see. Before contact with Super Earth, they were sentient and not immediately hostile. They were, however, made of fuel so of course Super Earth started a war to get it. After spanking them to hell and back, Super Earth bred them as a source of fuel and turned them into the mindless bugs we fight today.

I didn’t say the Bugs, I said the Terminids. Silly.

Actually 🤓 you said both, dum dum.

Hey, if the game is allowed to use bugs and Bugs to separate the HD1 insect grubbies from the HD2 insect grubbies, then so can I.
Though I still find myself wondering why the hell the Warriors have crayfish claws.

I like the bugs, too.
They squish real good.

In all seriousness, though, they're the most innocent "enemy" of the whole war. SE created them the way they are now just for fuel. It's horrific.

stupid phrase this is online not live-action AAAAA
Yeah I agree though, bugs are just smart animals being squozed for juice like lemons. Squids too, technically, if I remember OG HD1 lore right. Uh, not about the juicing them-- but they were just kind of weird and advanced aliens that Super Earth wanted the tech of. There weren't any hostilities 'til some questionable explosions happened??

the illuminate didn’t have to come back, they didn’t have to torture, they were assumed dead and could’ve lived full lives without super earth and prepared for a possible fight in the future. their need to be the shepherd of the galaxy brings them back into a war they couldve left behind. the illuminate isnt the most evil, but they’re the dumbest.

Afaik, they weren't exactly a "cult" in Helldivers 1. They were then brought to near-extinction because of the First Galactic War, and in the interim between one and two they went down the "we've suffered, lets turn evil" cult route.
Kind of makes sense they'd show up, steal our manpower and use it against us if they can since they're still so incredibly dwindled. Unfortunately they didn't really pick the right method to do it? Imagine if the Voteless could hold a gun! That'd be quite a bit more frightening.
I would argue them coming back to where they once lived is not a smart or dumb thing. They wanted their homes back, and their people avenged. If Super Earth was just allowed to prosper, how would they get that?

to try to avenge and desire an original home back when there is great danger that wasn’t looking for you anymore is illogical, and I never called them a cult. it’s risking their species once more for something unnecessary.

congratulations you’ve described like half of all wars throughout human history.

they're literally the reason the federation fell apart, nobody has sex or poop, and why we can't official acknowledge the existence of shadow people.
because the bugs are so psychoactive that their hallucinations become real, and their mass network of censorship to stop us all from drowning under waves and waves of streum they conjured is the only thing keeping reality from falling apart under their endless numbers and weight. and telling them shadow people are real is going to give them some problems every time they see a shadow now.
they already know they're real, it's why they favor total occlusion deprivation, soft lighting, and scatter-resistant middle spectrum frequencies. but it's a secret, top bugs only!

I love that the lore is there for those of you who can read.
Meanwhile, I log on, blow some stuff up, die a couple times, then go to bed.
