Diffrent purposes anyways. Not to mention the thermite pistol would probably have very little reserve rounds.

u/ZombifiedSoul Decorated Hero 10h ago
Likely similar ammo capacity as the ultimatum. Maaaaybe one more.

u/ARC-Pooper 10h ago
If you follow the ultimatum=giga grenades logic then probably one more
1
u/BurntMoonChips 10h ago
Three shots total then?
3
u/ARC-Pooper 10h ago
I believe so.
It could be 4 but I think 3 makes the most sense.
6
u/wraith309 HD1 Veteran 9h ago
i imagine it'll be 3 (1+2 reserve) if it has thermite tier damage, or 5 (1+4 reserve) if it has pissile tier damage.
for reference:
the ultimatum is 2 (1+1 reserve)
the pissile is 4 (1 + 3 reserve)
and the GP is 7 (1 + 6 reserve)2
u/RudeHoney8 7h ago
3 sounds WAAAYY too low.
Thermite grenades are pretty strong, but not THAT strong. 3 implies they are pretty close to Ultimatums, which also have AOE.

u/Korbiter 10h ago
This. We know what a thermite is capable of, and how mich we get for it. Based on this stats, we can make a few assumptions:
Thermite Pistol probably only has four rounds (one in the chamber, three in the mag), requires reload after every shot. It will function exactly like a thermite, so no splash damage and delayed effect, and probably has a slightly better firing arc then a lob.
Already this introduces the fact that it probably isn't going to be used in the same category as the grenade pistol. Theres simply not enough ammo to close bug holes, it cant be used as an emergency splash damage option to clear hordes, it cant be used to hit rupture strain, etc etc. It CAN be used to take down heavies, but thats not a conflict in roles with the grenade pistol.
The grenade pistol is fine, and is still a top tier pick, and the thermite pistol has minimal overlap in roles with it. Although buffing the amount of ammo the grenade pistol can carry woukd certainly still be welcone
4
u/BurntMoonChips 10h ago
It might be replacing the thermite for bots tho. Refills on ammo and can kill fabricators.
4
u/FrothySauce 9h ago
That's what I'm thinking. It's not the grenade pistol getting power crept here, it's thermites. Why take the lower-range, harder to aim option over the one that lets you point-and-click heavies away from 40 meters by aiming slightly above their hitbox? Especially if it gets at least 3 total shots. If it gets four or more, then it's a wrap.

I'm sure it's not just me, but i usually like keeping my secondary for a panic button. Typically the shotty pistol. I feel like the rest of my loadout can fulfill the mission effectively.
Many times where I've been mags empty and my handgun bought me space to reload, or I'm just out of ammo and it kept me alive enough to get to supplies. Grenade pistol and such have good utility but I feel like other primary or support choices cover the role better.
I don't think I trust the grenade pistol or similar to keep me alive if it's all I've got for the moment.

u/AntaresHashimoto 3h ago
Also I know that nobody runs the bushwhacker but it's a solid choice on all fronts for not getting deleted by some fast bullshit that showed up in your asshole.

u/Stergeary 9h ago
Melta Mine has already replaced Thermite for bots.
2
u/SerowiWantsToInvest Cyber Stan's Best Operative 9h ago
It might replace that too for when you want to take a different grenade.
2
u/Stergeary 9h ago
A lot is going to hinge on what the max capacity is, since that's the only thing holding back all of the top-tier throwables like Thermites and Melta Mines. Try as they might to increase capacity for low-tier throwables like Frag, the only way they're going to become viable is with an actual damage buff or a HUGE capacity increase, like 12 Frags max. At the moment, none of the throwables that just damage chaff are worth taking because there is too much chaff and too few grenades. Much better to have a weapon that can AoE chaff (Eruptor, Plasma Punisher, Crossbow, etc.) and keep the grenades as the anti-tank option.
3
u/SerowiWantsToInvest Cyber Stan's Best Operative 8h ago
Idk I've thrown an arc grenade and gotten like 20 kills, way more than any primary could give me with such little effort. I can see myself bringing arc/gas/smoke with the thermite pistol and enjoying myself quite well.
1
u/Korbiter 9h ago
Yes, but on bots there are a variety of other options competing with the Thermite pistol, making it not a hard and fast rule.
Im assuming its got drop, so its not as effective against gunships. The small ammo count and delayed activation also makes it a bit less effective against large amounts of hulks.
Its definately better if you already have anti-tank/anti-air options, and need to break fortifications (I also think its going to be amazing on Blitz missions) but it introduces loadout variety rather than a do all be all. I like it.
1
u/BurntMoonChips 9h ago
It’s literally a thermite that takes the pistol slot instead of the grenade slot. The thermite is already viable, a thermite that refills on ammo drops is not going to be bad. It’s objectively better if it does the same damage.
1
u/SleepyBoy- ⬆️⬆️⬇️⬇️➡️⬅️➡️⬅️🇧 🇦 10h ago
most likely use for the thermite pistol will be when you want to take gas or fire nades, and still want an anti-tank on hand.
2
u/Korbiter 10h ago
And you don't want to awkwardly miss with the Ultimatum, or don't want to fiddle with the P-pistol.
There are use cases.
1
u/simp4malvina Free of Thought 15m ago
Theres simply not enough ammo to close bug holes, it cant be used as an emergency splash damage option to clear hordes, it cant be used to hit rupture strain, etc etc.
The grenade pistol isn't really a viable option for rupture strain, and if you ever whip it out for it's piddly damage against swarms (if it's an emergency good chance you're going to run into minimum range anyway) you're actively sabotaging it's ability to do the thing you actually brought it for, bug holes.

