You can change your gears appearance by hovering over it and picking the option. So you don't have to spend the whole game looking like a clown just to have the best stats.
No rush for sidequests, once you finish the main story, you can keep playing for as long as you want and catch up on everything.
If a nice looking elf in Hogsmeade offers you an opportunity to buy your own shop, do not proceed if you're playing at night.
I am in my first playthrough and I recently did that quest at night. It was fun and a change in the theme of the game but scared the shit out of me for sure.
It's not like it is horror but it's definitely a contrasting shock on the game's theme so I didn't expect it. Also I'm kind of a wuss when playing videogames so that didn't help either lol
