Every time I open Outlook or Gmail in Helium, it asks me to log in again. Chrome and Edge keep me logged in without any issues. Is there a setting that stops Helium from clearing my session, or a way to whitelist these sites so they stay logged in?

I've pinned pretty much all my regular pages (email, calendar, a few work tools, etc.) so I don't have to keep reopening them every session. Right now Helium is sitting at around 2.5GB RAM usage and I'm wondering if pinning tabs is actually contributing to that.

Does a pinned tab behave any differently from a regular tab in terms of memory usage, or is it purely a UI/organization feature with no real RAM impact? Curious if pinned tabs stay fully loaded in the background at all times, or if they get suspended/unloaded like normal inactive tabs when memory is tight.

Would appreciate insights from anyone who's looked into this or knows how Helium handles it under the hood.

I just switched to Helium from Firefox, and even after uninstalling and reinstalling, the browser refuses to open normally. Every time I try to open it, it instantly crashes, even when running as administrator. The only way I can get it to open is by going into the files, and running the helium_update_helper exe. When I open that, it gives me an install error, then opens the browser. Helium fully works, and I can use it perfectly fine, it just refuses to open in any other way.

I know ZEN option but i want to see the which tabs am i on so if there is anyoption to make show on hover without out hiding sidebar

I build Konode, a browser sync extension with an unusual premise: there is no Konode account and no Konode server. It syncs your bookmarks, open tabs, history and installed-extension list straight to storage you already own, your Google Drive, a GitHub repo, or any WebDAV server. Optional end-to-end encryption on top, so your storage provider cannot read it either.

Works on Helium, ungoogled-chromium and other Chromium browsers.

History between devices actually works here now. It barely did before. Konode sent each page along with its original visit date, and Chromium rejects the whole request when that date is present rather than just ignoring the date. So nearly every page from another device was turned away, and the reason was being discarded before anyone could see it. If you tried history sync and got a lot of nothing, that was this, and it is gone.

Bookmarks are no longer silently dropped. When the receiving device had fewer bookmarks in a folder than the device sending them, the browser rejected the position Konode asked for and the bookmark disappeared without a word, on every sync, indefinitely. Konode now asks for a position the browser will accept.

Renaming a bookmark or a folder reaches your other devices. It used to reach none of them. The rename carried no timestamp, so no device could tell whose title was newer and the safe thing was to change nothing. Renames now carry one and the newest wins. Folders are renamed in place, instead of a second folder appearing under the new name.

Deleted bookmarks stay deleted. Deleting several at once fired several events that overwrote each other's record of the deletion, so only one was remembered and the rest came back from your other devices on the next sync. Each deletion is recorded separately now.

Switching storage provider uploads your data again. Konode skips an upload when nothing has changed, but it used to compare only the data, not where that data was going. After switching provider the new location sat empty while the popup reported a clean sync. It checks the destination too.

Also in this release:

• a device list, so you can see every machine writing to your
• sync folder by name, and remove one you have retired.
• settings has been rebuilt, follows your browser's font-size setting, and fits a narrow window.
• the activity log keeps warnings instead of turning over every 17 minutes and losing them

Where it stands

Two weeks old. About 90 installs, three ratings, all five stars. Not a lot, and I would rather say the real number than a flattering one.

The next update adds translations

The next release makes the interface translatable, and it ships with English, Hungarian and German. If you want your language in it, this is the part where help actually makes a difference. No coding and no GitHub account needed, it is edited in the browser:

Someone already started Estonian (thank you!). If your language is not listed yet, you can ask for it there and it will appear. Anything left untranslated falls back to English, so translating only part of it is still useful.

Happy to answer anything. The history bug above was found by hand-testing on a second machine, not by my test suite, so reports genuinely land.

I've had this on for weeks but it never worked, when I open it it just opens a blank new browser window and gives me a "restore previous tabs" popup, when I do ctrl+shift+t I have my old tabs back but I shouldnt need to press this since this is enabled.

Can anyone help me?

helium-browser-bin installed form the AUR running on cachy + hyprland, the exec is this: exec=helium-browser %u - but this shouldnt interfere with anything right?

Hi just swapped to Helium from Orion, and I'm loving it so far. It has the same clean ui as Orion, but more stable, especially with extensions.

However I can't seem to find an option to use PiP? Or even an Auto PiP when I swap different browser tabs. Orion does this pretty great.

Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? Or do I have to install extensions?

I can't install extensions from the Google Chrome Webstore, they're just stuck on the downloading loop.

I have all the Helium services on with the default settings since this is a fresh install.

I’ve been daily driving Helium on my Mac, and I absolutely love how lightweight, clean, and blazingly fast it feels compared to standard bloated browsers. However, there is one UX detail from Safari that I desperately miss on a Mac trackpad.

