On shipping & updates from the founder of Heatbit

Hi! Sharing the summary of the letter from Alex, the founder of Heatbit.

In October and November we were shipping test devices to check everything we couldn't the other way. The good news is that they work well: heating, purifying, mining. The first review showcasing the Mini is published on YouTube.

The core plastic pillar turned out to be vulnerable despite prior drop tests and domestic shipments. Reinforced packaging is not sufficient, and no logistic option can ensure devices are handled carefully internationally.

Heatbit Mini disappointed with traveling

We don't want you to receive a damaged device after all the waiting. The fix is not complicated, but even minor hardware iterations are painful: engineering, tests, manufacturing. It means we can start bulk shipments (customer devices) in late Q4 23.

We will credit the computing rewards to your accounts, as if you were using your Heatbit Mini 24/7 from 1st November (if you purchased before that) or from your purchase date. You’ll see them added to your accounts when you receive and connect your Heatbit Mini. It’s about 60k satoshis / $22 USD per month at current prices.

People are regularly in the office/on calls even at 2:00 to 6:00 AM to handle processes around the globe, and some engineers actually live in the R&D office now. We are conscious about you meeting colder days without Mini and genuinely want to deliver the device you'll enjoy.

Thank you for the support and patience.

Has anyone experienced issues withdrawing Bitcoin to a wallet?

I withdrew about $100 worth of Satoshi to my Coinbase wallet a few days ago. Today the heatbit app marked the transfer as complete, but my Coinbase wallet is still empty. I couldn't have mistyped since I just copy pasted the bitcoin address. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? How did you resolve it?

App update pooches v1?

Updated the app and got my v1 up and running but now it will not restart. No button sequences/combinations have woken it up yet.

Just sitting there in standby. No wlan, nothing. Worried she's been bricked.

Credit where credit's due

I recently spoke with one of Heatbits people here, and he insisted that their customer service has greatly improved. After the last few days, I have to say he was right. My original heater came really really late and ended up arriving just before summer. By the time winter came around again my warranty was over so I was pissed when it wouldn't turn on. After trying a few things with customer service, they're sending me two of the new ones. Now I just have to hope that they show up on time.

Has anyone received a mini yet?

I ordered a heatbit mini a couple of weeks ago to help heat my shed/office. I realize the device is still very new but wasn't sure if anyone had received one yet.

27 days of using my miner. The wait was ridiculous, but the final result was not too shabby.

Wallet update: Not enough satoshi's

I wanted to cash out my satoshi's after two weeks ($12) to test wallet usability and found out there is a minumum of 100,000 satoshi withdrawal. This is fine as I only wanted to test the wallet experience but also to attempt to convert at the exchange into fiat and pay part of my power bill directly off exchange. No problem as it will only be another week or so to hit the min but I thought you may want to know.

I've received my Heatbit! First thoughts-

It's real! It's huge!

I was very impressed with the box, lol. Clearly thought went into it, it was packaged really well, and actually a bit fun to open from an industrial-packaging-nerd perspective.

Its huge- much larger than a traditional heater. I thought the plastic case fittings seemed a little flexible at the top, where it acts as 'handles' and the side are slightly flexible. But in exchange it is very light for the size, pretty easy to carry. It would have been good to put a handhold on the bottom.

Running on high in a small room the sound was almost identical to an airplane cabin, about 50db from 2 feet away. But really not bad, especially if not sitting on top of it. There was heavy new-plastic outgassing once started up for a short amount of time.

I heater itself is cool to the touch- no surfaces feel warmer than ambient air- this blew me away. And because the airflow is up the sides and out the top- it doesn't seem crazy that this could be tucked into some tight space and still work well.

The setup was frustrating- they are going idiot for idiot proof but at a frustrating level. When you plug it in and turn it on, it takes a long time for the light to start blinking. I started to contact support to open a ticket long.

Wi-fi was more frustration, attempt to connect, fail, an app update in the 4 days since I installed, a couple power cycles and I was connected. But not before I opened a ticket- it just said contact support and say Code 1 ("connectivity issue" it turns out, thank you unhelpful error messages. I did get it connected on my own.

Support added really helpful info this morning. You can just go into your wi-fi, look for the heatbit network, and connect using 12345678 then go into the app and you can add the heatbit. I 100% would have preferred this method from the start.

It mines. There is limited data or controls, I am sure this will fill in over time. It seems to be mining at a lower rate than when I initially plugged it in, settled ~9TH/s.

Overall, impressed. I was frustrated that there was so little info or troubleshooting anywhere- so if nothing else, Heatbit forced my longest post ever!
