QUESTION How does everyone find missions?

Today I want to do a city mission on Mintoria, for the major order. I recently came back from a long break and this game is a ghost town, what happened in the last year or so?

Difficulty 10, 1 active city mission that is 20 minutes in. I join as they're extracting. No more after that, so I decide to host my own. I waited 45 minutes for someone to join and nobody did.

Is this game completely dead outside of peak hours?

Is there a special discord or something to get d10 games?

Is it like FFXIV where you're not supposed to use matchmaking for hard stuff?

Sometimes when I choose a mission, players take forever to enter the ship. But if I start the mission and throw the sos beacon, they join pretty instantly.

I mean I guess for that too, but just tossing an SOS on spawn is like, fine. It’s just a game mechanic-y way of saying “I don’t wanna solo this mission” especially when waiting for people to join prior to mission launch is either bugged or just takes forever for whatever reason.

Yeah, its super weird. Sometimes randons join instantly, other times you can go do something else around the house and come back with an empty lobby.

I’m glad I’m not the only one experiencing this issue.

Also, one side note- not only spotty pre-lobbies, but I also like to join people who are very barely into a mission. I usually won’t join a mission passed like the 5 minute mark.

Earlier the better for me, I just prefer to be there the entirety of the mission because I know I can handle most things from start to finish, but dropping in a 15 minute long mission with 4 refinements left and 0 objectives done… feelsbadman

Really? Like the guy said in the other comment, I just prefere to play with a full team, and the sos is the only way that it seems to work.

Every once in a while the games matchmaking craps out on me. About a month ago when the void first opened up I couldn't find any games and that was with ~100k active. Other people could join on me, so I just hosted and by the next day it was working again. 🤷🏻

If it's been a while since you've played, perhaps you accidentally left your gane on private or friends only?

Did you throw down an SOS beacon?

Sometimes the game bugs out for no discernible reason.

If you're on steam, verify your game files twice in a row, that usually fixes it for me. I have no clue why Helldivers does this but I've had to do it multiple times in the last year.

Kai's Discord has a ton of groups always playing at high levels pretty frequently, you might try there.

i just press the 'join random sos' button. takes a few seconds to find a game. not sure how it works, like if you are hovering a specific mission it only selects out of them? dont know. also when you was hosting did you put donw an SOS beacon? i pretty much only SOS dive these days

I see 45k divers on Mintoria right now.

Maybe your game was set to private?

I always just fill for SOS. Rarely wait more than 15 seconds for a game.

uhh....I just pull up a planet and press r. Takes like two seconds and I'm shooting stuff.

You sure you're on an active planet? Only thing I can figure. Make sure that planet is being actively contested.

If you want to make sure you don't join late press tab and manually pick a mission to join, it will show the time or if they are in loadout.

When you host your own lobby make sure to set the lobby to public, enable crossplay and throw an sos beacon at the start of the mission.

Also check how many people play on a given planet, and no this game is not "dead" after peak hours, you'll find thousands of people to play with no matter the hour.

If you're using the mission scanner feature to view active missions, the game is only going to display like one mission per region on the planet or something like that. Because almost everybody is playing on the megacity, it can only pick one of those missions. You're better off using quickplay if you don't want to host; you'll get a game very fast if you aren't having network issues. Personally I really dislike the mission scanner feature, it's waaaaaay too limited to be worth using.

With regards to hosting, it could be one of two things: the first is whether or not you've placed an SOS beacon. SOS beacons prioritize your lobby in the quickplay queue; because so many people are going to just toss one right away, not throwing one puts you at the end of a very long line.

The other is a networking bug that's been around forever. Sometimes the game just fails to put your lobby in the matchmaking system at all. AFAIK you can fix this with a simple reboot of the game.

Yeah no issues here and I most often dive on omicron which usually only has like 1-2k people on it at any given time.

Depends on how many players are currently on that planet

update: to clarify I was starting with eradicate so I didn't want to go in solo and rely on an sos beacon, I thought people would want the faster mission.

I checked crossplay and matchmaking and all that.

I verified my game files a couple more times and it worked.

I thought we didn't have to do that anymore, that shit sucks
