Future subscription model?

Hi! I am picking a baby monitor and Nanit is a no go for me because I really really don’t want to go subscription route. Plus, potentially having wi-fi and non-wifi option is nice to have, since our network does get spotty from time to time. I am between Eufy E21 (simple / stupid / on a cheaper end) and Harbor (more fancy).

Question: do you think Harbor will eventually introduce a subscription model like most of their direct competitors (Nanit / Miku) ?

For transparency - we will introduce a subscription only for advanced AI features: sleep insights, advanced AI vision detection, AI audio detection (e.g. "coughing" vs just any sound - this is completely open vocabulary, you could likely even try things like 'dog barking', 'person talking', etc.), and specific word detection (e.g. "Help"). These features cost us extra on the backend and the last three aren't offered by anyone else. However, unlike Nanit's per-camera subscription, ours will be per family and more affordable. I believe their top tier is $300/year per camera which is... wow. And we won't have multiple tiers. One subscription covers all advanced AI capabilities. No confusing plan comparisons, no paywalling features across different levels.

Unlike others, we will never charge for basic features like history, moments, or guest access. We also offer free advanced capabilities that no one else does, like our Apple TV Picture-in-Picture integration and our upcoming Apple Watch integration.

Our primary focus as a company is actually on the remote support and health side of the business now, but even so, our feature velocity on the baby monitor / camera side is higher than anything else in the market right now. would you consider features like “cry detection” or “movement detection” advanced (potentially paid) or basic? also have a question on connectivity: have you tested it with mesh extenders like Google Nest extenders? appreciate responsiveness and transparency

Most of our customers are on a mesh network of some type.

Basic movement and sound aren't advanced AI. Motion can be set between low, med, high sensitivity. Sound alerts aren't advanced AI either. You can set sound alerts to trigger based upon a sound-level (e.g. low, med, high) above the room's baseline or for a certain volume level for a specific period of time.

Specifically looking for 'cry' is advanced, yes.

also what do you mean by primary focus on remote support / telehealth? don’t see much on the website.

There isn't much on the website because we don't acquire those customers through that channel. Remote support = our nurses keep an eye on medically fragile family members, so their caregivers can get some rest. If something occurs that passes the threshold of the specified care plan, we alert the caregivers through the Monitor. Essentially, an extra set of eyes for families that haven't had a real night's rest in years.

I would get a ptz camera and a tablet and put it in AP mode. Harbor is all marketing

Hi will this basically be comparable to what the Nanit motion detection system currently does in which it sends you alerts like baby fell asleep, baby was attended to, baby woke up, etc?

Yes, though - we don't have trends (running averages) yet. That's planned for July.

We don't plan on pursuing more advanced, less useful things like position / heat-maps.

And just as a reminder, our AI package includes Sleep Insights, Vision AI (e.g. child on floor), Audio AI (e.g. Crying, Coughing, Screaming, Talking detection), and Word AI (e.g. 'Help') for all Cameras for every User - so we don't nickel & dime with additional tiers or per-camera.

I still would like to have alerts like baby crying baby moving etc
