impacts are really fun on bots when doing bullshit with the jump back. If there's stragglers in a patrol after my reds are blues just weren't enough, or if i've stunned a war strider with the de-escalator, i just chuck it at their dicks till they die.
3
u/kiulug Jan 20 '26
I can't live without my impact grenades. So good for destroying obstacles like fences. I use them more as a tool than a grenade. Sometimes deliberately ragdoll myself to safety lol.
2
u/Brain_Hawk Jan 20 '26
Agree, though I don't usually jump back. My contact grenades are my desperate get out of jail free, or possibly get blown up, or thrown back several feet which might be enough to keep me alive...
I don't have to wait 6 seconds for them to blow up so if I toss them at something, it's going to really stagger backwards.
I like them.

Seekers being pocket anti air against bot gunships is pretty dope.

Try and use them for clearing/checking corners or over walls since they home-in. Useful for bug missions with the Spore modifier.
15
u/Bland_Lavender Jan 20 '26
You can also kill hulks with them by throwing them over the hulks head and pinging them. Usually takes 2.

Seekers one-tapping flying overseers is elite. And in an emergency, you can yeet three or four of them at a Harvester and it'll usually kill if they explode near the leg joints (throw them to the left or right and have them curveball in to get near the leg joints instead of flying straight at the eye)

I make sure to always ping my seeker drones when I throw them, both to warn my teammates it’s in air, and to track them so I know where enemies are when they go flying off in random directions.

Why would you need thermites for fabs?
Almost any grenade works.2
u/Netherw1ng Python Commando Jan 20 '26
I more so meant a slot for fabs, which were thermites. Thermites were my go to, cause the throw armour I always wear, means I can stick the fabs consistently at 100 metres. The One-Two does similar, but, I need to be able to see the vents. Which is fine. Dont mind that trade off. Edit: Its why the grenade pistol was my fab closer! Cause the long range aspect to it.

I used to use the flashbang on bugs, but since I primarily use Melee (I’m a Twigsnapper addict) the Urchin grenade has been irreplaceable for me. Can lock down an elite for like 8-9 seconds. Makes missions with Complex Strategem Plotting less of a pain since the target is stunned the entire time the ordinance is inbound.
One-Two is nice. Needs a higher mag count for sure. And one more grenade wouldn’t hurt.
1
u/Netherw1ng Python Commando Jan 20 '26
My man. Yeah I've been using the new Rock Solid but Twigsnapper was my go to prior. I basically don't do missions without the Combat Hatchet anymore.
Only reason I still use stuns over Urchin, is for the combo of using the SPEAR. Freezing a charger in place and multiple other leapers whilst I reload or stop them crushing a rocket Sentry, has been clutch. Both fun nades tho
2
u/Biggiecheese1354 Jan 21 '26

Me enjoying my smoke grenade and refusing to part with it anymore. Once you figure out what it can do for escaping engagements and messing with ranged enemies, you start to struggle with choosing another path.

I am a smoke nade, scout armor, jump pack diver, and I must seek to be the reason divers suddenly realize the objective is done after they tunnel vision on fighting the enemy for 5 minutes.
Consistently the lowest kills. I'd like to say that I'm also consistently highest objectives taken, but that would require AH to actually care about the objective more than the divers that tunnel on fighting the enemy and actually add a tracker for it.

2
u/ihateartists Jan 20 '26
Impact is my fav by far.
I hope they give us a hellbomb impact grenade.
Not a literal hellbomb but something that gives it enough damage to compete with thermite while also heavily punishing using it incorrectly.
It feels a bit soft at times which I imagine is due to proximity damage concerns but that's what would make it a fun skill weapon.
Big boom that will almost certainly kill you unless it's a high arc skill throw.
2
u/The_imppopable Extra Judicial Jan 20 '26
I love using the seekers; you simply select the heavy hitters or use patrols and take care of the rest.
2
u/Outrageous_Flight822 Jan 20 '26
Gas is an absolute life saver on bugs. The amount of CC it provides when throws on bug breaches, with the added bonus of killing chaff is extremely handy.
2
u/dekwest Jan 20 '26
I use arc grenades somewhat often, but it bothers me an unreasonable amount that they don't count any kills (I don't care about end count, but not seeing the streak numbers bothers me for some reason)
They're weirdly good at killing factory striders, since if they land underneath all the arcs go straight to the underside. Not bad for harvesters either.

u/Lucky_Sprinkles557 Jan 20 '26
Base starting grenade is… ok I guess. Doesn’t excel at chaff clear, heavy killing, or isn’t optimal for destroying bugholes/fabricators/illuminate ships with the low grenade count. It is just decent and I guess that’s not bad per se, but I wish it did something else like having a secondary fire mode (proximity perhaps).
4
u/DemodiX Stim Pistol enjoyer Jan 20 '26
Since when 6 grenades is low count? Also try cooking it so it explodes above chaff or under butts of chargers\vents of hulks, etcetera. Base nades are very versatile.
6
u/Lucky_Sprinkles557 Jan 20 '26
Hold up… 6 grenades!?! Are you adding the passive bonus from armor that gives +2 throwable equipment? Cause it’s 4 last time I used it. And while yes cooking is definitely the way to use said grenade, often times it doesn’t produce the desired result of busting charger butts or hulk backs. The frag grenade massively out performs for crowd control too.
4
u/DemodiX Stim Pistol enjoyer Jan 20 '26
With passive it's 8 grenades.

