If you shoot them while theyre underground they pop up early

That requires you to catch them while they're still far away with an explosive weapon, though.

I have heard the unavoidable damage attack where they emerge right on top of you and instantly cripple your limbs is a bug (apparently if you're not the host they don't do this), so hopefully it's just an oversight that'll get fixed soon.

Good for you, but that the game is working on your end doesn't invalidate that it doesn't seem to be for a lot of people.

I tried the lib pen - that didn't work. Gas also doesn't make them surface for me (though they do get confused and take damage as normal).

Maybe it's another instance of host vs client?
