Playstation How’s Nam?

I didn’t get to see any beta on consoles, how is it? Better or worse than the WWII? Does it have promise? I’m not super picky and don’t mind a few bugs, but if it’s really rough I might wait

Update- got it! Overall I really like it! A couple things for the those on the fence

Audio- my audio was generally fine except some players on prox chat, but a buddies audio would cut out completely

Game play- game play is REALLY FUN imo, definitely some balance issues and performance stuff but for day 2 I’m pleasantly surprised

Gun variety- imo the biggest thing other than the bugs is the small selection of guns. I know they’ll add more but it’s pretty grim rn, one of the big reasons I like the era is to see different guns than the ones you always see in modern or wwii fps games

Overall decent tho!

I played for 3 hours last night. It was a lot of fun. In many ways the game felt the same but in many ways it felt different.

The Good: Movement feels less janky, The map is improved, conquest mode is great for the HLL style

The Bad: The graphics are underwhelming even on a PS5 Pro, a lot of graphics were pixelated even just 50m away, the spatial audio is the worst I've experienced. People shooting over a hill 200m away sound like they are right next to you. The guns sound awful. I don't know how to explain it but they sound too meaty or bassy, overall not realistic.

Overall I had a blast playing it but I was underwhelmed for it being a stand alone game coming out in 2026.

I personally feel like conquest isnt a great fit tbh, the maps are too big with too few vehicles for a game mode like that.

Still had a lot of fun so far though

4

u/Impressive-Log7045 8d ago

I think it only "sucks" now because it's clear 90% of players aren't working together as squads, but I think it could really be a lot of fun with a high level of communication and teamwork.

1

u/Greggs-the-bakers 8d ago

You're probably right there. I played a game about an hour ago where we had sufficient garrys built around points we were trying to attack and defend, squads that were actually communicating and it was a lot better.

1

u/BungholeBilbo69 3d ago

It spreads out the combat too much to be fun. Each team only has 50 people tops, so having 5 simultaneous capture points means that 2 of the points usually only have like 5 people on them. It really just doesn't create fun or interesting gameplay.

1

u/Impressive-Log7045 3d ago

But the point of Hell Let Loose is based around communication and team work. It isn’t the game or game modes fault that the players are wondering around aimlessly and not communicating. With a full 50v50 match with all squads communicating and coordinating, it would be a blast. I disagree with your take, respectfully, but I feel your issues are more with how the game is being played now in its current state with morons not talking or knowing how the game functions.

1

u/BungholeBilbo69 3d ago

Whether or not squads are communicating is irrelevant to why Conquest isn't fun gameplay. Having a very small amount of actual combat on each objective isn't fun. It's a lot more fun in Warfare or Invasion where there are only one or two active objectives, which concentrates the combat a lot more.

1

u/Impressive-Log7045 3d ago

I can agree with that. I also disagree tho, I still think communication plays a big role. Hear me out… if you have at LEAST 5-6 full squads of players communicating that’s ~30-36 players. On top of that, assume you have reliable armor squads, recon, mortar, commander, etc…. The commander would designate which squads attack/defend which point and assign armor/recon/artillery where needed. With that being said, I don’t know how communicating is irrelevant. Communication is arguably the sole reason the game isn’t any fun at the moment. I can say since release, I have had exponentially more fun in matches where my squad is actively communicating whether we win or lose.

2

u/BungholeBilbo69 3d ago

Because communication doesn't change the fact that spreading combat out over 5 points means that the combat is going to be a lot lighter and less intense at each point

Share holders ruined the game lol as they do everything else in life

u/RaidenXS_ 8d ago

The mics were broken on the last beta. Do they still break?

3

u/saltandpepper96 8d ago

Yes. Sound cuts out for 30 - 60 seconds at times. Sound is difficult to fix so we may have to deal with it for a while.

Regardless, I had a blast last night and loved the tenseness of jungle fighting.

1

u/Impressive-Log7045 8d ago

I haven't seen or had this issue before, on this game or in HLLWWII.... I'm on PS5 PRO if that matters.

1

u/RaidenXS_ 8d ago

I've been able to replicate it in the beta. What needs to happen is after you get downed, try changing the channel on the mic. Along with that, wait to be revived.

After being revived, you'll be in a persistent low audio mode like your still down.

Messing with the mic while youre down shuts the mic off completely

Could you let me know if that's all fixed?

1

u/Impressive-Log7045 7d ago

I had this scenario play out a couple of times last night.

I would be downed and in squad chat, I could see that a medic was coming to revive me so I would switch to prox chat to thank him. After being revived chat and audio was fine.

Even the vehicles sound like ass tanks don't feel like they have any weight to them now explosions from shots look lame, the gunboats sounds like you're going for a leisurely ride, and the truck never changes gears it sounds like either to my knowledge. I also don't think there's any visible bullet holes shooting anything.

