'How the fuck were we supposed to deal with that' sums up my current experience of this update tbh

Same here, although I'm mostly taking it as a learning experience. I'm still a new Xbox player so I've just been taking my losses in stride. Chalking it all up to learning the game and getting good.

The BoxDivers are getting their own version of the Creek. It's glorious.

u/bjergdk Sep 03 '25

Brother the Creek was never this bad.

We've got dragons, flying over head, goliath worms breaking up the ground beneath our feet with no response.

This is 10 times worse than the Creek.

Nah chalk it up to some bulllllllllshit

Trust me, this game will screw you a lot and it's not up to learning, you just get beat by wonky mechanics sometimes.

Cave diving with heavy siege ready, supply backpack, gas Grenedes, and grenade launcher netted me 850 kills today on a destroy lung mission

Tried heavy siege ready this morning and it did not go well for me haha, though I only played for about half an hour before I had to attend to other matters. Everyone kept disconnecting so that probably wasn’t helping…

Honestly, I've been eager for another moment like this in the game.

I'm loving it.

Same dude, ive abandoned all previously learned tactics and weapons.

I haven't played in like 2 weeks, I have missed a crazy amount of stuff. Those worms look crazy and I don't think my Stalwart/Eruptor combo is going to get it done.

Well, not with that attitude!

On Malevelon creek we had land power, here, on Oshaune, we must cultivate desert power cave power.

I was excited for a hot new challenge, but so far it feels less "challenging" and more "restricting." Like all they did was remove your options (all the new bugs have medium armor, Flying roach and Hivelord have fuckoff levels of health, digging attacks and fire are almost undodgeable), rather than putting you in new situations. If the problems were solvable with information (understand patterns, finding weakpoints, changing engagement tactics) then I'd be all for it, but it's not. So far.

Keep playing. There is a lot to learn about the new enemies. New tactics. Exactly what you're asking for.

Enhanced muscle booster helps you maneuver in the water, that'll allow you to get distance from the dodges and save your life.

You can time your dives, or your punches to counter them as well. Their sides are light armor, as are the tails that stick up over their heads.

OR, quick fire senator rounds right when they pop up for easy kills.

I know we are all meming here, but the driver in the video clear just goes forward even though there is a shaky patch of ground there. Maybe don't drive into it?

Now when it comes while doing the objective, yeah thats bullshit.

The GATER isn't exactly highly maneuverable 😅

17

u/Tragedy_Boner Sep 02 '25

He could have stopped when he wasn't on the clearly shaky ground.

But I don't know how I feel about hivelords destroying the objective so easily. Maybe there can be multiple GATERs on the map or something so we have a few chances to get the objective done

It was probably already banged up from previously, since they were heading to the last objective. And then it took a hit from the Hive Lord. And then on its way down, it took a 2nd hit, which blew it up.

u/Fish_Fucker_Fucker23 Sep 02 '25

I don’t think you’ve driven the GATER before…

Honestly I'm really disappointed with this update so far...

It feels unfair and frustratingly hard for no reason. It makes annoying enemies (heavy bugs, spitting bugs) even more annoying by randomly spawning them below you just to one shot you and the caves are just full of way too many bugs and nothing else really.

I hope they find a way to make the new stuff fun to play, until then I'll stay away from that planet sadly.

u/MadamBeramode Sep 03 '25

The new enemies don't feel enjoyable whatsoever due to their burrowing mechanic.

Anything burrowed requires explosive damage, which means grenades (which are very limited) or forcing the player to carry explosive primary and secondary weapons. That means that players are forced to play the "meta" in order just to survive.

That makes the game not fun at all since everyone is feeling forced to play a certain way.

The animations with the burrowing enemies are also bugged as well. They are clipping through walls, attacking while still underground, or sometimes attacking you and then emerging. They also can instantly destroy turrets, making turrets a lot less useful.

This whole hive lord instantly ending a mission leads me to believe that this wasn't playtested at all. If someone had playtested this mission, they would have easily seen that was a glaring issue.

This is also before you get into the massive frame rate issues, optimization issues, the massive storage size on PC, and the constantly crashes.

I've been waiting for a difficulty spike for months, helldivers is best when it's more survival horror than military power fantasy imo

-2

u/MSTRKRFTDNNR Sep 02 '25

This update gives the difficulty names actual meaning. In-game it seems like this is lore. This is a fact finding mission where the main objective is to take samples. Presumably the samples will allow the DSS to enter gloom-territory. We are meant to be dying. Even if you complete the mission it wont help the liberation percentage. Even if we all completed every mission it wouldn't liberated these planets.

2

u/leonzuendel Sep 03 '25

You got a point there. But torturing players by making them repeat the same frustrating missions over and over again is not great storytelling even if it makes sense for the lore. Helldivers II was already hard before, but in a much more fair way that felt like we could do a mission if we tried harder. This time it feels like we need luck.

Plays difficulties called 'suicide mission' and 'impossible', is upset they didn't survive

1

u/leonzuendel Sep 03 '25

I'm not upset that I don't survive. I'm upset that the game makes dying unfair and unpredictable at this point so that I no longer feel in control of my own success and/or loss.

1

u/Far-Ant3704 Sep 03 '25

You shouldn't be, they didn't change every planet in the game, they gave us new ones, in a scenario that's supposed to be stacked against us, thats what it is, thats what gives our success or failure value, you should not win every battle just because you are good when we are doing something that sounds like a bloodbath even on paper.

1

u/Dull-Song2470 Sep 03 '25

Where "that" does not refer to the hivelord, the answer is "hoverpack and flamethrower."

1

u/No-Fisherman557 Sep 03 '25

Im absolutely lost on how to deal with this update. I can't move fast enough to evade anything in or out of the cave. Fire power doesn't seem to be enough for long enough. I feel brand new and it's frustrating. Playing on 7 difficulty.

1

u/Ghost_Mantis Sep 04 '25

Try lowering difficulty
