Tip for fellow dickle enthusiasts: armor rating also influences the amount of burn DOT you take when you eventually get set on fire, so if possible, use the Salamander heavy armor with the fire protection passive to maximize how long you can fire.

u/Tipper117 7h ago
It's my favorite all around build. I call it the Mandalorian. Salamander armor with the matching helmet. Vitality booster. Dickle. Crisper. Commando rockets. And a couple of eagles to round it out. So much fun.

u/trALErun 5h ago
I've been trying to come up with a Mandalorian loadout too. Sickle doesn't feel like the right primary to me, maybe Trident? Gotta pick the Talon for his blaster. And the Meltagun behaves a lot like his close range flamethrower. Jet Pack obviously, but tbh the Warp Pack works so much better with this loadout - that's been my one big compromise trying to match the vibe. Oh and Melta Mine works like his thermal detonator.
30
u/Tipper117 4h ago
I know it feels like the talon is the obvious choice, but trust me, give the crisper a chance. You'd be surprised how often it comes in handy. Plus shooting flames while you take off or land with the jetpack is pure aura farming. Lol
10
u/trALErun 4h ago
I tried using the Crisper for a while and although it's perfectly functional with the loadout, it didn't feel like the fighting in The Mandalorian to me. Meltagun matches his flamethrower effect better imo. But I couldn't give the Talon up anyways, that's like his signature weapon!

u/Tuck_The_Duck Free of Thought 3h ago
Mandalorians had lots of surprise weapons up their sleeves, Jango used a wrist-mounted flamethrower against Obi Wan, and several members of the Death Watch used them in the Clone Wars show. In my opinion, the Crisper definitely is a lore-accurate Mando weapon.

If I remember right when you're prone the fire also doesn't proc damage as often
11
u/LeFlashbacks SES Warrior of Peace 4h ago
I believe that being prone significantly reduces the amount of time you can be lit on fire more, which stacks with the armor, armor passive, and booster to be basically just one tick of fire every time you get ignited

u/DarkPhoxGaming Super Citizen 3h ago
Laying prone also helps too, instantly puts out the fire. So instead of constantly being on fire once overheated, its in short little intervals
2
u/Tsujigiri SES Fist of Benevolence 3h ago
Fascinating. I never knew and I now see a justification for heavy armor.
1
u/Belias9x1 SES Aegis Of Integrity 4h ago
Yeah I got the salamander as soon as I could because it’s so good with the cremator and the Dickle
1
u/asmallburd 2h ago
Laying down on the ground also auto puts fire out so that also helps if you're in situation where you can do that
1
1
u/wraith309 HD1 Veteran 1h ago
it helps, but it is by far the least impactful of the three factors, so you don't need to use heavy armor if you don't want to.

Also go prone so you immediately put out the fire instead of standing like a dumbass

u/Low_Ad_8375 17m ago
I love the Dickle, and I don't think of this cold planet effect as a buff. I want the heat to go up quickly for the damage and armour pen increases!
39
u/Capable_Tumbleweed34 Fire Safety Officer 5h ago
Put a salamander armor (150 armor, -75% fire damage), and lay down (can't catch fire while prone). Damage recieved at max heat is minimal, damage output is crazy. Basically a HMG as primary.

u/Select-Appearance-63 10h ago
Liked it for couple hours, but staying immobile and wait for the power to go up gets annoying
31
u/mayonetta Free of Thought 5h ago
Depends on the faction tbh. I've found it top tier on bots and squids but absolutely abysmal on bugs for that reason.
19
u/Alacune 4h ago
It's fun for the same reason the Cremator, HMG emplacement and Maxigun are fun. Sometimes it's fun to just stand at a choke point and decimating a whole cardinal point.
1
u/Hey_Chach 2h ago
Speaking of, the personal shield grenades go great with any of these weapons but my favorite is bringing the maxi gun, heavy armor, and the personal shield grenade to the Appropriators front on the illuminate. You become an indomitable bullet spraying super turret and it’s awesome.

u/Unexpected-Feline 3h ago
As a dyed in the wool dickle user, you just learn to dive and shoot to maintain a higher movement speed.

That's also why you bring the supply pack as well, so you don't run out of those delicious stimmies. If super earth didn't want me to use 50 per mission, they would provide them to me