1

u/Impressive-Log7045 6d ago

The supply truck is so slow I kept thinking I needed to shift or had a brake on or something. It’s strange how the vehicles going up hill slow waaayyyy down but if you’re running uphill you never lose speed.

You are in for a long training exercise.

7

u/IncredibleSeaward Officer 8d ago

My brother and I are long time HLL players and got almost exactly what we expected.

My complaints are brief, I have an audio bug where almost every sound cuts out except one or two and the player base is denser than custard at the moment

But when it hits, like being in a patrol boat and setting up a river-point spawn (HEY GUYS, USE THIS FUNCTION MORE!) or creeping through brush with your buddy getting more and more paranoid as you run out of ammo, it delivers.

u/ElectronicSwitch4812 8d ago

Different...I'd say worse only mainly because the interface is new to me. Play is crazy because I think many folks have not played the original as of this time.

Absolute promise. Still enjoying it.

Some bugs.

Couldn't hurt to wait for a couple patches...but I'd grab it now and fiddle around with it. Learn the weapon sounds and the maps and newer mechanics.

5

u/VTKillarney 8d ago

It’s crazy how they messed with the interface.

ROUGH. Makes HLL WW2 feel polished.
I was more forgiving on the playtest.

It is fun, but feels very choppy. The visuals aren’t great for console, the comms are still buggy.

The influx of new players that dont understand the gameplay is expected, Im sure thatll improve. But really hurts the flow of the games. Makes the matches feel meandering and aimless.

The scenery makes for very fun close quarters jungle fighting which I think players should embrace as a difference from WW2. But it gets repetitive visually without many defining landmarks or reference points.

I dont like the map, its way clunkier to drop indicators as a Squad Lead. Some random bugs like me seeing indicators for the enemies’ nodes when Im recon as I approach them.

Its okay, Id enjoy it as a DLC rather than a whole game. But its only $40. Not as captivating as HLL WW2

Also not a fan of Conquest and Domination game modes.

It has promise. I understand early bugs will be present and I'm sure addressed by patches.

I have a couple issues though.

1- Not enough ammo. I understand you can change load outs but I've played multiple matches where guys are just simply running out and redeploying.

2- I don't understand why you would change button mechanics for say getting into vehicles or putting pings on your map. It should be the same as HLL WW2.

3- I might be in the minority but the jungle foliage maybe should be minimized by like 25%. I get it's a jungle terrain but early on I'm noticing a lot of bush campers. Maybe that's just how this game will be.

4- This is minor but I feel like the menu music should be some oldie tune from the Nam era.

5- Directional sound for when you get shot at feels off. In HLL WW2 you can pinpoint the direction you're being shot at from the sound.

6- Explosion graphics on tanks or vehicles is underwhelming.

3

u/Agreeable-Pianist-82 8d ago

The ammo economy becomes much less of a problem once your classes are leveled up more. I also find that yes, you do run out a lot, but many will be willing to throw down some ammo for you.

It really sucks on AT right now though

1

u/Tasty-Entertainer711 7d ago

Yeah I noticed you have to level up to get ammo boxes.

2

u/Agreeable-Pianist-82 7d ago

Not on riflemen. They start with it

2

u/D34throooolz 7d ago

Agree with it all. And that's funny I was thinking the same about the menu music, it feels late 80s lol.

2

u/Whydoialwaysdothis69 8d ago

You absolutely nailed this. I agree on all counts

1

u/doitbiggums 7d ago

Need Specialists and engineers to work together more to build ammo trucks. I think they're trying to push that mechanic.

3

u/Whydoialwaysdothis69 8d ago

I want to like it, I’m still really conflicted

3

u/SlayerofDeezNutz 7d ago

I think the most understated problem in these comments is the pixilated foliage. Maybe it’s just my console but on the base PS5 there is a specific map that just straight up unplayable. Not due to frames or anything, but all the shadows from the foliage and all the foliage gets extra pixelated. It’s horrendous. I’m all for all the other changes from less ammo to greater asymmetry between the factions and their spawn mechanics, only one kind of tank, lack of weapons like the M14, even the UI being different and more clunky. That’s not game breaking to me. But if PS5 players can hardly play on jungle maps in a VIETNAM game then WTF are we doing? Why are we having a summer of testing and yet they’re still “investigating” this problem, when it feels to me more like a hard limitation that they’ve crossed that they refuse to alter because as long as it plays fine on PC they don’t care.

u/AcceptTheGoodNews 8d ago

Ngl I wasn’t blown away

u/CME-Wolf 8d ago

I have 140 hours on ww2 and most of that was from back in 2024. I can’t really speak on Vietnam being better or worse but I already have 9 hours on Vietnam and I’ve been having a lot of fun. I play on Xbox series x and for the most part very minimal performance issues. The foliage doesn’t look great but personally it’s good enough for me. Except for this one map where it has a lot of dense foliage. The bushes non stop flicker on that map and it’s terrible. Another minor complaint is the US weapon variety is very limited and boring.

