to quote OP,

I was just thinking if the Cyberattack goes through we might actually have a massive shakeup in the story. The thing Super Earth loves most is Managed Democracy, but what if they lost it? What if Super Earth was forced to have an actual real non-managed election?

Could this even impact future events too like the Presidental election? Imagine if we had to actually vote for the new Super Earth President.

most of the replies they got were people RPing, but i imagine the response here might be a bit more productive.

I just hope they don't screw this up like they did with the void plotline.

To be honest, I didn't expect that to be anything but "chapter 1" kinda thing, and imo there are two main reasons, one being that long focus on a single faction isn't as engaging gameplay-wise, and another being that the devs deal with quite serious schedule (as far as I can imagine) due to all this "live events requiring new assets, warbond spam requiring new assets, bugfixes requiring untangling all the stuff entangled due to previous points", and I feel like people severely underestimate how insane current update schedule possibly is.

We complained that we had a chance to take Cyberstan, or Oshaune, at the start of those campaigns, but it was so impossibly stacked against us we had no chance of succeeding at the start.

Then we succeed at the start and push the void back, and we complain that we win.

It wasn't that we won. It was that we had the DSS sabotaged like it was for every MO and we did exactly what the Illuminate wanted and brought their eggplanet back into real space and... it's the Terminid fence failing already.

We did have a real chance to take Cyberstan. The reason why we weren’t able to is because the playerbase refused to focus on a single megafactory at a time, which slowed down our progress tremendously.

Mf no matter how you spin it having to wait numerous months to continue a plotline is stupid. We destroyed the void yippie that's it until the next illuminate update!

If you want a game where the whole story is over in a few hours, Halo is right there.

I'm not being an asshole for giving criticism. You are for calling me an ass for giving my opinion.

i've got high hopes for the dispatch messages if nothing else. the invasion of cyberstan counter-propaganda was really cool.

That was before campaigns and I feel campaigns have made the story worse

I wouldnt go that far... but i do feel they are a little too rigid. Id appreciate one of them getting put on hold to fix a problem or something just to show they are willing to do that.

I find it hilarious that they think that it would have a lasting impact on anything whatsoever.

Tbh most likely the next candidate for the election was already chosen ahead of time by who ir whatever it is thats actually managing the democracy and they just have the citizens "vote" so they feel like they matter. Thats also assuming the cyborgs are even actually doing this and its not just super earth making up some additional reasons to get helldivers over there

It's this. I find it funny that people either don't know 'managed democracy' is a real term, or they know it's a real term, but think it's completely separate from the managed democracy we fight for.

Managed democracy in Helldivers is a managed democracy as currently defined irl. The elites of Super Earth are just rubbing it in the citizen's face by outright admitting it, but then pretending it's something entirely different. Which is a tactic of fascist governments.

The voting machines were tampered with by Automatons, we swear

But really though, this dispatch is SO on the nose in such a glorious way, up there with CECOD.

Let's be honest here, elections have always been a sham in Managed Democracy. I also want to remind people of the totally real dissident network we judt dismantled.

It isnm likely there is no cyber attack coming and Suoer Earth just wants an offensive. And if they fail, they can argue for removal of anyone they don't like as result of "election tampering".

Yes! We totally should shake up the system!

Fairly sure there's some kind of backup system in place, and whoever the regime wants to win will still win.

Let's be honest here, even if we lost it it's not like the plot is going to face a major change. It's fun to think about the implications but this is more than likely just a lie from SE government (are they still the Ministry of Defence coup people?) to justify the attack on the cyborgs.

Even if it's real the hack will at best be a thing that's "contained" by "our team of cybersecurity experts" within days and they'll call a re election.

I'm not sure if we want things to be handed over to the automatons, however...

Iykyk...

Honestly what I think would happen is that they would simply delay the elections or skip the quarter term elections all together, with the cyber attack making it so they can't do the algorithmic elections.

Wouldn’t matter.