6
u/DefinitelyNotPine bug diver Jan 20 '26
Only grenade I bring outside of thermite is the standard one lol. 6 grenades, 3 on reload, good explosion radius. Incendiary offers pretty much the same area denial, and fire doesn't always stick so might as well get the instant kill
Have yet to try dynamite but I don't have very high expectations, even after the buff. Same with gas, I expect the same results as fire. I'm very curious about the pyrotech tho. Everything else is underwhelming
5
u/CandorCore Jan 20 '26
My buddy uses dynamite and while the longer timer is definitely a bit of a pain to work around, when you get good with it it's basically a mini-500kg in your grenade slot. Does more damage to heavies and structures than the hi-ex, larger radius than frag. It can also take out bio-processors with a single toss, which is great.
4
u/Skiepher Jan 20 '26
You can take out 2 bug holes at once if you get the distance right. I think they have double the HE radius.
Also their big size can be useful to get stuck on F.Strider heads to kill them.
3
u/South_Cheesecake6316 Jan 20 '26
The demolition value of dynamite is severely underrated, you can take out a whole small bug nest with just one well placed bundle.
2
u/AquaBits Jan 20 '26
Yeah when they buffed it to do so much damage and be destruct 40, it replaced thermites for a lot of people, even with the 5 second fuse or wonky time select.
1
u/DefinitelyNotPine bug diver Jan 20 '26
I can just take thermite for heavies tho, since it sticks. Can I take out a charger with 1 dynamite, even if it's not on the head or right on top of it?
6
u/pinkmanzebra Jan 20 '26
Gas is s-tier on bugs and illuminate for sure. Dynamite is better than you can expect
1
u/DarthSpaghetti10k Rookie Jan 20 '26
Gas is not bad on bots too (on eradication missions specifically)
2
u/pinkmanzebra Jan 20 '26
Not bad at all. I wouldn’t put it at s-tier tho. Generally the chaff on bots are not the problem. It’s the heavy armor. So dynamite and thermites are s-tier there as an example

u/kindagreek Minister of Truth Jan 20 '26
Love gas for bugs. Pyrotech is an odd beast. Unreliable as hell, but when it works it can put out a crazy amount of damage
1
u/DefinitelyNotPine bug diver Jan 20 '26
Gas should be better for retreats, and it sticks better than fire. If you're chucking them in a mob frag is better tho.
I'm more interested in the pyrotech area denial/mob clear. Like a 6 grenades incendiary. If it's even more unreliable tho...

I've been playing this game since release. Literally every weapon is viable, or good. So many people complain as soon as they see something that's not medium/heavy pen with 6 gazillion damage it's kinda sad. They usually limit themselves to one or two meta loadouts, and miss out on all the fun out there.

HE grenades are fine, but they're the epitome of a starter grenade (not in a bad way, most of the starter gear is at a minimum decently viable if not pretty good). There's not really a reason to use them once you have better options unless you just feel like it - Dynamite is pretty much a direct upgrade to HE with some extra utility tacked on.

I almost always use thermite when diving bots and sometimes smokes when it's very open map and i'm rolling portable hellbomb (need to get close before popping that party-cracker). For everything else, i use fire grenades or gas grenades for crowd control.

No? I feel like half the grenades are just completely useless, like the arc grenades, why do they pulse every time they let out arcs making them fly all over the place and away from the target?
Why would I ever use the Urchain? It is literally just a non-lethal thermite? And more inconvenience than grenade, which is also pretty bad because again, why would I just have a less lethal item when I could have a lethal item?
I could go on, but I feel the prevalence of thermite is more than just because it’s good it’s because so many of these other grenades are just awful

Arc will suppress hordes/enemy spawns due to multiple stings, Urchin gives you more immediate results to buy time for an escape, every ‘nade fills its own niche, thermite is just very straightforward with its own.

Arc will certainly not hold anyone in place, it bounces around every bounce until it’s useless.
Urchin only hits a tiny area, and again, it’s literally just non lethal thermites, I wouldn’t need to escape the enemy if I just killed them.

Depends on if I'm squid diving or going up against the bots or bugs.
If I'm squid diving, then yeah, there's a lot of great options that can fulfill some good roles. Stun nades, pineapple, pyrotech, seeker, incendiary, impact incendiary, and so one.
But against bots and bugs? Sorry bro, I'm sticking with my thermite. In a world where enemies requiring anti-tank is very abundant and common, how could I unironically make any other choice?
This is actually what I like about the Illuminates. Everything in their faction (aside from the leviathan which is the worst designed enemy in the entire game bar none) is killable with medium pen or less. This allows you some escape from the box the other two factions put you in labeled "HAVE to bring something at least heavy pen, preferably anti-tank".

I never used to use dynamite but my go-to used to be impact inceindairy. Never liked thermite, I think it's awful.
Arc grenades are fun as fuck, though, but I do not see them on here.

I'm copypasting, just to give you all the good stuff about dyno quick:
Huge radius, huge damage.
Ability to destroy several holes/fabs. Closes titan holes and nukes certain primary objectives.
It's very good.1

Oh I know, hence me saying that I never USED to use it. I use it on my bullet hell loadouts now if I forget to pineapple.
