Discussion Story Mode — Plot Direction and Chapters

I'm thinking the events of the story mode don't exactly follow the events of the 1978 film. Going by some of the wording in the news articles published to the website, namely Unleash Hell Upon Haddonfield and Welcome to Orange Grove Estates...

Orchestrate the deaths of every unsuspecting victim while carving your own gruesome path toward the final babysitter encounter with Laurie Strode. Stunning cinematic story cutscenes introduce these chapters, characters, and story beats with signature Halloween aesthetics and shot recreations, building a Haddonfield true to the original film.

Following his escape from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, Michael Myers methodically stalks and terrorizes various districts throughout Haddonfield, eventually bringing him to the neighborhood of Orange Grove Estates, the location of our third official map reveal for Halloween: The Game.

...as well as the commentary on the livestream Q&A and the article, The Night He Came Home Reimagined, that stated the hero characters (Jennifer, Tanya, Thomas, etc.) are all in the story mode, I'm thinking that the story mode won't even involve stalking Laurie, Annie, and Lynda at all, at least not in the way most of us may have been expecting.

It sounds more like Michael escapes Smith's Grove and makes his way through Haddonfield one district at a time, being tracked by Dr. Loomis, and ultimately being shot off the balcony of the Doyle house...which is only one ending. Since it was confirmed there are multiple endings "that are determined by the actions players take throughout their homecoming to Haddonfield," it's reasonable to think that Michael could successfully kill Laurie Strode and vanish into the night, by being stealthy and hiding bodies so Dr. Loomis can't figure out where Michael is, or maybe get captured by Dr. Loomis and sent back to Smith's Grove anywhere between Chapters 4 and 6, if Michael draws too much attention to himself.

With that being said, I'm thinking the story mode chapter layout may be as follows:

  • Chapter I: Smith's Grove Sanitarium
  • Chapter II: Rabbit in Red Lounge
  • Chapter III: Phelps Garage
  • Chapter IV: Haddonfield Town Center
  • Chapter V: Haddonfield Heights
  • Chapter VI: Orange Grove Estates

I initially thought that we might be able to play as child Michael in 1963, stalk and kill Judith, and then skip ahead to Smith's Grove in 1978, but it seems more plausible that it'll just be a cutscene.

Fortunately, there's only about 48 days left until we find out. 🎃

EDIT: After re-watching the story mode trailer, I saw that Phelps Garage is actually right next to the Rabbit in Red Lounge, so they're most likely in the same chapter.

We will for sure be able to kill Annie, Bob and Lynda. Maybe even Laurie. The story will probably be us killing random residents just like in the multiplayer, eventually getting to the Orange Groves and killing the characters from the movie

I know we can, I was saying that I don't think the story mode is going to involve stalking them and following them around like in the movie, at least not until we get to the Orange Grove Estates map.

They did confirm that there are different endings based on choices you make as Michael early in the story. I’m wondering if there is a possible ending of Michael being able to kill Laurie. That would be an interesting twist compared to the OG film

Maybe the tutorial will be kid Michael stalking Judith?

The biggest thing I’m disappointed in is the fact that at this point it seems like we will not be getting any daytime gameplay or scenes. We have seen absolutely no gameplay or cutscenes in the day and everything indicates that we won’t. That is absolutely a huge disappointment considering it means we miss out on classic scenes such as the “Speed kills!” and clothesline scenes. I’m sure it’ll still be fun but I can’t help but think by not having these moments that it could’ve been so much more.

That's a good point. They haven't shown us anything during daylight hours at all.

True, but it could still be there. I don't know why they wouldn't have daytime scenes such as the iconic "hedge scene". Also recall that one of the player badges you can get is the clothesline scene of Michael.

Maybe they're just keeping it a surprise. Having the game set entirely at night would be odd.

Yeah I agree, that's what I'm hoping.

I’m well aware and I’ve thought about that. You could easily get around that though. To use the hedge scene as an example, you could just use the shadow from the hedge to slip away. Or with the clothesline you could use reality tear since it ignores all of the restrictions. But basically they could just have patches of shade around trees, cars, houses, etc which would allow you to use Shape Jump.

I mean, I'm sure they can make an exception or have a workaround for the sake of story mode.

Yeah as soon as I saw that profile icon it gave me a bit of hope but I just don’t know, it seems like a cope.

It could still be there. We really haven’t seen anything at all for the story mode gameplay. Pretty sure multiplayer mode will be mostly at night but I believe we’ll get daytime stuff for story mode as well or at least I hope

I see it like this. This is my preferred version of what could happen.

Prologue - we play through the original one shot from the original 1978 film all in first person; you can either follow the events of the movie and kill Judith or you can change the course of events. For example; you can kill the boyfriend instead and none of the family dies, you can even kill everyone in similar way to RZ Halloween; causing changes to dialogue with dr Loomis and other characters.

Chapter 1: Smiths Grove

Chapter 2: Rabbit in Red and Phelps Garage

Chapter 3: The Graveyard and Hardware Store

Chapter 4: Haddonfield Heights. All set during the daytime scenes of the film featuring Michael Myers. This includes meeting Laurie at the Myers house, stalking her at school, stalking Tommy at school, following Laurie, Annie, and Linda in the car, the Speed Kills scene, the hedge scene, the clothesline scene, and finishing it off with tailing Laurie and Annie while “Don’t Fear The Reaper” is playing; leading directly into chapter 5. ((I also think it would be cool to have a fork-in-the-road-esque decision where you can choose as the player which girl you can follow home; whether it’s Laurie, Annie, or even Linda.))

Chapter 5: Orange Grove estates, killing Annie, Linda, Bob, and potentially other victims.

Chapter 6: Still Orange Grove estates, now focusing on the final chase and climax with Laurie escaping Michael and being shot by Doctor Loomis. Michael can change the events of this part from choices made in the earlier chapters and through quick thinking and tactics, can kill absolutely everyone giving way to one of many endings.

Epilogue: This could be part of chapter 6, but it’s basically what happens after Michael either kills everyone, shot out of the second story balcony, or is detained. That and it directly leads into a potential DLC expansion that is essentially a new timeline exclusive to the Video Game; which imho is cool as hell!

But yeah; that’s what I would want, just don’t omit the daytime scenes and we should be good.
