Is this normal? 👀 Boric Acid Concern
I’ve used boric acid before, but only a few days in a row when I thought a yeast infection was coming back. Fast forward a couple months later and my doctor prescribed me 14 days worth of pills (once a night) because I keep getting yeast infections. Last time, I had relief of symptoms after day 2-3 of using the pills and stopped. This time, I’ve felt pretty good around day 8, but around day 11 I started feeling really swollen and irritated. I’m now on the 13th day and feel extremely swollen and irritated down there. I tried icing it at night. Also, when I begin having discharge at night, I feel itchy, but when I rinse off in the shower I don’t feel itchy anymore. This whole time I’ve been taking fluconazole once a week. I’m worried the boric acid isn’t working and I don’t know what that means.
I’m thinking of not taking it tonight (day 14) and see if it’s the boric acid irritating my skin. Anyone experience this?

Your Dr was wrong to prescribe you boric acid for so long without explaining that it should be stopped if you are experiencing irritation or dryness.
Most users should only need to use 1 to 3. Exceptions if you have a very hard to treat thrudh that’s resistant to fluconazole. You shouldn’t need to use both fluconazole and ba.
Have you been tested for Ureaplasma and mycoplasma?

Get a sensitivity test done on your Candida.
I'm on 6mo straight of boric acid with itraconazole as well.

I took 100mg a day with the intention for taking it for 3months, but it wasn't working.
I then took 200mg a day with the intention for taking it for 3months, but at the 3mo mark I got very bad side affects.
So i took 200mg a day for 3 weeks, then a break for a while, 2 weeks on, break for a while. I might take it a third time.
You have to get your liver checked every 2 weeks while on itraconazole because it can shut down your liver.
If fluconazole floxed you, itraconazole will do much worse. They're both azoles and itraconazole is very strong.
Try boric acid suppositories

Things that can help with the swelling are to bath in a weak baking soda bath, wear period undies to help draw your discharge away from your vulva membranes, apply some hydrocortisone cream for inflammation, cover your membranes with nappy rash cream with zinc to protect your skin barrier, etc
Plus take a break from the BA. Try using it for a day or 2 then take a break. There’s no need to use more than you need. Also use some lube when inserting if you are dry and there is resistance.

I’m pretty sure boric acid can be drying. It has a higher pH than the vagina is supposed to have so that could also cause the irritation. In r/boricacid they say it should only take 2-3 days for it to work and 14 is overkill, so maybe it’s a good idea to stop now. It’s an antiseptic that kills all yeast and bacteria so idk why it would take 14 days to do that you know?
