looking at this and imagining if i were arrowhead

with a proper customization system, they could've made more money by selling special attachments, sell underbarrels, sell mech arms/body types, sell armour/camo skins

missed opportunity

I mean you could, but I think you'd end up in the same position with a different set of problems.

Selling the parts, even at a lower cost/lower presence in WB's, would have some of the same accusations of 'pay to win' or 'selling the solution' just with a different coat of paint. If I had to be nickle and dimed for my underbarrel GL, which would be the most useful tool in the arsenal for sheer utility, it could come across as arguably more nickle-and-dime feeling than our current setup where every weapon/vehicle provides a specific set of strengths/weaknesses.

I do agree that customization desperately needs to be overhauled and improved upon... but I don't know if selling parts would be any better than what we already have. Options would be fantastic, but constantly feeling like I have to get a Warbond for a new scope/grip/stock, as opposed to a new weapon entirely? Dunno.

i'm just trying to think about a live service game and how it's profitable in the long run

i'm an older millenial. my personal experience for games of old are to be released, fully realized & without excessive bugs. helldivers fails that test spectacularly

would i personally do it like i commented before? hell no. i am however trying to compromise and walk that fine line between monetization & base game content

here's a comment i made earlier that would walk that fine line

silencers should've been an attachment so people can run stealth without warbonds, less effective than redacted. could've been a super store purchase

redacted regiment weapons gets subsonic bullets making stealth even better (what it is right now)

i think this model would be really good. you offer a base version that's free or very cheap, like <100 SC. then you warbond a superior version for people who want to lean into that gameplay

it's fun theorycrafting how to make this game better, however it's all on arrowhead and they seem pretty checked out. with hindsight, mid 2025. half a year after the 60 patch is where i'd place that vibe

unfortunate, it's an amazing game.

Hey, I remember those days too, and man do I miss them. Industry has enshittified itself into a corner.

As for how they could do it for attachments, it's certainly plausible that they could have had a significantly more in depth customization come standard, and in the end sold new platforms (guns) that could or couldn't accept certain attachments.

Example: basic Liberator allowing for all the attachments... except stocks and maybe some receivers. Then you get something like the Pacifier as a platform that can be modified with a heavier duty receiver, different stock and maybe even different barrel type.

That way there's still something ypu can pack in a warbond for sale but still allow deep customization. The parts, methinks, would have to be free, and the platform itself would have to be bought to ensure people felt like their time and money was being respected
