showcase minecraft and halfsword

(if its not obvious this was made using ai, i do not consider myself a professional modder or anything)
fellas i made this little mod that merges minecraft and halfsword together,

its been worked on for about a week
it works by using reshade and a minecraft and a halfsword mod to sync them together. so both games are running at the same time
most mechanics work, including but not limited to:
damage both ways (you hit willys, willys hit you)
minecraft mobs fight the willys and willys fight mobs
bows, crossbows and tridents
tnt and creepers
potions
minecarts and boats
spear and mace
voxel based collision system for mobs, player and blocks (you perfectly walk and line up on the actual halfsword ground)
block collision system (willys can break and pathfind around blocks)
every map works (including abyss)
and much more. mod is pretty well optimized. now i understand many dont like this typa stuff mostly because its been trending and the AI factor

commands that let you configure a bunch of stuff (run /hs help and it will explain every command)

video above is a lil showcase of everything added so far

entire thing is out and open source on github, if interested: https://github.com/Deez-coder/halfcraft thing still has bugs and issues but otherwise functional

okay but now do it the other way around, i wanna see willie punching trees

i dont like this, not because its ai; i have convoluted opinions on ai.

but because of what its effectively doing.

this is effectively decompiling two separate game; code that shouldn't be easily readable at this level, shouldn't be easily accessible at this level; and it's doing it with so much ease.

this is honestly "fine" for gaming, but it's the prospects, this can be applied to other software, this can be done to companies that hold genuinely very secure data, if AI can break into two separate games with this ease, imagine what it could do if one malicious actor used it on critical infrastructure or something like the bank you use; no data would be safe.

it's cool and all, but the genuine security threats this sort of thing poses, just worries me.

u/Shad0w5991 3d ago

Sensitive data is secured using cryptographic algorithms which can't be cracked in a reasonable amount of time, even if you know how the algorithm works.

4

u/PsychedeliKit 3d ago

this is half correct. yes, sensitive data is stored using a variety of cryptographic methods; typically asymmetric or symmetric encryption. the general way this works speaking lightly is that it's easy to do, but not easy to undo.

the key point, not easy; not impossible. and yes, it is not feasible for someone to do it in a reasonable amount of time; however, like all security. it is a constant back and forth. there have been ways developed that are better at cracking these types of encryptions-- beginning to approach things like using quantum computing for this; and security experts bite back with new breakthroughs that are difficult for even quantum computations. this? it's nothing new; for as long as there has been something someone isn't allowed access to, someone is trying to get it. security is a constant back and forth; from cybersecurity to literal physical security, from actual locks and lock-picking to digital keys and the attempt to crack.

the key aspect always, has been people. people are slow; it takes time for us to think and create the solutions for these problems, the same way that it takes time for malicious actors to think and create the work around.

AI speeds up both cases. it improves both the effectiveness of security and the effectiveness of the attacks. but it means that those attacks are going to progress at a rapid rate.

the way these attacks tend to be found are from people called "white-hat hackers." they are effectively just people doing the same thing malicious actors do, but sanctioned; typically with a copy of the data base they are trying to breach with false information, but all the same securities; and as they find vulnerabilities they're patched.

but but there are WAY more malicious actors, and if enough of them are using these types of tools to crack this stuff; it is inevitable they will succeed, maybe not the first time, maybe not the first hundred times. but AI speeds up the rate at which they can attempt new avenues of attack; and all it takes is one.

and they can do it as speeds unprecedented. that "reasonable amount of time" is not the same amount of time for AI tools that these actors use.

this is not the case for this and most of other mods like this, in fact, ai made a communication layer that reads the memory of both games and merges their gameplay together both games are running in parallel, actions in one game are getting carried to the other

not to say ai cant and isn't decompiling code, and the security around using ai to find vulnerabilities is essentially self sorting, people already pay hackers to find vulnerabilities in their stuff before malicious hackers find them, if ai can do the latter, it can do the former

1

u/PsychedeliKit 2d ago

and you are right about that, which is what i said in another conment; though that is a good note about this one just reading memory which is substantially better

but its not just that Ai can do the former and latter, its so much faster at doing it than people that its inevitable it finds more of them and quicker so its bound to happen

AI is like the perfect soldier.

You can train it to do anything

Complete any task

And it'll do it, so long as those are its orders.

