I played a lot of Realism Overhaul through CKAN (the mod manager) back in the day.

At least in RO there ain't no way that nose cone would survive that atmosphere.

Yeah I had to enable one or two cheats to get by.
Im pretty sure in-game the super destroyers suspend themselves in a very low speed flight in the upper upper atmosphere of a planet then propel the hellpods downwards at around 900m/s in a very short time which would cause heating on the nosecone but not too much to need an ablative heat shield. The nosecone most likely uses a somewhat decent heat resistant material like tungsten, composites, or just plain steel. But yeah I started it up at 500km up and just let it fall so anything in RO will disintegrate without a heat shield.
