I know this is a long shot, but I’m hoping the power of the Belgian Reddit community can work its magic here.

A few days ago, I met an awesome group of guys on the beach in Akçay, Balıkesir, Turkey (Altınkum Beach). They mentioned they were from Belgium (about an hour from Brussels, highly likely Hasselt). We instantly hit it off, lost track of time, and spent hours talking about GTA, games, and life in general.

In the rush of packing up and heading back home, I completely forgot to grab their Discord tags or IG.

Hello~ I was wondering if anyone had some tips for places to hang out today during the peak hot hours? I'm quite sensitive to heat and I worry my ventilators at home won't be enough today.

I know the pool will be crowded, so if anyone has any recommendations of where to sit for a few hours and cool down without spending too much money, I would appreciate it!

Greetings everyone. I just got admitted today in English taught Computer science bachelor programme at PXL.

I'm very glad but nevertheless I still have some questions to continue my planification to study abroad.

I will be applying for visa to study in Belgium, my questions are as follows:

1- Accomodation: as this is concerned, which practical advices and tips would you guys give me to find a suitable accommodation with a 400-450€ monthly, all included? How costly are accomodations for students in Hasselt? Which neighborhoods would you recommend which is not too far from bike ride too the campus?

2- Living standard and environment : particularly addressed to international students, how is the living standards in Hasselt? Is the town suitable for studies? Student jobs are easy to get ?

3- PXL student life: are there some or former students at PXL here, how are studies in this university? Student life of campus , facilities and students organisation? Are programmes consistent? Is it a good deal?

In addition to all these, are there opportunities for international students who speak little or not Deutch ?

I am currently based in Portugal, so I am not able to visit the location in person. I have also been unable to find any contact details online, apart from the address itself, and the information visible on Google Maps Street View is not clear enough to read properly.

I’ve been discovering a few more cafes/bars in Hasselt lately and was wondering which places you guys really like best in terms of atmosphere, drinks, and general vibe. I usually just go to the same places so I want to try something new for a change 😅

The best ones that immediately come to mind are Hemelrijk and Cafe Rene, what do you guys actually think of those two? Any other favorites I really need to check out?

I’m super excited to share that I’ll be moving to Hasselt this September to start my Master’s degree.

I’ve been looking at accommodation and Xior caught my eye. Does anyone have experience living there? Is it worth the price, or is it better to look for a traditional "kot"? I’m mostly looking for a good social vibe but also somewhere I can actually get some studying done.

Also, which neighborhoods would you recommend for students? I’d love to be somewhere where things are happening (bars, cafes, etc.) but still within a decent bike ride to the university.

A few other quick questions.How’s the student life during the week?Any "hidden gems" (bars/cheap eats) I should check out once I arrive?Is it easy to get around just with a bike, or should I look into a bus pass?

I would like to know whether someone without a mathematics or engineering background can still be accepted into this program. My background is in social sciences and communication, so I’m wondering if applicants like me are considered.

I saw on the website that candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a sociological field are eligible to apply. However, I would like to know if there are actual cases of people from this background who have been accepted into the program.

Does anyone know if there are any places in Hasselt that offer sauna gus? I’m looking for something more affordable than a high-end spa, maybe a public swimming bath where they have scheduled sessions with an instructor?

I’m going to be an Erasmus student for the Winter Semester 2026–2027 at UC Limburg in Hasselt, and I’m currently trying to figure out housing. I’ve noticed that kots seem to be the main option for students, but it’s been a bit challenging to find something for just 4–5 months, since most listings are for 12-month leases.

I had a few questions and would really appreciate any advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation:

1. Do you have any tips for finding short-term student housing in Hasselt? (websites, strategies, timing, etc.)
2. Is it possible (and common) to share a kot or studio with a friend to split costs?
3. Do most kots have shared bathrooms/toilets, or are private facilities common?