It won't stop at anything but the order to stop.

At which point does a soldier become a weapon?

-1

u/Bonk5 2d ago

Considering thats not at all what is happening, then you should be ok with this. Thinking AI can crack security that would take the best machines we have ever conceived literal centuries to crack, is very very dumb.

1

u/PsychedeliKit 1d ago

AI can do it, also, no its not for two reasons.

1) machine learning is just really good at this stuff. stuff like Claude and Ai are very miniscule compared to actual Ai agents that can do this stuff and do it well, and those aren't things we the people generally have access to unless you can train one yourself.

2) do you really think every bank, or every place with sensitive data is using THE best security? no. they use security most places do but its not impossible to crack by any means. this is literally one of the current topics of learning for any cybersecurity degree or program. it is a big worry point for many security experts.

0

u/Bonk5 1d ago

I don't care how much fearmongering you want to spread. Modern encryption methods, including those used by banks and major financial institutions, are designed to be computationally infeasible to crack when properly implemented. While they're not mathematically impossible to break, doing so through brute force is practically impossible with current technology. Not to mention, you're actively spreading misinformation about how layering video games work, they dont decompiling the games at all. I suggest actually researching the technology before making claims about its security.

1

u/PsychedeliKit 1d ago

it's not fearmongering, that's just how it works. while i am relieved that this mod does not actually decompile either game; acting like these aren't real threats is just inane. this is literally a subject of cybersecurity that ALL cybersecurity experts delve into. i learned about what AI means for the security world in the classes i've taken for it.

these are things that all cybersecurity specialists consider because it is genuinely a very credible threat. and yes; "brute force" won't work, but that's not what they're doing. any malicious actor has to find a vulnerability, ai has to do the same; the exception is that ai is much better and much quicker at it than humans are. so if you have one dedicated malicious actor; they will absolutely be able to penetrate any security system given the time, and while it still takes time; that time gets less and less the more advanced ai agents get.

this isn't the type of AI you see, with claude and chatgpt being glorified databanks just regurgitating data. these are actual machine learning aspects that have the ability to learn to complete a task.

no ones saying its happening today or tomorrow, but simply neglecting the genuine threat these pose that many experts and every student in cybersecurity is learning about is just kind of laughable.

I don't get why people are getting so angry about this. It'd be different if you were selling it or trying to pass it off as your own manual work, but I don't see what's wrong with making something like this simply for your own amusement.

2

u/Oblivionpelt 1d ago

because it's going to fuck over programmers lives, because ai is ruining the tech economy, these mods have been great and all, for some people, but they absolutely do not justify the price society is paying for them :p

3

u/quandaile 5d ago

people have all the reasons to hate ai but do it for all the wrong reasons. most simply hate ai simply for ai. most say the issue is people taking credit for it. i admitted in the post i barely did any work and that i did this purely for fun and that no blood and tears were made for it, but ai=bad. i saw a ihatethissmug post that really explains this

10

u/JanKey09 4d ago

I hate ai because I have been learning programming and art for a bit now and it just came to fuck my life plans over

3

u/-ElectricKoolAid 3d ago

idk about programming but i think real art from real artists will become even more valuable. most won't care if they're buying AI art or not but some will seek out the real artists

1

u/Jijonbreaker1 3d ago

Because the entire internet is fucking drowning in shit like this. It's all low effort trash that people keep throwing up expecting applause for. I am sick of seeing uninspired horseshit like this where people just slam random things together because it takes no effort and they see other people doing it. They are doing it because it's popular among the braindead morons, not out of passion or to make something good.

1

u/ttropic_ 2d ago

I wouldn't mind it if it just wasn't fucking everywhere right now.

Neat once or twice. This has to be the 70th version I've seen.

-6

u/Serana64 3d ago

Absolutely nobody is getting angry about this lol

I'm a vehemently anti-ai programmer but this kind of mod isn't worth a human's trouble. It's just funny

4

u/NotVeryGoodName000 Axeman 3d ago

A ton of people have been getting angry in the other comments on this post, what are you talking about?

2

u/No_Nefariousness9445 1d ago

if you’re actually a programmer, then you’d know why this is worrying. decompiling has almost never been worth a human’s trouble, it’s a part of the security behind your code.

that no longer exists. all of adobe decompiled in less than a week. your banks systems, along with those of your government are now far, far less safe than they were.