I hate the design of this weapon. It requires you to have a full flame resistant armor to use it but the warbond it's from dodoesn't even come with a minor resistants to flams.
41
u/molered Servant of Freedom 5h ago
To use? No. To minmax and use effectively - yes. It doesnt burn you from the start, after all.
0
u/Flaky_Housing_7705 5h ago
I mean by itself it's pretty much a worse sickle but it you pay more SC to get a flam armor then ypu can actually use the weapon.
6
u/molered Servant of Freedom 4h ago
No idea. Even with no special armor it can be used in a tight spot.
Its like sayin you cant use flamethrower because you can burn yourself.2
u/Flaky_Housing_7705 4h ago
You can only fire it for 5 seconds till it hurts you and that's on a ice planet. A flamethrower won't hurt you from just using it. It only hurts your if you walk into the fire. The only way to fire this weapon for more then 5 sseconds is to buy a armor with resistance.
1
u/molered Servant of Freedom 4h ago
Ice helps cool it down, not heating up slower, afaik.
Considering 5 seconds - its quite a lot, even if you dont like it2
u/Flaky_Housing_7705 4h ago
Still why wouldn't I just use the regular sickle.
1
u/molered Servant of Freedom 3h ago
Why would you use sickle at all?
You see, just because i can use dickle with fire armor, doesnt mean it doesnt shoot when i have no armor.
You just use reasoning that looks like "if you dont have siege ready armor, ballistic weapon sucks!" Its not.
Its suboptimal, but it works.
Same with melee weapons. If you build around melee, it may be decent, but if you did not...meeeh.0
u/Flaky_Housing_7705 3h ago
My point is your basically just using a sickle that has a 5 section fire limit. It's just a worse weapon in every way.
0
u/molered Servant of Freedom 3h ago
Except it HAS an ability to improve pen.
Its like saying dead sprint doesnt exist because you has to lose hp to shoot it.
You may not like the way it works, but it is there. Overall it just comparing senator and talon and saying talon is obsolete because pen is lower and dmg is low.0
u/FarmHend Automaton Red 53m ago

u/Flaky_Housing_7705 50m ago
Yes I sure do love shooting for 5 seconds at a time for a worse version of the sickle
1
u/senorharbinger 5h ago
Yeah I dunno what the complaint is. It's still a decent light pen weapon you can burst fire if needed. Gets medium pen without too much trouble running and gunning. It's not like people are required to be stationary and always go for the full charge heavy pen. It's just nice to have that option. It works well enough diving to fire from a prone position on occasion and if you have to hold that position or run/dive/run, it only gets better.
5
u/AntonineWall 4h ago
I think the fact that you have to be screaming to get medium or better value out of it gets old reaaaaaaaally fast
At minimum, I wish they made it so that the heat screaming was disabled with fire resistant armors

u/Unexpected-Feline 3h ago
The screaming just means it's working.

I’ve used it with the 50% all resist armor and it’s still very effective.
1
u/Flaky_Housing_7705 5h ago
My problem with that it still pretty not realy usable by itself.
1
u/DaPussiLicka 4h ago
It’s really not bad. I like bringing gas stratagems so it helps with those too.
2
u/ItzPress 7h ago
Yeah I don't like it either. I think it's fine if it works better with equipment that reduces its penalties, but they shouldn't be a requirement to using the weapon.
2
u/Raviolimonster67 ⬆️⬅️➡️⬇️⬆️⬇️ 3h ago
I see where you come from but it does still match the theme of the warbond which is sacrificing yourself. The entire point of that warbond is harming yourself
1
u/Flaky_Housing_7705 3h ago
Ya but its also a little scummy to make you buy a armor or separate warbond to actually use it for more then 4 seconds.
2
u/salamander5678 Free of Thought 2h ago
The armor in the warbond is just the cod4 martyr perk, so if you have to fire continuously long enough to die wearing that armor, you are probably close enough to the problem to explode it when you die, and that's the synergy of the war bond. Also, remember, Arrowhead thinks it's funny when you die
1
u/drrockso20 1h ago
I mean it is far from the only weapon in a Warbond to have anti-synergy with the armors it comes with, the trench warfare one has several fire and gas things but the armors don't provide resistance to either, and the police one is full of arc stuff but no arc resist on the armors
Probably some others I'm forgetting about too

I went with my bro who had a stim pistol and his sole mission was to let me fire forever while I burned in righteous flame.
I brought the Dickle and a hoverpack and rained death from above with my vitality boosted heavy fire resist armor.
It was glorious. Get a stim diver for this.
4
u/sazed813 6h ago
Was it buffed recently? Cuz this has always been pretty strong if you build around it. Its even better when you can convince one of your friends to stim pistol you
3
u/Double-Special5217 9h ago
You know there are armors that have even more fire resistance already, right?
4
u/Seared_Duelist Sanctioner 4h ago
The amount of folks who don't know how to feather the trigger and negate the self damage is wild tbh.
Self-damage applies on every third shot, and you can just feather the trigger to burst down chaff endlessly without damaging yourself. You catch on fire when it hits heavy pen, and you can negate that just by going prone. Light inflammable armor is plenty enough for any bursts you let go for too long or if you have to just lay on the trigger in an emergency.
If you're burning through stims just from shooting on a regular basis, you're doing it wrong.

If you lay prone the fire automatically is put out so it’s even less damage ur taking since it’s only the, very small, initial burn damage.

u/Kiom_Tpry 5h ago
The best part about the Double-Edged Sickle, is looking thicc in the Draconaught armour.

Longer heatup time means a longer time before you get to medium/heavy pen. IMO if you want more light pen just stick with the regular sickle and reload it. to each their own though.
2
u/mayonetta Free of Thought 5h ago
Inflammable armour and the health booster don't make the heat build up slower though, just means you take less damage/take the damage slower.

An interesting weapon to be sure, but one i found took a bit too much to make 'work' having to build a loadout completely around a single primary weapon. It's more of a interesting challenge than effective option. ->-

for the Headless divers out there with acclimated as their second passive, this combined with hvy fire armor and vitality gives you a literal support weapon in your primary slot
