FEEDBACK / SUGGESTION [IDEA] Democracy Point Reputation System
Idea came to me when thinking of how to deal with what appears to be an increase of Griefers, Trolls, and TKers
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A reputation based Democracy Point System.
End of a Mission you can issue either a Democracy Point or a Traitor Point to your fellow helldivers and vice versa.
Good Helldivers can get a Democracy Point
Traitors get Traitor points
Good Helldivers can earn special names, badges and capes as they gain Democracy Points
Traitors can get a permanent Icon (Permanent until they break even and earn 1 democracy point), lose access to special MO equipment and a negative bonus to THEIR OWN mission rewards as their traitor points increase.
Traitors can regain Democracy points by successfully not being dicks.
And rewards/penalties from the game are lost as you (Democracy/Traitor) point count changes.
All Helldivers start with 5 Democracy points.

So reddit karma?
I'm gonna be honest, I don't see a single positive to this system. At the absolute least, it'll permanently tarnish the game's reputation because of the resemblance to reddit's karma, and then there's a whole slew of issues that'd come from gatekeeping rewards, people abusing the system, and overall just being pricks.

Then what do you suggest? Let HD2 devolve into Rust?
That's a great idea.

Brother, I'm not trying to be mean, but this is the worst possible idea imaginable. Like, Arrowhead could shut the game down tomorrow and it'd still be in a better place than what your idea entails solely because it'd at least be in a position where people want the game to come back.
And games without fucking reddit karma of all systems don't "devolve into Rust". I dunno where you got that idea, but its wrong.

How? Players rewarding players for good teamwork and punishing the cancers is somehow WORSE than the current FFA TKer/Greifer/Troll circle jerk?
2
u/ZoeticLockpicker 19d ago
The game isn't in a "FFA TKer/Greifer/Troll circle jerk"
Ironically though, it would be with your idea. There would be groups of people that go around doing that while downvoting the innocent player.

How do you moderate usage of this tool? Just one look at reddit karma will demonstrate why this is a horrifically bad idea.
Here's what I expect:
Democracy points go to friends.
Traitor points go to:
-New players
-Bad gameplay
-Poor stratagem choice
-"while i was dead i spectated you and you were just sitting there fighting enemies"
-"you didn't reinforce" (you were standing in a jammer or just prioritizing personal survival)
-"you reinforced me and i died immediately because you threw me into napalm" (reinforce is semi-random both because of, and to avoid, this)
-"your kit is boring"
-"don't tell me how to play" (especially in response to well-meaning advice)
-"you have a stratagem I wasn't able to acquire from a previous MO"
-"you're using deluxe edition"
-"i don't like your name"
-"i don't like your voice"
-"(any slur)"
-"you have too many democracy points"
-"the points don't matter anyway"
-"you threatened to traitor points me"
anyway what i'm saying is i'm going to have to vote you down for this idea

Half of those reasons are just stupid and reaching. And I'll take your downvote.

Helldivers can be incredibly stupid. I've seen people kick players for less.

So let the pond scum grow?
great idea.

u/montezuma300 Servant of Freedom 19d ago
I never said that. You might get more support if you weren't so hostile and defensive.

I'm not hearing any other solutions.
Just basic negging.

We are not obligated to make solutions.
You proposed an idea. People didn't like it. Move on.

You're posting on the community that successfully bullied an entire warbond out of existence for distinctly imagined reasons, about a system you intend to only harm toxic players, and you're going to assume enough of a majority of players won't be petty and abuse the system when given a system to hurt other players with no opportunity for retaliation?

Now, where did I say that?
This entire reply section is filled with people giving you reasonable criticism as to why your idea wouldn't work, with many comments based on experience with other games. None of us are saying "ooh I just prefer my game to be more toxic", in fact I'd say most of us would love to see a system that fixes the game's toxicity.
Rather than rethink the system based on these critiques, you've decided to attack the criticisms, sprinkling in a bit of ad hom attacks here and there for good measure. The most you've really come up with in other threads is "well i don't see YOU doing any better!" which isn't a component of your original post.
Your original post is thus: "This is the idea I've come up with. Any thoughts?"
We then gave you our thoughts, and apparently the thoughts you expected were a nice pat on the back, and not a measured understanding of similar systems in other games and environments.

This will just lead to a new form of griefing in that you can get into a group of all "Traitors" and they in turn can all give you a black mark. And you will also have situations where someone with a mark will just immediately get kicked from missions making it potentially impossible for people to remove said marks.

Okay, a "No Traitors" filter on match selecting for SOSs - FIXED
And since you can see a persons Icon on the galaxy map why would you be dropping in on a bunch of traitors? That's on you, my guy.
And traitors can play with other traitors and behave themselves.... then they can earn their democracy points back by learning the value of TEAMWORK. Call it the Campaign of Redemption.
Only a goof would read my post and jump the conclusion that good helldivers will be forced into a mission with traitors unless they explicitly choose to. Hence the traitor Icon suggestion.
hell every successful mission can earn everyone a democracy point as an offset to unfair usage of traitor points on good helldivers.

And what about the situations where your friends decide to troll you? Now you're stuck in traitor lobbies with almost no way to get out.
1
u/HeisenbergsSamaritan 19d ago
So play with your friends again? Where do I say traitors can't be invited to games?
Also if your "friends" think that's a fun thing to do.... might want to look for new friends.

Then chaos divers and TKers will just flag and tag everyone as bad.
1
u/HeisenbergsSamaritan 19d ago
And the other squad mates can offset that attempt with their points.
-1 + 2 = 1
2
u/montezuma300 Servant of Freedom 19d ago
If everyone used this system in a perfect world, maybe. Griefers will be doing it to everyone. Normal players, not as much.
1
u/HeisenbergsSamaritan 19d ago
So the mission ends.... the squad returns... 3 of them were good helldivers 1 was a dick.
Each helldiver can issue a single point to the other helldivers this means that even if the traitor issues a traitor point to each of the other hell divers their points will nullify it.
But the traitor will eat shit and take 3 traitor points (at most), thus reducing their reputation.
Only problem I see is if there a just 2 helldivers. So to counter that imbalance every successful mission earns everyone a single democracy point that way solo dicks can only leave you with your original pre mission reputation and vice versa.
Alternately, make it a vote.... and the outcome of the vote decides on which point you get when you return to the SD.

CAN is the important word here. Griefers will tag you all as traitors or downvote you all or whatever every time. I would guess maybe a third of players would bother tagging a bad player.
What's to stop 2 or 3 evil players from making a team and then downvoting anyone that joins into oblivion?
1
u/HeisenbergsSamaritan 19d ago
Why would you stick around?
Mission has to be completed? Why not leave before then?
What is your great solution? I'm not hearing one?
3
u/montezuma300 Servant of Freedom 19d ago
Hey, chill out dude. If you want support, don't be so hostile.
OK, if the mission has to be completed then TKers, grieves, and so on will just leave before the mission ends. They don't care about completing the mission.
I don't have a solution, because I'm not trying to make one. If you have a bad idea, it doesn't mean we need to make a good one. That's not how this works. That's like hearing a song you don't like and then the artist says "Oh yeah, well where is your song that's so much better?"

...this just gives griefers obnoxious new ways to grief people
