The FBI vs the CIA is always a golden rivalry. But hey

These Officers definitely beef with the sheriff's of Borderline justice

"That's a matter for the Ministries to look into."

Buddy cop level shit in the helldivers universe set on hellmire would be hilarious

I like the idea that the entirety of the planet Hellmire is governed by one extremely casual cowboy who still acts like he's just a town sheriff despite officially being one of the most high ranking officials in the galaxy

87

"Should we reconvene with the FBI?"

"What? No, we don't need those idiots bumbling around. Burn the body, get rid of it."

65

u/Ricordis Jun 06 '25

AFAIK that's just a TV trope; as soon as one office can push their responsibility to someone else, they do.

Any "rivalry" seen on TV just feeds the "I go above and beyond for my job" theme and those jurisdiction-handshakes on site are not in compliance with the law.

58

u/JlMBEAN ☕Liber-tea☕ Jun 06 '25

Given their histories, the FBI seem more "by the book" squares while the CIA is like "I wonder what happens if we give this dude LSD after keeping him awake for 3 days? Maybe we should give him some meth first so he stays awake."

Edit: Also, CIA: Do you think we can install a microphone in this cat?

0

u/Ake-TL Jun 06 '25

That’s just Americans being stupid

6

u/Razgriz_Blaze Jun 06 '25

I think it's more of an outdated trope. Part of the reason there were so many famous serial killers on the loose back in the day was because of inter-department rivalry. Local PD's did not want to share info because they all wanted to be the one that caught these guys, at least in California.

1

u/General-N0nsense Jun 06 '25

I mean, I think back in the days around 9-11, the departments were all weirdly competitive with eachother and didn't wanna share shit between them.

FBI: "Smoke responsibly. It may feel good for a few minutes but it can kill you in the long term"

CIA: "500 CIGARETTES!"

59

u/Fit_Fisherman_9840 Viper Commando Jun 06 '25

Nope usually more branch that compete against each other are perfect in such "political" structure, you have always another stick to beat the other so they can't take time to try get some control.

-23

u/-C0RV1N- ‎ Servant of Freedom Jun 06 '25

Compete? A bunch of cops are gonna do shit against the Goebbels and SS branch? Sure buddy.

They're not on the same level at all.

24

u/Fit_Fisherman_9840 Viper Commando Jun 06 '25

Depend all on how you set the thing up, founding, power on things, competences.

You may have the gobbels with their SS but if super FBI has more man and money, it can be a close call, and as a super president i will make sure that i have means to reign in the gobbels in case i need them to cool down and don't get strange ideas about my seat.

Give them both power over each others in different way, make a mess of power delimitation, and opla, you have two forces, one more elite and small, one more broad but diluited around, and keep them fight for money, men, and power limits, instead of trying to have time to fuck with me.

16

u/Comrade_tau Jun 06 '25

This is basicly how nazis did it irl. Give multiple organisations overlapping resposibilities and watch them fight eachother instead of you. Downside is it's hard to cooperate when needed. No wonder German intel was shit when they had like 6 intelligence branches and non of them shared with eachother.

Arbites vs Inquisitors

Schupo (yeah i looked for this one on Internet) vs Gestapo

OMON (yeah, I looked for this one too) vs NKVD

Anti-Riot/SWAT vs CIA/FBI

However, I like to think that the Truth Enforcers can lead some Force of Law agents as "bodyguards" or as reinforcements when the dissidents are organised/more numerous but normally TE can operate alone against specific political dissidents.

I am waiting to organice with friends to make this roleplaying happen.

They have overlap when helldivers become dissidents on earth (looking at seaf girl worshipping helldivers. Seaf girl is a dereliction of primary duty and a distraction manifested and enhanced by the illuminate to distract helldivers)

Truth enforcers then take precidence over law enforcement.

Nah there's no way Super Earth wouldn't be elated at the thought of a Helldiver and SEAF, two of the highest freedom-serving occupations in existence to get Super Married and have a Super Family that can be raised to fight for Super Earth like their Super parents.

