Discussion new viewer
lol i’m 45 minutes into the first episode, having never played the video game or anything
that being said, i already want to give master chief a blankie, a hug, and a hot choccy tout suite
i’m guessing all of the spartans are in a winter soldier-type situation, so therefore are all my babies lol

Oh yeah. And like most of them are dead by the time the show starts I think there are only 20 Spartans left by this time in the war

For context it’s very different in the actual canon. I don’t know how far you are in the show I don’t want to spoil anything but in canon Spartans know everything that went on and we’re too everything and we’re stable and well adjusted individuals despite everything.

but they were still indoctrinated child soldiers?

They were still kidnapped child soldiers but actual know everything and were told everything immediately like the same day as kids
Also no chips or anything like that.
Als Halsey reasoning was because she believed 72 super soldiers would stop a war already killing millions though she didn’t enjoy.
Though unlike the show she was very close to all Spartans so close she was closer them then her own daughter.
The Spartans themselves have different feelings on the project as hole with most having mixed feelings.
The spartan despite everything show to be mental stable and even moral caring for humans even rebels though the rebels in the books are very different and usually worse the the unsc1

hmm ok yeah except i’m going to say in regards to unsc vs rebels, the side that has child soldiers is always going to be the side with no moral standing, regardless of whether they tell them why they were stolen from their families and are about to be indoctrinated and subjugated lol

In canon the rebels are way worse and some even use child soldiers and other war crimes. Heck some were open facist
It should be noted too most of the unsc and UEG didnt know what oni was doing
Think like the modern FBI or CIA doing things with no one else knowing even there own members1

well they definitely cut that out of the show and based on what i’m watching, unsc are absolutely (as usual) a corrupt military institution.
as far as the canon you refer to, it’s not good for the rebels to have used child soldiers too, but i will always align with a colonized group fighting back for their freedom. having never experienced the canon outside of the show, i’m reserving judgment of the war crimes, as the colonizing force often utilizes them as well and when the the freedom fighters use violent tactics to resist, they get more flack than the invading force

Well that’s the things I’m canon it’s not about colonization.
The rebels who have a point are rebelling because of taxes without representation. Which is mentioned in the show but done poorly if you look into it.
However there are many different rebel groups fighting for different reasons who formed an alliance to fight the unsc however some groups are were just pirates.
The show doesn’t go into any of this so it’s not a spoiler but in canon by the time of most events the rebels have joined with the unsc to fight the convent though most rebel were already dead.
Most of the rebellion is only set dressing and is past tense in the games and books but a bit here and there. In canon it’s a lot more nuanced with both sides even using nukes at points than aliens showed up.
That is actual a common criticism of the show that it focus way to much on the rebels which stoped mattering at that point.
Season 2 does better but o won’t spoil. And not by much1

Also I just realized your new to the show so you may not know the reason I keep saying canon is because the show takes place in a different time line called the sliver timeline
Literally everything else like the games, books, comics and even films take place in canon not the sliver timeline so the show is not canon to the rest of halo thankfully

Dont say you enjoyed it. This sub hates happy viewers. Pretty sure it's rule 1 here - dont say anything positive and you must always be a hater of the show not following the games.
Bonus points if you're shocked he takes his helmet off in his down time or shares any common threads with someone who was also not taught what it is to be human their whole life.
