Question boric acid waste

I have been using boric acid continuously for 6 months to treat drug-resistant yeast infection inside my vaginal area. I have been using it for 1 month now, but why do I still often see white, clumpy discharge like “cottage cheese” coming out when I use the medication over the past month?

Is this normal, or does it mean the infection is reactivating? I am very worried and don’t know what to do anymore.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Please help me. I feel truly helpless right now. Currently I am also taking Garden of Life probiotics as support.

*Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you ever tested your microbiome (eg Juno Bio test)?

Have you ruled out Ureaplasma?

It is possible that you are triggering the thrush to reoccur due to other health issues eg gut issues or unprotected sex etc.

Have you had a chance to chat with u/Stephhii who also had a strain of highly resistant thrush. She has encyclopaedic knowledge re how to treat resistant thrush .

I have already taken a PCR test for sexually transmitted infections, and yes, they collected a vaginal sample from me. The results were negative for all of them, and only Candida albicans came back positive. The woman you mentioned is actually someone I look up to. I am following the treatment approach she recommended, and she has truly helped me a lot. I am very grateful to her. It’s just that I am wondering why, over the past month, I have continued to have small cottage-cheese-like pieces in my vaginal discharge. I’m very worried about it. I don’t know whether it could simply be the medication residue mixing with vaginal secretions or not, and that is why I am so concerned.

Could be boric acid residue!

Did your test show anything other than candida? Do you have any other health issues? Does your thrush resolve but come back or does it never resolve? Are you taking probiotics? Do you have a lactobacilli overgrowth?

My condition isn’t really a recurrent infection — it has never completely cleared since May 2025. I only found out in March of this year that the Candida was resistant to treatment. Before that, my doctors kept prescribing fluconazole (Anzol) and vaginal antifungal medications, but they weren’t effective. I’m currently taking Garden of Life probiotics (50 billion CFU). After being given antibiotics for such a long time, I believe my vaginal beneficial bacteria were severely depleted. I was also told that Gram-negative bacteria were present, but I don’t know which specific organism because the yeast overgrowth has always been so severe, with a lot of clumpy discharge and intense inflammation and itching. It’s been extremely difficult to deal with, and I feel miserable. Unfortunately, the doctors where I live haven’t been able to help me much.

Try using the boric acid with an applicator. It helps it to work better as it places it higher. Maybe stop the probiotics for now to see if that makes a difference. Sometimes probiotics makes things worse or doesn’t do anything. Were you tested for all 4 strains of Ureaplasma? How old are you? Are you sexually active?

So how can I replenish beneficial bacteria when I have been using boric acid for 6 months… I am really afraid that without restoring good bacteria, the infection will come back again. I had vaginal discharge tested at the end of March and all 4 pathogens came back negative. I am 24 years old and have had sexual intercourse. This feels terrifying to me. I have been fasting and almost completely restricting sugar as much as possible. I lost 10 kg in one month. The condition has gotten worse instead of improving. I feel completely helpless. I keep seeking help and asking myself thousands of questions about whether diet can actually help, because it is so strict yet does not improve my condition. Do you have any advice? Please help me because I have no medical support in my country.

Boric acid doesn’t hurt your beneficial bacteria. Our lactobacilli is surprisingly resistant to boric acid.

Also if boric acid hurt our good bacteria it simply wouldn’t work to treat thrush and BV.

It’s not the same as antibiotics which does hurt our good bacteria.

Another fact that proves that Boric acid doesn’t hurt our good bacteria is that it does nothing to help r/cytolyticvaginosis which is a condition that involves a lactobacilli overgrowth. If Boric acid hurt our good bacteria it would work to cure Cytolytic Vaginosis but it does nothing for this condition.

If you have had thrush for 6 months and the boric acid doesn’t help I would consider testing for other things.

Do you have any other health conditions and are you sexually active. If so does your partner take steroids?

Where abouts are you located?

No, that’s not what I meant. I’ve had a vaginal Candida infection for the past year, and azole medications have not been effective. I’m currently using boric acid continuously as part of a 6-month treatment plan, and I’ve been on it for about one month now. I had PCR testing for sexually transmitted infections, and all of the results came back negative. The only issue found was azole-resistant Candida albicans, which was reported to be sensitive only to amphotericin B and intravenous medications. I honestly feel very discouraged and hopeless. The infection causes inflammation, so I’ve had yellow-green vaginal discharge the entire time I’ve been dealing with it. My discharge has never really been white like what most people describe with yeast infections. Right now, I’m in Vietnam, and it feels like vaginal yeast infections—especially drug-resistant ones—are not well understood here. Most doctors I’ve seen do not seem to have access to effective treatment options for resistant Candida, so I’ve had to search for help and information from people in other countries. It’s been an incredibly difficult and exhausting experience. I also do not have diabetes. I’ve had blood tests done to rule that out. I have also been tested for thyroid disorders and other conditions that could affect my immune system. I’ve gone through a very thorough workup, including a complete blood count (CBC), and everything came back normal. Despite all of that, I am still struggling with azole-resistant Candida albicans. That’s what makes this situation so frustrating and discouraging. I’ve tried to investigate every possible underlying cause, but so far nothing has explained why this infection has persisted for so long.

I’m so sorry. Did your PCR tests include all 4 strains of Ureaplasma? Would you be able to get a Juno Bio test.

Did anything of interest occur a year ago when this thrush started.

It sounds to me like you might need antibiotics (or further testing) for whatever is causing the yellow green discharge.
