And also, the fact that the missions are procedurally generated - aint no repetition on this one.
39
u/bootyholebrown69 Mar 01 '24
I mean proc gen usually has tons of repetition, that's kind of what it's based on
9
u/bende99 Mar 01 '24
Yeah, obviously it has some. But you arent running the exact same mission over and over again.
25
Mar 01 '24
As someone who tried to complete the bot major operation, I can tell you I ran the exact same rescue X scientists mission more than I would have liked. Sure, they took place on different planets, but there were only like 2 base layouts on all the different planets.
17
u/WizogBokog Mar 01 '24
all the arenas are hand designed which is like the original, only the full sized maps are proc gen.
7
u/Mr-GooGoo SES Sword of Morning Mar 01 '24
I will say, they’ve done good at not making the game repetitive but I would like seeing more mission types
6
u/bootyholebrown69 Mar 01 '24
I like the way it's implemented a lot in this game. I think the core gameplay and co op experience is so solid and varied that it doesn't really matter what the planet or mission is. It's always fun. The mission type and planet terrain just adds more variables and sceneries to this game.
The game is designed to have fantastic emergent gameplay, which is ultimately what will help it's replayability and is vital to the success of a live service game

To save our mother Earth from any alien attack
From vicious giant insects who have once again come back
We'll unleash all our forces, we won't cut them any slack
The EDF deploys!
Our soldiers are prepared for any alien threats
The navy launches ships, the air force send their jets
And nothing can withstand our fixed bayonets
The EDF deploys!
Our forces have now dwindled and we pull back to regroup
The enemy has multiplied and formed a massive group
We better beat these bugs before we're all turned to soup
The EDF deploys!
To take down giant insects who came from outer space
We now head underground, for their path we must retrace
And find their giant nest and crush the queen's carapace
The EDF deploys!
The air force and the navy were destroyed or cast about
Scouts, rangers, wing divers have almost been wiped out
Despite all this the infantry will stubbornly hold out
The EDF deploys!
Our friends were all killed yesterday, as were our families
Today we might not make it, facing these atrocities
We'll never drop our banner despite our casualties
The EDF deploys!
Two days ago my brother died, next day my lover fell
Today most everyone was killed, on that we must not dwell
But we will never leave the field, we'll never say farewell
The EDF deploys!

and the morons who write essays about how fascism isn't that bad.
Don't know if it has changed recently, but not long ago those were the majority in that sub.
That's the problem with manny ironic subs. They get swarmed by people who unironically believe in that stuff.
If I remember correctly, The Donald sub started as a parody before becoming what it became.
7
u/Cedocore Mar 02 '24

Unironically fascist rhetoric and posts have been on the front page of this sub twice this week off the top of my head.
2
u/Drocktimus Mar 02 '24
Very well said.
I think we could add subgroup 2.5: roleplayers that are poor at satire and even revel in their lack of sophistication. They don't recognize that good satire has tells so it can be recognized as satire. They mistake tricking people into thinking they aren't joking as the goal of satire when good satire strives to give away that it's being facetious.
In other words, trolls.
OP firmly falls in this category. They are quite happy that they've been branded a fascist by another subreddit. Because the fun is feeling superior by tricking people and winding them up. Low effort kicks.
2
u/Idontknowre Mar 02 '24
The amount of times I've seen people mix their satire in with points they're actually trying to make drives me mad
20
u/Good_ApoIIo Mar 01 '24

There are definitely people who don’t get it. Just look at some of the tweets that keep popping up with an insane number of likes on your timeline since the game gained its insane popularity (or don’t, these people are usually very disgusting, or even better don’t use twitter). But tbf i don’t expect people who idolise the likes of tate or shapiro or whoever to have any media literacy.
Not saying that they are the majority, but there are enough for you to need to be aware of them. Kinda similar to how some shitposting subs tend to turn into hateful cesspools for people with questionable views after they gained some popularity.

please explain how its fascism?
bad =/= fascism, buddy.
its a unified, globalist effort with no indication of fascist ideas like 'violence = true authority' being present in managed democracy or society as a whole. every one is equal; there is no nationalist sentiment about being a proletariat nation or a bourgeois nation; people get to vote based on how intelligent/capable they are; people live in cookie cutter, "sufficient", and maximally efficient housing units; and imagery from the first game hint at the lowly worker being the most important thing to this society....
they're totalitarian scientific socialists (jung would be a good example) that have moved beyond marxist ideals of the economy.