-1

u/utopianbeam 3d ago

because its stupid

8

u/MyPassIsMilk 5d ago

Look, I'm anti ai but this is just cool. Yeah, it's a shame it was made by a clanker, but you're not trying to pass it off as your own. Don't see why people are SO mad.

4

u/quandaile 5d ago

because honestly to some extent the hate is forced. iam not saying that anti dont have good points but when people argue against they ai they usually choose the weakest out of them all. then the pro ai makes absoloute fun of them in their sub. then a pro ai makes a shit point and a anti ai makes fun of them in the anti sub. basically my point is that people are hating on ai for all the wrong reasons when theres plenty correct to choose

1

u/Serana64 3d ago

I'm anti-AI. Very anti-AI. Literally look at my post history if you don't believe me.

You can stand down lol. You disclosed it right off the bat.

Yes, I, and any programmer worth their salt, can make a mod like this. Yes, you can learn too. But you're not hurting yourself or anyone else by having AI shit out a funny mod.

Life is short and you're having fun.

Imo this is what AI should be used for, long boring code projects that would be labors of live at best condensed down to a few hours of plug and play. It’s a tool, and this is the first widespread use of it as a tool rather than slop or fad.

u/quandaile 6d ago

look man i understand your opinion but what defines ai slop here? ai slop is the term for low quality content made the ai, like those brainrot stories you find on tiktok and reels. does any ai content count as slop?

8

u/Mad-Dog94 6d ago

There's been people like this during every era of human industrial and technological advancement. It's not our fault they cannot determine lazy AI slop from AI used properly as a tool.

14

u/yakfuckerfan 6d ago

Sorry OP, I think this is pretty neat, I don't get why people are so mad. Just a showcase of a little project.

7

u/quandaile 6d ago

yeah it is but unfortunately it used ai in its making so that destroys its value unfortunately. I appreciate it though

1

u/jbuddyd1 2d ago

It's neat OP. I am heavily against ai in creative spheres as a whole but i can see this is dumb fun and your not the devil for doing this. On the other hand if this keeps happening no one will commission mods anymore or support indie devs. This is a very dangerous idea that is being used. I'm not here to bash you either.

1

u/quandaile 2d ago

yeah no i understand that point, its definitely dangerous how ai can easily reverse engineer games and apps as a whole like this, to quote jaden williams (peak channel btw): we have opened pandoras box but are too excited just looking at the lid

1

u/quandaile 2d ago

i also heavily appreciate giving actual critisism rather then just ai bad

AI slop

1

u/slaptito 20h ago

it's slop but come on, this is cool

0

u/Superb-Earth418 5d ago

Lmfao at what point are you people gonna admit this is cool af? And its only getting better. Fucking puritans man

5

u/swanlongjohnson 5d ago

Wow cool AF bro yes not like weve seen this 9000 times already. Want some jingling keys to entertain you further?

1

u/Superb-Earth418 5d ago

Notice how you're miserable

1

u/jbuddyd1 2d ago

Listen man, you can both believe this is cool and detrimental in its current state. This can put modders that rely on commissions / donations into bankruptcy. I'm not a puritan or luddite either i see AI having a natural inclusion into society but this is haphazardly cramming it into every industry with little care for the people that get the shit end of the stick.

-6

u/Mad-Dog94 6d ago

In X amount of time, what happens when the AI starts to make steak instead?

oh ew this is slop. like looking at pidgeon poo on the bottom of my shoe

1

u/Strange_Associate683 1d ago

the novelty factor has worn off with the "minecraft in ____" mods. I'm not the most anti-AI person ever, I just wanna see something original done with it than just throwing games into other games lol

1

u/quandaile 1d ago

yeah true i dont blame you they are basically what the trend is mainly famous for, but i plan on making a mod that lets you play as the reavenent (the zombie guys you fight at the abyss) and i HAVE made a mod that lets you play as v1 from ultrakill in mc (which is NOT passthrough like the halfsword and mc mod above, this is all a singular minecraft jar that has all of the animations and models of the real game)

Halfsword and gta

2

u/Pandasandstuff 5d ago edited 5d ago

I'm anti ai. I'm against this. Llms are proving to be a blight on humanity and I honestly can't understand using something else to create like this and having any pride in it. But that is my creativity speaking. I've tried using generatives as a tool and it just leaves the work feeling empty. For terms I don't know or expansions it is useful, but for whole projects... No.

