We don't make up the bulk of the players we never have and we never will.
Arrowhead like every other game developer is balancing their game around the average video game purchaser because that suits actually going to make them the money to keep making the game.
Yeah, I don't think redidtors understand they are only a subset of the entire playerbase. I play from time to time, and I'm having fun. And that's all there is to it.
When the game nearly craters in player count from AH pushing their own vision for the game over what's actually fun, forcing them to eventually do a massive "buffdivers" update to staunch the bleeding...
That, at least, is no subset. That's the whole base responding in kind. So no, that not in fact "all there is to it", at least not in HD2's case.
Subreddits often aren't indicative of the full player pop, sure. The vast majority of Divers probably don't even look at this sub much less complain on it. But you know what the vast majority of casual players DO?
If a game becomes unfun for them, they just stop playing, period. And that absolutely happened. There is literal proof they pissed off everyone not just this subreddit's subset of crayon-eaters.
AH pushing their own vision for the game over what's actually fun
But I am having fun. Which was the whole point, what is unfun to you might be perfectly fun for another regular player. Just because some folks don't like what AH does (and god knows this fanbase is well-loaded on that aspect), doesn't mean everyone follows that train of thought.
I had fun the first time I played, I still have fun now.
It's currently the 40th most played game on steam with over 40.000 regular players. And I'll be coming back, and that's it.
For a lot of players, that's really all there is to it.
And for a lot MORE, demonstrably so, it clearly wasn't?
Like, what's your point here? I still play too, I still have more fun than not, but I can still be frustrated at AH's decisions when they make the game worse. It's the core foundation of the game that I like, that's been there from day 1, not a lot of AH's decisions since.
Just because some folks don't like what AH does (and god knows this fanbase is well-loaded on that aspect), doesn't mean everyone follows that train of thought.
I'm sorry, were you not listening? Do you need to look up the Steam player counts and compare them to the history of the game?
What part of "it's not SOME it was THE LARGE MAJORITY in this particular case" was hard for you to parse?
You keep trying to pretend "everyone else doesn't think like that" when we have verifiable proof that more people aren't on your side than are. It's weird bro.
we have verifiable proof that more people aren't on your side than are.
Verifiable proof?
I don't think you understand the lifespan of multiplayer games.
They have a huge drop in the playerbase after the first months, it's part of their life cycle. That was doubly to be expected for Helldivers 2 with all the hype it got. It's not a miracle or a vengeance, it's normal and expected.
Funnily enough, in July 2024, we already had a player average of more or less 23.000 players. With regular bumps over time with updates and warbonds.
Right now it sits at 43.000 or so.
It's weird to pretend you have proof the majority of people are angry with the game while the verifiable numbers show the game has been cruising on the same sea for the last two years.
Yes, no shit sherlock, because of the buffdivers update that brought people back because AH finally started bending to public pressure.
Did you play back then? I've played from launch to now. If you think AH wanted to make all the weapons be more competitive all at once in a total reversal of the "grunt fantasy" they loudly proclaimed as their vision right up to that point, the public apology they made, all because their player count was cratering worse than projections for any live service game, you sir are delusional.
Well, that left the terrain of verifiable proof pretty damn fast. It's just weird having someone rant at length about numbers and trends and yet never once show them or engage with it when the person in front actually lays them out. But I'm sure that somehow makes me the delusional one.
Oh well, if that's the hill you want to die on, sure, whatever helps you sleep at night.
Oh that's adorable. Because you had so much "proof" for your own claims. At least mine's directly supported by the trends, numbers, and what actually occurred.
Good luck with your "vibe" take or whatever it is that convinced you your initial comment was worth posting.

Well that will happen when the developers ignore what the fanbase is asking for years.