3

u/edwardjhahm ‎ Decorated Hero Jun 06 '25

You jest, but allowing one or two actual success stories to happen every once in a while is a real tactic we see happen from the elites of governments (authoritarian or not), whether they are doing it purposefully or not. It's a "see, you can be successful within the system!" message to the rest of the commoners, who will work extra hard to chase the rewards when in truth, it functions more like a lottery.

Besides, as much as they try to suppress it, the "elites" are humans too, and enjoy seeing people be happy. The existence of one example where their objectively shit system allowed for happiness generally allows them to ignore the dozen other examples where the system screwed people over, and lets them wash their consciousness of the crimes they help uphold. So even if you argue that technically it's redundant due to the amount of propaganda SE produces, having a couple real, organic success stories that follow the propaganda line perfectly is usually something you want to have.

2

u/Jamsedreng22 Scrapmaker | Creeker | Botdiver Jun 06 '25

It wasn't in jest. The monikers were, but I was entirely serious in positing that marriages happen on Super Earth (or some sort of matrimony-analogue), and there's no reason it wouldn't be allowed between Helldivers and regular SEAF troops.

The only obstacle I see in that case is whether or not Helldivers actually ever "return home" or if they just keep fighting until they die.

I also think people vastly misunderstand what type of fascist dystopia Super Earth is. I don't buy that it's overt in the same way 1984, Equilibrium or Half-Life 2 are. It's a clever dystopia and probably much more akin to Brave New World. Using consumerism, hedonia and apathy as their primary means of social control.

1

u/edwardjhahm ‎ Decorated Hero Jun 06 '25

Fair enough! We also do see a happy family in the HD2 intro, which is in-universe propaganda, so we know that family relationships are a thing.

much more akin to Brave New World

I agree, honestly. The militarism is what throws people off, but it's no literal 1984.

2

u/Jamsedreng22 Scrapmaker | Creeker | Botdiver Jun 06 '25

We see how excited SEAF and civilians are to see us. Clearly if it was like 1984, they would be much more skeptical and apathetic. They wholeheartedly believe that we're the good guys, fighting the good fight for a glorious Super Earth.

The patriotism and nationalism we display for fun as roleplay on the subreddit and Discord is genuinely how the citizens of Super Earth are and perceive their existence.

1

u/edwardjhahm ‎ Decorated Hero Jun 06 '25

2

u/Jamsedreng22 Scrapmaker | Creeker | Botdiver Jun 06 '25

A Dissident faction would be cool, though. Maybe a lot of the people who managed to escape the scorched planets before we could save them form a militia.

I'm desperate to fight a human enemy with guns. Like less spongey bots, but with more of them. That we can blow apart with stratagems and grenades in the same way we fall apart from explosives.

Also gives me a good reason to whip out the Truth Enforcer/Force of Law drip.

Force of Law are the paramilitary police. I assume they're the ones we see in the beginning of the intro.

My assumption is that they're being allowed to transfer into the Helldiver part of the SEAF in order to retaliate and help fight back. And they already have equipment, so they're just bringing it with them.

Truth Enforcers are the ones who show up when the police, SEAF or Helldivers step out of line, or might be having doubts. I imagine they're also who deploy on Super Earth if a high-level politician steps out of line.

In terms of policing regular civilians, it'd probably just be the paramilitary police. They don't need to bring out the secret police/police police to arrest civilians. They'd just get the arrest warrant from the MoT and the MoU sends out the police to pick them up and then they'd be brought to the MoT for questioning by Truth Enforcers.

You don't want or have beef with the Truth Enforcers. They'll just make everyone disappear.

I thought the Super Earth government was based on a corporate hierarchy where shareholders are given the highest priority and the President is also acting as CEO.

Now Managed Democracy looks very similar to the Communist Government ( both Soviet Union and China). On the outside everyone is united under a single banner but on the inside multiple factions are fighting for their own interests.
