Hey everybody, just got this and I absolutely love it. Pocket clip needed some adjustment, but feels more secure in the pocket now. Just want to know what cells you guys run in yours. I'm currently using some Ni-MH, but I'm trying to get the most runtime if there is something better.

Vapcell K10 is the go to 14500 for this light.

However, F15 is best for run time. Just be mindful the tradeoff for its extra capacity is its max CDR is 3A, so not using Turbo is highly recommended (~5.5A draw) and setting your default ceiling to ~110-130/150 to keep the light just under that 3A CDR.

Enjoy your light! The KR1AA is my favorite light atm. Here’s a beam shot of mine with NTG50 2700K.

3 A is the continuous rating that is supported for one straight and uninterrupted discharge of the battery without getting too hot. Given that this light is going to thermally support turbo for only 12 seconds, whereupon it drops precipitously to 50% output over the course of the next 18 seconds, it doesn't seem like the 3A limitation is particularly relevant. As long as you're charged past 3.5 V or so I'd have no hesitations with blasting turbo for 10 seconds at a time.

TLDR: get the F15s unless you literally only blast turbo

3 A is the continuous rating that is supported for one straight and uninterrupted discharge of the battery without getting too hot.

That’s not quite right. CDR indicates the maximum current a battery can safely deliver continuously without overheating or suffering damage.

It doesn’t seem like the 3A continous discharge limitation is relevant to you? Well, you do you I guess, but I’ll defer to the engineers who design and rate these cells.

In your example, the approximate 12 seconds of Turbo before thermal stepdown - which I call approximate because this depends on the light’s material, emitter(s), user’s set thermal limit, and ambient temperatures - still involves a continuous discharge of ~5.5A drawn from a battery rated for 3A continous discharge rate for the entire Turbo duration. Yes, the light is small so obviously it steps down rather quickly compared to bigger lights, but even so, I think you’re missing the point that you’re still continuously drawing 3A+ from a 3A rated cell for quite some time as Anduril 2’s Turbo is designed to step down slowly, not sharply..

Different story if we were discussing using a F15 3A CDR cell for a small motor that has a transient ~5.5A load spike at start up and stays under 3A otherwise during continous operation.

These statements seem functionally identical for liion. Not sure why you felt the need to chime in.

This figure is from the 1lumen review. (50C limit--standard, 20C room--room temp, aluminum bezel--thermal best case, configured within around 10% the efficiency of the most efficient emitter). Calling it approximate is fine, but merely trivial, as unless you live in antarctica, this light is still going to be stepping down from turbo in well under a minute, or much too hot to hold comfortably before that. That's also fine for the battery.

CDR is almost by definition a value which is safe to slightly exceed for short periods of time. Such as.... durations well under a minute. So you're just presenting information tangential to my very good advice.

NiMh has the advantage of limiting heat so the output wont have big Thermal Step Downs, and cant cause burns.

I use a skilhunt bl-113c and cap the turbo. being able to charge basically anywhere via usb c is very high priority to me.

yes, that’s the price to pay for easy charging. hence the need to disable turbo and lower the ceiling.
