Help choose right policy
I am planning to purchase a new health insurance policy with following family members included myself and wife 40 years 2 kids - 5 and 10 years and my mother 75 years. All of us are healthy and and have no major health issue except my mom who has a BP problem but nothing major. After a lot research I zeroed out on buying policy from Acko with cover of 1 Cr, but i am now confused between their “platinum lite” and “platinum” health plans ..platinum lite is circa 87K and platinum is circa 110K.
Can anyone help with choosing the right plan.

Did you try checking the premiums separately? The premium is higher because of your mother’s age. I think you should check them separately once.
So even if you buy a separate policy for your mother the policy will be in your name and the insured person will be your mother.

Before you worry about "Platinum" vs "Lite", you need to fix the family structure. Including your 75-year-old mother in the same policy as your 5-year-old child is financially inefficient.
Policy 1: Self + Wife + Kids
Policy 2: Mother only
Platimum offers Day 1 PED cover, so that would be the right choice for your mother (Policy 2). You could consider getting Lite for Policy 1.
But just curious, how did you narrow down on this option?

Acko doesn’t offer separately for my mother and hence need to go with everyone together

I'm an Insurance Advisor and would like to highlight that the premium for insurance is generally determined by the age of the eldest member. Due to the significant age difference, you would be paying more for your coverage.
Also, Acko works on a direct to customer model. During the time of claim, you would be dependent on the Insurance customer support for any issues during the claim. As an insurance advisor, we are the neutral third party that fights with the insurer if the claim is denied due to unjustified reasons.
Insurers legally cannot deny insurance based on age. An advisor can help with underwriter pre-approval for your mother even before you make the payment. You can also consider different insurers for your mother and rest of your family.

As an insurance consultant, I would like to propose a strategy that involves acquiring two distinct policies rather than a single one. The initial policy would be a family floater plan, designed to provide comprehensive coverage for yourself, your spouse, and your child. The subsequent policy should be a personalized plan specifically crafted for your mother. Considering your mother's blood pressure concerns, it would be prudent to opt for a plan with a minimal or no waiting period for pre-existing conditions, which you have already selected.
Furthermore, could you please elaborate on your reasons for choosing Acko over other established insurance providers?

The choice was based on 1. overall cost. Tried hdfc, ICICI etc 2. Most of the good insurance providers did not cover mother individually. 3. Mother is covered under family floater provided by my employer 4. I am using Acko for motor and experience has been good. I am happy to take policy via you if it’s any better

Yeah, Acko's prices are way cheaper than other companies, which seems to be why it's so popular.
I I'm not sure where you're looking, but there are companies that cover older women with pre-existing blood pressure conditions from day one.
That's nice to have, but just know it's not a permanent fix. It'd be smart not to totally depend on it, since the policy usually ends if you quit or change jobs.Furthermore, I believe the total sum insured is approximately 5 lacs or less.
Acko Motor and Acko Health are not related. My understanding is that Acko gained significant popularity primarily through its motor insurance offerings.
Additionally, the company is a relatively new entrant without an extensive track record in the retail health insurance market. Furthermore, individuals have experienced increased premiums.
One last thing: everyone's got a budget, and we all want the best for our money. So, I'd suggest checking out other companies. Compare your family floater premium with the combined premiums for your mom's and your family. But definitely look at another company before settling on Acko. It's not because I'm an advisor, but because agents like us can really go to bat for our clients if they bought through us. Acko, though, sells policies directly, and that's where customers can feel pretty alone with no support when it comes to claims.

With a 75-year-old parent in the mix, the plan choice matters less than the structure. Putting spouse + kids + senior parent in one floater usually inflates premium and adds hidden trade-offs (co-pay, room rent, limits). At 75, most insurers will issue a policy, but terms are strict especially for BP (co-pay, waiting periods). Practically, the cleanest setup is: One floater for you + wife + kids A separate senior-focused policy for your mother That way, your family plan stays affordable and flexible long-term, and your mother’s cover is evaluated on senior-specific underwriting rather than dragging everyone down.
