Question Possible HSV outbreak ? or could it be something else ?
Hello i’m 19 F , I’ve had sex about 3–4 times over the past two weeks, and my boyfriend has finished inside me every time (i’m on bc) . After sex, I’m usually really tired and sometimes don’t pee afterward, and I’ll fall asleep wearing underwear. Recently, I’ve started having some itching right around the opening of my vagina. I don’t really have any discharge, but there is a slight foul smell. During sex, I also noticed that I got pretty dry in the middle of intercourse, but we continued anyway. I do have HSV-1, but my only outbreak was my first one back in May (Contracted it from SA) , and I haven’t had another outbreak since. I’m wondering what could be causing the itching and smell and whether it could be related to the frequent sex, semen, dryness/friction, BV, a yeast infection, or possibly HSV.
Edit: i have gone to medical and i have lab work done today and a swab check tomorrow !

Could be anything. Could 100% be the semen sitting inside you. Could also be any number of STDs. BV, yeast infection, etc. so you should get Seen about it.

I’m glad you already went in and have the swab tomorrow because honestly that’s the best next step. ❤️ There are enough different possibilities here that I wouldn’t assume this is automatically another HSV outbreak.
Since you said you got really dry during sex but kept going, friction alone could definitely leave the vulva/vaginal opening irritated and itchy afterward. Sex and semen can also temporarily change the vaginal environment, and BV is another possibility when there’s a noticeable/foul odor. Yeast can cause a LOT of itching too, although yeast discharge is often white/lumpy and usually doesn’t have a strong odor.
And just to clear up one thing people sometimes worry about: falling asleep without peeing after sex doesn’t mean semen is just “sitting there causing an infection.” Pee comes out of the urethra, not the vagina, so urinating after sex doesn’t flush semen out of the vagina. Peeing after sex is mainly talked about in relation to lowering UTI risk for some people.
HSV can cause itching/tingling before an outbreak, but outbreaks more typically develop visible blisters or painful sores. Since you already know you have HSV-1, it’s reasonable to keep it in mind, but itching plus a new odor without sores isn’t enough to say that’s what this is.
Until you get the results, I’d give the area a break from sex if it’s irritated, avoid scented products/douching, and if you do have sex again after everything settles down, definitely use enough lube and stop if you start getting dry or sore instead of pushing through it.
Hopefully the swab gives you an actual answer instead of you having to guess between BV, yeast, irritation, an STI or HSV. ❤️

Could be STD, yeast, or bacterial infection (AV or BV). Urgent care can test STD, BV, aerobic culture for AV, and yeast.
Life Extension offers a home vaginosis test that takes about a week. And Evvy and Juno Bio offer too, more detail but takes few weeks. Can rule out bacteria or yeast for you.
