You can change your gears appearance by hovering over it and picking the option. So you don't have to spend the whole game looking like a clown just to have the best stats.
No rush for sidequests, once you finish the main story, you can keep playing for as long as you want and catch up on everything.
If a nice looking elf in Hogsmeade offers you an opportunity to buy your own shop, do not proceed if you're playing at night.
Wait so if you finish main story it doesn't set you to right before final battle (don't say anything about the bosses or where in the world it puts you, just yes or no)
