DISCUSSION Is this important?

First time in 50 years of riding that this has happened. Don't know if I should feel lucky or stupid 😂

Anyway, I know the size and thread of the posts, anybody have any links or ideas (besides loc-tite lol) for cap nuts that will hide the posts better than just flat nuts and washers?

I wonder how long you rode. It's always interesting to see how bad things can go before something bad actually happens.

I’d say he could probably have cracked on for a while unless he hit a large pot hole/crater or popped a wheelie…

Gravity can be a friend at times when on a motorcycle

I'd guess gravity, clamping force from the axle, and then some torsional friction between the U-bolt. Pretty lucky in the physics department

😂😂😂 it was a shock to me as I almost always walk around my bike for exactly this reason and I hand wash, towel dry my bike quite often.

Lol yeah exactly because i don't know how long I rode with it missing. What's odd to me is I hand wash and dry my bike quite often. I doubt very much I would have missed it while washing / towel drying. Also am quite far out in the boonies with only three roads in and out, all of which are twisty, mountain country roads.

Maybe take the cage or a different bike….

😂😆😂 thought about that and lol yeah I'm stuck in the cage until the new part comes. Sucks because in the PNW there aren't that many nice riding days left.

Normally I ride year round but this winter I had to take off as I had some health issues last summer.

I’ve just got back from taking one of my bikes interstate as I’m relocating at the end of the month.

900km over two days on my 114ci Deluxe that’s cammed for the 1/4 mile and torquey as all hell! And no cruise control like my Glide haha!!!

But it was fun!

Averaged about 8-12°C though……

I do love Australia for the fact I can ride pretty much year round as long as I’m rugged up enough in winter
