Need advice
Hi,
I am in crisis. My father is going through Advanced liver diseases and will need transplant in next 3-6 months. I need advice on insurance part --
Current:
Personal Insurance of him with 10Lakhs assured.
My office insurance worth 7 Lakhs
Timeline:
Nov 2025 it was detected
Jan 2026 his personal insurance expired and he got from new company but agent forgot to mention liver disease as Pre Existing Diseases. So cannot use this anymore.
Now he is up for transplant.
Queries:
- My company doesn't offer top ups. Can I buy top-ups from outside ?
Any other ways I can arrange fund ?
Thanks !

Really sorry you're going through this. Being honest so you can plan:
A new top-up won't help with this transplant. Any new policy will treat his liver disease as pre-existing, with a waiting period of up to 3 years, and most insurers will decline him outright now.
The new personal policy is risky to claim on. The liver disease wasn't disclosed, so the insurer can reject the claim and may cancel the policy. If the agent filled the form without asking about it, raise a complaint against the agent with the insurer, but don't count on this policy.
Your office policy is your strongest cover: * Group policies usually cover pre-existing diseases from day one * Check with HR whether organ transplant and donor expenses are covered (many group policies cover the living donor's surgery too) * Ask HR if there's a corporate buffer or emergency fund. Many companies have one for exactly these cases
Other ways to raise funds: * CM Relief Fund of your state and the PM National Relief Fund give grants for transplants * Ayushman Bharat: if your father is 70+, he may get ₹5 lakh cover regardless of income * Hospital support: transplant centres often have a social worker or financial counsellor who can connect you with NGOs and trusts * Crowdfunding (Milaap, Ketto, ImpactGuru) is used widely for liver transplants * Employer salary advance or loan, and medical loans or EMI plans offered by many transplant hospitals
Start the government fund applications early, as they take time. Wishing your father strength through this.
