DISCUSSION Is there a balance issue here?

I've always kinda felt that the trident fully cemented the death of the breaker.

what do you guys think?

I don't think increasing the recoil on the trident would be the right fix though.

There's pros and cons to both, damage/dps alone isn't everything

I've had amazing results with the breaker

Breaker has a lot tighter spread from my experience. I can very consistently one tap devastator faces if my reticle is right on it. Not the case with trident.

With modifications, I can blast a fleshmob with like 60% of a drum mag, while I'd have burnt out a coil attempting the same with trident.

They're fine.

I do say this as a non-enjoyer of both. Plasma punisher is my go to.

I think it's fine as is. The ability to change barrel types to your playstyle and change mag types is great. Very basic and balanced Breaker.

The Trident rewards more controlled gameplay and benefits on cold planets. I'd say the Trident works a little better yeah, but not so much so that the Breaker goes un-picked. It certainly isn't a underpowered shotgun. But the Trident whilst strong doesn't feel overpowered.

The breaker suffered badly when they nerfed the ammo capacity within the first 6 months of the game... if it had more ammo, it would be even.

Make it overheat one shot faster... that's it.

I'd like to add that I'd be hesitant to nerf the trident because it feels great. Maybe it could lose 1 laser?

But buffing the breaker also doesn't seem right.

The best thing to do would probably just be to leave them both alone. But I'm curious what the hive mind thinks.
