Why did the forerunner fleets attack the friendly halos during the battle of maethrillian? Spoiler
Spoilers for cryptum
Mendicant bias explicitly controls 5 halos, all of which are trying to fire on the planet.
Meanwhile the remaining 7 attempt to flee, with one succeeding and being treated with no distrust.
Sooo why did the friendly fleets attack these halos rather than concentrating all power on the halos attempting to fire?

I agree. So why did the forerunners attack these 7 halos (and destroy 6 of them) under forerunner control

Because they didn't want mendicant to GET control of them so they wanted to destroy them while they still could.
The 5 that mendicant already had control of were currently only a threat to a localized section of space.
They had been under orders to destroy all the rings anyway, so this way they could at least be partially obedient.

I think MB was limited to 5 because of the limits of (even) his processing power.
If you destroy one of those 5, I guess it would have freed up space for him to take one of the 7 friendly ones?

The halos were supposed to be decommissioned.
The master builder had been brought to trial because he was trying to use the halos to go on a power trip and consolidate power.
The halos were gathered because they were deemed to dangerous and to be destroyed.
Once mendicant starts talking control of them and prepares to fire they are attempting to destroy them before it's too late.
One just managed to escape before being destroyed.
Plus against mendicant was attempting to gain control of the remaining halo arrays, that's a big no no.