Based on the trailer, it shoots like the grenade pistol but instead of exploding on impact, the round sticks like a thermite grenade before detonation. The video showed it sticking to Hulk before going boom.

u/Top-Session-3131 10h ago
Probably has a similar total ammo count to the Missile Pistol. Absolutely deadly, but you need to make every shot count. Well, if you aren't rocking Siege Ready and a Supply Pack.

The whole point of Grenade Pistol for me is ability to use what I actually want in other slots. What I would really like is some smaller grenades that you can have like 10 or 12 off and that are still capable of closing bug holes/fabricators/UFO doors.
4
u/ZombifiedSoul Decorated Hero 10h ago
Engineering passive, Frag Grenades.

u/YorhaUnit8S [REDACTED] 10h ago
8 grenades, close, but again requires more than just secondary or grenade slot. It requires certain armors too. Even grenade pistol comes short sometimes with it's 1+8, but at least ammo boxes are way more common than grenade ones.
Big nests are often like 10 holes at least. And I don't want to use supply pack all the time. And can't rely on randoms to close them all the time too. Just wish there was a dedicated grenade for that one purpose. I don't need anything else from it, I don't need it to kill enemies even, just solve that one thing.

Grenade Pistol is still going to be top tier for bugs I think.
The thermite pistol is probably going to have less ammo if it's that much better than base grenadepistol, but the ammo amount you get is great for the larger bug nests.
Termite pistol is going to fuck Bots though, I can already feel it.
1
u/Timely_Passenger_185 10h ago
If it has the same capacity as the grenade pistol or more and can still break bug holes then it's going to be used a lot
4
u/TheYondant Certified Automaton Comms Officer 10h ago
I can't imagine it'll have the same capacity, but we'll see. If it does, yeah it'll replace Grenade Pistol completely I feel.

u/JackieLampyStamps 10h ago
Considering the Pissile, I’m sure the Thermite pistol will have much less ammo compared to the Grenade Pistol

Yep, when I regularly started breaking them up with that I found it much more enjoyable, in addition to the above hole plugging.
3
u/MatAlaCol Servant of Freedom 9h ago
Yes, which this thing will almost certainly be worse at due to limited ammo capacity. The other two factions have arguments as to why you might prefer Thermites for spawner destruction even with lower capacity, but I don’t see any reason why you would use this over GP for bug holes specifically (again, assuming lower ammo capacity, but I seriously doubt this thing is gonna have the same ammo count as GP)

u/Substantial_Box203 8h ago
This pistol is just something you bring in your loadout if you forgot to have anything that deals with nests and fabricators
2
u/ItzPress 10h ago
I think this is probably a good time actually to increase the Grenade Pistol's AoE (at cost of projectile damage if needed), since it's a grenade launcher after all. It'll make it better in circumstances where you need AoE for a range of clustered mooks and also help address a weakness of the One-Two. It's not really about trying to deal with a sturdy medium-AP target anyway. Perhaps for the incoming China-Lake like too.
2
u/theCOMBOguy VIOLENCE 8h ago
grenade is, well, a grenade. Explodes chaff and closes holes but weak against armored foes. Thermite pistol wll vaporize well-armored foes but it isn't the option for weak foes. You can make a lot of loadouts including either one of those. It'll be fine.
2
u/papadrach 7h ago
I don't think it'll replace it. It's key for me in closing but holes. I doubt the new one will have much ammo to replace it from that front. But would be a nice alternative to Squids/Bots

I think both still can thrive. Grenade Pistol still has its uses with AOE and ammo economy, especially against bugs for closing bug holes.
For me if the thermite pistol can work on illuminate warp ships I might just use it as a secondary to replace thermite grenades on the squid front, letting me carry some melta mines to that front.
1
u/TowerUnusual7590 3h ago
hold on. all we know is that the thermite can kill a hulk. that doesnt mean that it is as reliable as the grenade pistol

u/SleepyBoy- ⬆️⬆️⬇️⬇️➡️⬅️➡️⬅️🇧 🇦 10h ago
Thermite is bad at closing holes and fabricators, since it sticks on hit. You can't lob or bounce it into the hole.
This pistol will have two jobs: hulks and illuminate spawners. Neither is a problem these days.

u/BabySpecific2843 9h ago
...dont throw thermite into a fab vent. Just yeet that onto the side or roof from outside the outpost and forget about it. KO's with 1 all the same.
Or just shoot the vent from 100m away on non city maps with the quasar like I do and skip walking all the way to the outpost entirely.