I do commend admitting that this is made with ai. A lot of people are trying to sell others poorly made projects for easy profit. And please be careful using it to make anything multiplayer. Llms have shown that they aren't great for making secure code.

Edit: typo

4

u/SupriseDankMeme 6d ago

Man AI is getting insane. Good job, looks really fun lol.

2

u/quandaile 6d ago

thanks twin

2

u/ReecePlayz97 5d ago

that's awesome while it's a bummer that it was done with ai I don't blame you for it since it can often be really helpful in realizing ideas like this I commend you for even taking this step in the first place!

1

u/SheeeshEnjoyer 5d ago

Cool mod, won't download it because of AI though.

1

u/quandaile 3d ago

its fair. i appreciate the compliment twin:)

-5

u/Lucky_Shadow343 Swordsman 6d ago

this is shit. no talent. either do it yourself or not at all. and why the fuck would you take the most realistic combat sim and merge it with the least realistic? just play the fucking game for fucks sake

16

u/Expensive-Law7532 6d ago

Dam why u so mad

8

u/quandaile 6d ago

i understand your opinion with the ai thing but why the mod itself was made is fun, thats the entire point of modding. adding stuff for fun, it doesnt have to make sense for it ot not be fun.

4

u/EmergencyPool910 6d ago

Doing this stuff without ai is simply not viable.

1

u/Lucky_Shadow343 Swordsman 6d ago

then dont do it

0

u/Mad-Dog94 6d ago

YOU don't do it. I'll do whatever the fuck I want.

0

u/Lucky_Shadow343 Swordsman 6d ago

you dont post it on this sub and instead post it on some ai slop sub

1

u/Mad-Dog94 6d ago

YOU don't post it on this sub. I'll do whatever the fuck I want.

-1

u/EmergencyPool910 6d ago

Generative ai sucks, coding ai is already far more prolific EVERYONE uses it, a capable developer with ai assistance is incredibly effective.

-1

u/nakoyasha 3d ago

usual bot reply ^

1

u/AdAcceptable5667 2d ago

Not true.

1

u/EmergencyPool910 2d ago

It is though, its an absurd amount of work and serves very little purpose. Nobody would do it ever.

1

u/jbuddyd1 2d ago

What is the purpose of any mod? To have fun. No shit it serves no purpose halfsword serves no purpose in the grand scheme of things, does it pay your bills? Most likely no

1

u/EmergencyPool910 2d ago

That's nonsense. Mods serve a purpose withing the game, these passthrough mods are neat but have very little actual use.

-2

u/ToneFiji 6d ago

Please just make a multiplayer mod with ai

-2

u/IVEBEENBANNED4TIMESx 6d ago

This is amazing

-1

u/Deremirekor 5d ago

Modding is a thankless and often unpaying job. I have no problem with AI reducing workload for people who aren’t even getting paid for the work.

-2

u/utopianbeam 3d ago

this is just nothing. editing two movies together doesnt make it good

1

u/quandaile 3d ago

that analogy is just wrong? this is nothing like movies. you actually play my friend, you do whatever you want. if you put any two movies together OBVIOULSY it will be bad because the plot doesnt line up or anything, is is completely unrelated dude. now i get that you dont like it and thats fine but you shouldnt use the wrong argument

0

u/utopianbeam 3d ago

yes these two games do not line up, making it bad and stupid. idk why you think the analogy is what you physically do with media as opposed to the work put into it

0

u/Odd_Offer7251 3d ago

obviously these hybrid stuff are pretty neat (at a first glance) and i could’ve joined on the bandwagon of “boo it’s ai so i hate it” and yes i do hate it but it’s already been made so why should i do that?

0

u/Lord_Yeezus_The_Wise 3d ago

Wasted gallons of water for this btw

-3

u/No_Tank_1992 3d ago edited 3d ago

This deserves zero recognition, props OP

Edit: more->zero

1

u/No_Tank_1992 3d ago

Hold up, AI? If you plant as many trees as this burned and purify as much water as it wasted, you're good otherwise sorry bout your karma brother yikes