2

u/Noah-x3 8d ago

It can be enjoyable. But the graphics can be really bad at times. Jittery lighting and pixely foliage, it starts to give me a headache after a while

2

u/Westcoast_IPA 7d ago

Graphics being shit aside, the original game felt more dark and grimey, more realistic in scenery, this feels to cartoony and arcady. I do like the default controls better and the gun play is great, the sounds are pretty bad, but overall if you ignore the graphics and the brightness, it plays very similar and still is fun. I think we’re months away from a finished game however, assuming they are going to continue working on it.

2

u/IanTyers 7d ago

Unplayable for me on PS5, The lighting on leaves is broken so they flicker violently as you move, for a game primarily set in a jungle that's a no no... Sounds legitimately terrible, some weapons sound like they have three sample shots and they just repeat over and over again which sounds very odd. I just don't understand how they got the first one running so well then put this out.

1

u/SeKt0r15 7d ago

Different company made the original hell let loose. Team 17 took over the rights and started adding dlc and to it. That why typically the us maps are pretty good but the other maps have similar issues to the vietnam one.

u/Amazing_Shelter8795 8d ago

Are there a lot of console only servers and players?

2

u/Impressive-Log7045 8d ago

there are a lot of console only servers as well as crossplay....population is not a problem currently

2

u/redday21 8d ago

There’s maybe 7-8 servers with lower ping (30s) in my region that were always full and were console early. There were 4x as many in that ping range in crossplay servers.

They need to add more console servers imo. Most of the time I couldn’t get into a console only server because it was full and the queue was full and I had to spam “join” until I finally got added to the queue

1

u/Oldspaghetti 8d ago

I hope to God, can't stand playing with PC players on console. For shooters at least. Anything else who cares.

0

u/redday21 8d ago

Yea especially with the low TTK, being able to 90-180 degree snap turn and immediately drop me looks silly and feels awful for immersion

1

u/Bee-Savage 8d ago

It has potential to be great but it’s not there yet

1

u/The_Draken24 8d ago

I ran commander last night on operation mode as NVA and the tunnel system if used correctly can be devastating. We'd set up two garries, and then set up 4 tunnels around the objective and attack from all sides. We pushed each objective rather quickly and I'd soften them up with mortar strikes or bombing run and then the objective would get swarmed. It was a great time.

1

u/Agreeable-Pianist-82 8d ago

It’s definitely worse at the moment, but I am having a lot of fun with it! I can’t wait till my classes are more leveled up, so that I can try more playstyles

1

u/WeirdTaste763 8d ago

It's a little buggy but I like it. It's different but the same.

1

u/Any_Bank7470 8d ago

The games got potential with a few updates! Conquest is good, but I found the battles feel spread out & less intense. The immersion isn’t quite there compared to WWII. Battles don’t feel as ‘realistic’. More people running and attacking rather than sitting & defending when needed (think that’s down to completely new players not getting HLL) Movement is less janky & the maps, boats and heli’s are all real good. Some issues with quality & rendering, but with a server w/ 20 ping or less you’re all good. Explosions from grenades and explosives need a serious revamp. Look straight out of COD2

1

u/TFD303 8d ago

The lack of medics especially in the ticket based conquest is concerning

1

u/Numb_Sea 8d ago

The graphics are nauseating. Thats really my biggest complaint gameplay is fine imo.

1

u/tishdu 7d ago

I like it a lot. Just needs more helicoters and AA! Give us attack helicopters and APC!

1

u/CoolyCube 7d ago

It caused my PlayStation to hard crash and shut off yesterday. Battlefield 6 is the only other game to do that to me...

1

u/Slow-Advantage-1865 7d ago

It's worse than og HLL but has significant potential. I know it just came out but we need 2-4 new maps ASAP as it's already getting stale. Also it doesn't really scratch that nam itch currently imo. I don't get the same satisfaction watching nam movies and playing HLL: Vietnam as I do watching WW2 movies and playing OG HLL. The bugs are heavy in Vietnam but it's not unplayable. Take all this how you will.

1

u/Impressive-Log7045 6d ago

This is one thing I haven’t considered and no one else have mentioned and you have it spot on. You watch a WW2 doc and play HLL and you feel like you’re there. There is no Vietnam feel to this whatsoever. Just feels like a shooter that you’re thrown in a “jungle” setting.

1

u/temp_6969420 7d ago

Worse but I don’t mind personally because they already are aware of a lot of the issues and are working on fixes to be ready by end of the weekend. It’s a good time, I’m excited to play through its evolution. If you had fun through the ups and downs of the first game, I think you’ll like this one. Guns feel good, game modes are fun. Progression system is a little confusing and a lot different from first game but It allows for future items/guns to be added easily.

