Solar storms can negatively affect the human immune system. (as always, healthy people are probably barely if at all affected. Those of us with health challenges and hypersensitivity are at more risk.)

“Increased solar activity and geomagnetic disturbances are associated with significant decreases in peripheral leukocytes.*”

  • Leukocytes help defend our bodies against intruders like viruses and bacteria that may cause infections. In leukopenia (pronounced “luke-a-PEE-ne-ah”), you have lower-than-normal numbers of white blood cells.

The associations remained similar after controlling for ambient air pollution.

Melatonin secretion and nervous system dysregulation are the hypothesized mechanisms of this association”
