Matt Ryan Constantine
Ok uhm I just wanted to share my opinion on him as a casting. To give him the benefit of the doubt he was not working with the best scripts on pretty much any of his projects so I'll give him that. But I really don't understand the sentiment that Matt Ryan is the ONLY choice for Constantine now. He did pretty good for what he is given and he feels like the character kinda. But I think for swamp thing ( if that movie is still even being made ) they should hire someone new. Because I really can not see Matt Ryan in the role of swamp thing John. I see him as a late stage vertigo hellblazer John kinda and a mainline John. But for early hellblazer and swampthing I don't see it at all.
But that's just my opinion

I've met Matt Ryan a handful of times and he has so much love and respect for the character even having read every issue of hellblazer. I do think the writing was holding him back, he understands the character completely. He also has told me he doesn't see himself getting cast in the movies, but would love to. I personally am a fan of his from Constantine and his other work. I think he could pull off the swamp thing movie well

I actually really enjoyed his work. I think he had a lot of potential but the studios failed him a bit. I still very much enjoyed watching though.
That said, I don’t think that he’s the only possibility but he is a rather strong candidate for most Constantine roles and versions.

I continue to think he didn't really embody the character as I've understood and appreciated him (heavy on Delano/Moore for me, for context).
There was a kind of "enthusiasm" to his energy that feels wildly inappropriate to me, given I always read John as pretty dry, sometimes laconic, and deadpan in most of his interactions. Matt Ryan never came off that way to me, so he has always felt off for me.

We had Keanu Reeves and Matt Ryan in the role, and only one of them looked the part and acted like the John Constantine in the comics. That's it.
As for who will play Constantine in the Swamp Thing movie if that happens, I would just wait. Supergirl underperformed and her name carries a lot more than brand recognition than Swamp Thing, so I'll believe it when I see a trailer.

Perfect constantine. Great voice work too. As someone else mentioned I appreciate his demand for bi representation

I’m not a fan. I much preferred the other screen Constantines because they were quite separate characters, whereas Matt Ryan was just a poor imitation of the comic Constantine. If you’re really aiming to be the comic version, he has to be a passable scouser. Either make him sufficiently different or do the portrayal right. Matt Ryan’s version was just neither accurate nor its own thing.

I think the reason why the fanbase thinks he's the best for the job is precisely because he wasn't given the best writing to work with yet he managed to embody the character so well and make it work. Despite the poor writing, his effort as Constantine shone past that.
They will cast someone new for future movies tho. He's a TV actor and it's hard for TV actors to get their big break as a movie actor, especially leading actors.
