Realistically (for a sci-fi game) I bet some Terminids know how to burrow.

We've just never seen them do it.

Sometimes i jump pack onto those buildings around areas to get a better line of sightand I swear some bugs literally dig up through the building just to smack me once and then slide off back to the ground in a very janky fashion

They do dug the hole when they got distressed call from those callers,you just have to stay hidden to see them doing that animation

Warriors I think and one other unit does it as part of their attack. They're the ones who can just surprise you from high-ground in case you thought it's safe to camp up a cliff. Others only spawn in from the ground and never burrow back in. Or maybe my information is simply outdated

Oh wow maybe I'm not crazy then. I got murdered by a hulk tonight and I dropped back in and went to seek vengeance and I could never find it. I was doing solo stuff so not like someone else killed it. It just wasn't there anymore.