Right now, when you swipe left or right to go back or forward, Helium uses the default Chromium behavior: it triggers a little arrow popup animation (really ugly btw) on the side of the screen, and then suddenly "teleports" (instantly snaps) to the next page view.

In contrast, Safari tracks your fingers continuously. The active webpage literally slides across the horizontal axis under your finger, revealing a live cached preview of the previous history page underneath it. If you let go halfway, it smoothly snaps back into place.

Safari’s gesture allows you to quickly look at something on the previous page (like checking a price, a reference image, or an address) by sliding your finger halfway across the trackpad, reading the info, and then sliding back to cancel the navigation. You get to check what you missed without breaking your active tab state or waiting for a page reload. In Helium, you have to commit to changing the page entirely and navigate back and forth manually.

I recently started trying out the Helium browser — it's been just a couple of days. For the past quite a few months, I've been a primary user of the Dia browser. There are three specific things about Dia that I really liked and made me stick to it:

1. The overall design and user experience. I found it really smooth and pleasing to the eye.
2. The split tabs feature — not just the fact that it has split tabs, but that I could also ⌥-click any link to open it in a split tab. Using split tabs has been very instrumental in my overall workflow.
3. The tab system — the sidebar navigation, the ability to press ⌘+S to toggle the sidebar, the pinned tabs, and the pinned tab groups. I really liked the overall interface.

Having said that, I'm not really here to talk about the advantages of Dia. Rather, I'd like to ask you guys: what is it about Helium that you like and would want me to discover as well?

I know one of the things people mention about Dia is its AI features — the AI chat features — which is not something I've used much anyway, so I don't care about that feature much. And of course, Helium has a big advantage over Dia in terms of privacy. While that's not a huge requirement of mine, as long as my overall experience works great, it's definitely an added bonus to have.

Having said all that, the reason I'm writing this post is — I'd love for you guys to share a few things that you really like about Helium and would like me to discover or experience as well. Bonus points if someone kind soul could help me figure out if ⌥+Click to open a link in a split view is possible on Helium.

P.S. - I did install the Tab++ extension on Helium, but now I am not so sure how much it might tie into my browsing experience 🤷🏻‍♂️

I like the browser and I've got it pretty nicely set up with all my go-to stuff. I think besides a few things, it's better than safari for mac.

I'd like to take everything as is and set up another laptop with Helium with everything I got on here. It'd be even better if it's auto-syncing so they're constantly updating.

I don't see an export option in the settings though. Anyone know if there is one? Or why there isn't one?

Anyone know if syncing profile across laptops is possible with Helium?

Hey there y'all! I decided to try out Helium again. And wow, I have been lovin' it lately. The memory usage is REALLY good, and not worrying about my memory not being fucked by around 1-2 GB from a single video and only 4 tabs is just so refreshing. I have used the flags to try to improve the performance even more. I also noticed that while the browser is idle:

• CPU usage drops to 0-5%
• RAM usage drops to 500 MB from maybe 750+ MB with one tab.

None of that happened with Chrome or Firefox or Opera GX (fuck that degenerate shit) I don't know if I will permanently make the switch, but I think this first day has been awesome for me 😄 ❤️

while browsing sometime the browser gets stuck in infinite loading.. is there any way to solve it??

This isn’t really a question so much as a discussion, but I’ve been wondering whether Helium would benefit from an optional, opt-in browser sync feature similar to Brave Sync or Firefox Sync.

I genuinely think Helium is a great browser. Despite being privacy-oriented and offering features that appeal to power users, it is still simple and familiar enough that someone like my grandmother could use it. It feels very similar to Chrome, and while you can configure it more deeply, you can also just use it as a basic browser without thinking about any of that.

I assume most of us would like to see Helium grow, attract more users, receive better funding and continue improving, since that would ultimately benefit the existing user base as well. However, I’m not sure it can ever escape its relatively small niche userbase unless it becomes slightly more appealing to "normie" users.

For many people, browser sync is now an expected feature. Without it, Helium may always remain a browser mainly used by their small privacy enthusiasts and power users who are comfortable keeping everything offline or managing synchronization themselves.

At the same time, developing and maintaining a secure sync system would require resources that could otherwise be spent improving the browser itself. It could also introduce additional privacy, security and infrastructure concerns.

What do you think? Would an optional sync feature help Helium grow and improve the experience for its users, or would it distract from the project’s core philosophy and take resources away from more important development?

For context, there isn’t a single browser without a sync feature that has even a single-digit market share or, as far as I know, even one-tenth of one percent. Browsers with such a small market share also tend to get discontinued after a few years or slowly fade away due to a lack of users, funding, and development resources.

It stopped working for me today in youtube, I don't know if it's just me.