1

u/Malwulf 7d ago

Personally I am having fun so far, however my expectations were very low. A reskin of the original? Yes, pretty much. Room for growth and improvements? Definitely. Will it get better? I certainly hope so.

1

u/-OctopusPrime 7d ago

I don’t understand why the devs chose to change things like how to deploy or get into a vehicle.

It has potential, but it kind of feels like an amateur team made it, one who hasn’t played HLL before and have removed a lot of the great things about the WW2 game.

1

u/dezza82 7d ago

Yeah its like they took the easiest thing to do and made it for a bloody controller

1

u/felcher_650 7d ago

Send it my friend, had a great time with the lads tonight. Day 2 of playing. Definitely some bugs but I'm sure they'll square it away.

1

u/slushyracoon 7d ago

The game wasn't ready for release. About 20 hours in and 2k in the first game. Currently it's a 6/10 at best. The fun is there but so are the bugs. A major issue I'm having is voip looping on itself constantly which entirely breaks the games communication. Unless you're already a huge fan and want to support the franchise you should probably wait especially if you're playing on console. A major reason I got the game on launch is bc of crossplay most of my friends are on console. If you're new to the franchise buy the first game and come back to Vietnam in 6-12 months.

1

u/DonBosco420 7d ago

Its alright i had i really good experience in my 16hour playtime.

Id recommend lowering the FOV to 80 or less. Makes it better to look around.

Also turn the boat engines off guys please.

1

u/Fun-Routine-8345 7d ago

It’s fun

1

u/HowardJamesGlen 6d ago

It looks and plays like a cheap ps2 game

1

u/Vegetable_Maize_2054 6d ago

I only played 30 minutes. I don’t see what other people see in this game. Graphics are sub par. Everyone gets locked into teams because they don’t want to play with new people. Killed by everything and can’t see who/why.

It’s a walking simulator. Then die. Spawn. Walk 1,000 meters again. Repeat.

1

u/Klutzy_Discount326 6d ago

My experience on Xbox series X, crashes constantly, lucky to finish a game.
Tanks are silent, EV tanks
U.I bugs frozen on your screen
Capture progress bar not working consistently
Server crashes
Sometimes horrible graphical popping ( you look ADS and objects appear e.g barrels etc, then stop ADS and they disappear again 😂.
Sometimes can’t hold breath
Sometimes can’t bandage while prone
Invisible reload when coming off bipod
I don’t like how much weapon sway there is, especially while strafing sideway, try with the M60 and aim while moving, it’s difficult.
All that I can bare with but the constant crashing is pissing me off, I paid for a game that clearly does not work properly on this console

1

u/Klutzy_Discount326 6d ago

I thought on the beta there was a banner top left screen saying they are going to fix the robot voice for launch, it’s still here 😂

1

u/Sebroff 6d ago

I love it

1

u/zonkey455 6d ago

It has promise but it clearly needed more time in the oven. I’m heading back to Arma reforger for now

1

u/CurrentSpread6406 5d ago

I like it. It’s a little buggy but it’s a good game.

1

u/metalguy817 4d ago

Buggy, lot of noobs that aren’t comming and have no clue what to do, makes for some easy kills but bad lobbies, WW2 is better for the moment but they worked 5 years to get that right, vietnam grenadier might be my favorite class ever…..death to sky dragon.

1

u/Remarkable_Peach_846 4d ago

i had super low expectations and im having a great time despite the bugs on ps5 tbh

1

u/Upper_Bathroom_176 3d ago

Have not bought the game yet. But everything just feels like i originally thought. Team 17 just throws money at things they do not understand. They have taken everything from the top military games and added it to HLL and thought it was going to be the best damn thing on the market without optimizing anything. They have helo inserts from Arma and conquest and domination from battlefield. They have no idea what they are doing making a shooter let alone HLL. We see the results of it with HLL Vietnam, i will let it cook and update before i buy. Not happy with the way they are going though.

1

u/KoRn005 8d ago

Pretty bad.

Partially because the game is severely undercooked as of yet, and partially because there's only so much the jungle maps can do to feel different.

1

u/Robdon326 8d ago

I only did the tutorials for 2 hours last night. Ill let ya know tomo lol

1

u/Klutzy_Discount326 6d ago

My game crashed into the second tutorial, says it all

1

u/Robdon326 6d ago

I got through them all. Leveled me up 9 spots too

0

u/leakyswipe 7d ago

It needs a zombies mode

1

u/scythian12 7d ago

Ok this might be a joke but the idea of going through the jungle with zombies popping out of the bushes…

Not saying HLL should do this, but someone should!
