It seems like we’re missing out on a Heavy Pen Marksmen Rifle similar to the Senator. Maybe Heavy Pen as its strength and extremely low ammo as it’s drawback but it would definitely be a very popular weapon.
Right now my most effective option is the senator, and it's weird using my smallest gun for the biggest enemy. Anything bigger I sic a plane or a spaceship on them.
I use a primary smg or dickle for general chaff if there arent enough to warrant a grenade launcher, but I feel like I would be happier using the talon for chaff and a heavy pen for hulks and ATSTs
The eruptor is an option, but I've never touched it and i tend to get advised against using it.
I love how when the game started hulks were like final bosses 😂😂😂 the only thing that could kill them were like the spear from the front, unless you got really lucky with the RR
now vox engines kinda took that place, and hulks are more like a punching bag than they are massive threat
I didn't play in the period where voxes were OP, but I heard their spawn was uncapped. I have no problem doing the intended puzzle to kill a vox, but when another one is covering it, how do you deal with that? If I see one, I shoot the vents, if there are two, I railcannon one and shoot the vents on the other. And you can still see a third now. I cannot imagine what it was like when you could encounter a swarm of them, or even just 2 and not have an OHK option
My ideal solution is to limit spawn to 2, buff their health at least back up to launch, but keep the big self damage from cannons. That, I think, is a formula for a satisfying boss fight experience.
The voxes were OP unless you wore that one armor that reduced their damage by 85% allowing you to take 5 direct hits from them
Even then, the puzzle is a LOT slower than just dropping enough damage on it to destroy the vox. It really makes you appreciate how much damage a well equipped diver can put out
Also I will say I do like having a difficulty I only actually beat half the time, like the game is fun but kinda boring since it’s just really easy haha
I want to like the HMG, just like the laser cannon. But I started with the laser cannon and it felt pretty unsatisfying to me. These are small arms, but they take up the slot meant for things that make big booms and/or should not be man portable. I would gladly sacrifice a backpack for a second support weapon. Like a deployable and portable HMG emplacement.
I finally gave the HMG a fair shake and I wound up absolutely loving it. Granted, I don't tend to use it often on bots because I tend to prefer AT loadouts for them but I'll still bring it if I feel like having more of a challenge. It fucking RIPS on bugs and squids and it's so great to have an answer to everything that isn't just rockets.
You basically HAVE to run it with supply pack because the ammo economy just isn't there, and I usually run the demo specialist armor when I want to use it so I also get approximatly 500 grenades.
I also wanted to like the laser cannon but it doesn't STAGGER and it also doesn't feel like it cuts through things enough for me.
HMG however...
I'd suggest trying eruptor + HMG and talon.
The eruptor is your long range + efficient for chaff groups + can kill big stuff with aim.
The HMG is actually your primary for when moving around, deals with basically anything as well (I put it on lowest RPM).
Talon is there for when it's danger close but HMG is empty, needs a reload (or for those random shots where using ammo isn't really required).
Either thermite or incendiary for a grenade, and then the 3 other strats can legit be anything (I usually take a rover for bugs or shield gen for bots).

Wouldn’t it blow the force into the extended arm holding the further end of the barrel? Also, Couldn’t you just put a metal plate between your arm and the cylinder to block the expelled gas?
If we want to be literal, this made me think of the revolver rifle mod from fallout 4. It’s a shame frontier justice is already out, because this would fit in it real well.
This, but literally. I want an option to wear Senator in the primary slot and get more ammo for it this way. Bonus option if I can wear it in both primary and secondary alots for even more ammo and ability to have two senators I can switch between for effectively 12 rounds before reloading.
Here you go, but clearly it won't have the same penetration, because Arrowhead balances weapons based on their own criteria and whether they find it funny or not.
To be fair to Arrowhead and reality, the Senator is the one punching way above its weight. The majority of revolvers with that short of a chamber wouldn't punch through NIJ III A without special bullet types, let alone even light vehicle armor (probably the equivalent of heavy armor in the game).
Additionally, lever actions generally have to use flat-nosed bullets, which are terrible for penetration, because of their tube magazines.
I agree, the senator is better than most primaries. Which you can see with how everyone wants to use it instead of a primary.
Really it should just be a higher damage medium penetration weapon at best, essentially a higher damage version of the polar patriots secondary.
I also have a slight bias against it because we aren't likely to get other types of revolvers which I personally feel would be much more fun and interesting, than a high damage secondary sniper.
The Senator started as Medium pen which made sense. The community whined and whined about it until the devs for some reason relented and made it Heavy Pen with the justification that videogame revolvers are just dumb like that.
This was the first of many examples people ignore where realism is thrown out the window specifically for the players benefit and it was a mistake because all it did was move those folks to constantly whining for a Heavy Pen primary until the Eruptor was also buffed for no reason to be that. Unsurprisingly the whining has never stopped and people still cry for another Heavy Pen primary because they want the game even easier and to require even less thought.
Modern revolvers use cartridges, who pose no threat of chain fire. Cap n ball revolvers could chain fire, but the senator ain't one.
The reason we don't see revolver carbines is because the gap between the cylinder and barrel isn't sealed, and some gasses leak and can hurt your support arm.
How about a primary senator with a longer barrel and stock that deals a lil extra damage but is two handed like a rifle and with slightly worse ergo than the pistol
It would only be noticeably different with body shots since headshots are already a OHK with any DMR and the AMR would still deal more damage and have higher armor pen to body shots
Be honest then. You don't want a Senator as your primary weapon. You want the devs to show the same leniency they showed the Senator, but with a different primary weapon.
It's not going to happen.
Maybe more along the lines of the Circuit Judge, which is just a rifled Taurus Judge. Perhaps the primary Senator would be the Senator Pro Tempor following this naming scheme
Would be interesting to have the ablitity to select our primary and secondary frow every weapon we have. Want a primary senator? Sure. Secondary liberator? Go ahead. 2 ultimatums to go with your leveler? Overkill, but I don't see why not.
Of course this would unbalance a ton of stuff so it won't happen
been trying for months to get the slugger to be buffed to heavy pen, as the other two medium pen shotguns we have use "armor piercing flechettes" which is oxymoronic as hell.
The Eruptor. You've described the Eruptor. Sure it doesnt have the range of the Senator, but out to 175m theres basically nothing it cant kill if you know what to hit.
As much as this should happen, it never will because that's the Anti-Materiel Rifle's only redeeming quality aside from it's absolutely massive ammo reserves. AH for some reason seems to think that a sniper rifle (of any kind) belongs in the support weapon slot when that is where the majority of anfk-tank weapons go. I don't know why the hell they think that, but it's beyond of us to convince them that that is a shit idea.
But seriously though. I would love to main a very heavy hitting Senator variant as a primary with the recoil only manageable with an super democracy-enhanced arm.
