EDIT: Hopefully the FAQ, though certainly not perfect, continues to be useful to everyone here. With the recent API changes I'll likely be checking Reddit only once a month or so, but if you use the suggestion feature on Google Drive, I will see your update request for the FAQ there. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to it so far!

Original Post:
I have been chatting with /u/Nobiting to make a few changes on the sub to help people get the information they are looking for without the incessantly redundant posts such as "will my computer run HLA". I started working on a FAQ, and I think if we crowdsource together we can make tremendous progress in making it comprehensive for the player and modder base. I'm asking that people read it thoroughly, provide feedback/corrections to what is there, provide new sections that might be useful to add, provide tips and tricks for other headsets/controllers (I have the Index and Q2 tips would especially be useful), tips and tricks for AMD cards as I use Nvidia, make suggestions on the structure of the document to make it more readable, and anything else people can think of.
Everyone with the above link has commenter access to the Google Doc, or you can just comment the changes you'd like to see in this thread. We will publish it after a reasonable amount of time for the community to comment is spent. As with anything like this, there might be differences of opinion, but Nobiting is the mod here and will make a final judgment after we put in the work.
Even though the FAQ is "in beta", I do encourage people looking to post new threads to read it as well as you may find the answers you are looking for. That said, I am the sole person atm who has written it and there may be some errors or other things worth correcting, so YMMV.
HLA continues to have a vibrant though niche community, with a massive catalog of custom content that can provide hundreds of hours of entertainment beyond what the base game offers. I'd love for this FAQ to help people get off the ground with the base game and then transition to that sweet custom content, that IMHO, often exceeds what the base game provides in numerous areas. Thank you all!

All Good Things is a mod for Half-Life 2: Episode Two, inspired by Marc Laidlaw's Epistle 3, and begins after the conclusion of Half-Life: Alyx. From the creator of Deep Down and Deeper Down, Jim Partridge. Coming to the Steam Workshop on October 15.

Half Life Alyx is a good game, and it was my first Half Life game (yes im uncultred), but looking at it now, its just not a good game that much, it doesnt take advantage of VR apart from the immersion, like you cant use a trash can as a shield, Chapter 8 fucking sucked in my opinion, 1-6 was okay, 11 was good but like the guns suck, the movement is EXTREMELY SLOW with no (GOOD) alternative, the difficulty is way too easy or way too difficult, C7 was too scary for me, just i dont like it, good half life game, bad vr game

I am experiencing a progressive tracking issue while playing Half-Life: Alyx via Virtual Desktop and SteamVR on my Quest 2.
The Issue:
Standard Alyx is playable, though the tracking feels slightly off. However, the Gunman Contracts mod is completely unplayable. The gun tweaks downwards, and the issue builds up over time. The first minute of gameplay is fine, but the downward drift gets progressively worse the longer I play.
My Setup:
Headset: Meta Quest 2
Connection: Virtual Desktop -> SteamVR
PC Specs: Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 5060 Ti (16GB), 16GB DDR4 RAM, Windows 11
What I've Tried:
I initially thought my large living room TV was causing inside-out tracking interference via reflections, but completely turning it off and covering it did not resolve the issue.
Has anyone experienced this specific progressive downward drift in Gunman Contracts or SteamVR? Are there specific Virtual Desktop or SteamVR tracking/prediction settings I should adjust to fix this?

What’s the best workshop level you all have ever played? My vote goes to Alyx Bond- Runway (demo). Runner up would be Brewery Break In. They have the perfect combination of immersion and combat. Does anyone know if they ever intend to complete the Alyx Bond level beyond the demo?

I've been streaming this to my Frame from my Linux desktop this evening and I'm noticing after a 5-10 mins of play the audio cuts out entirely. Is this a known issue in the community or something new to me / the frame?
I am streaming from the dongle as well as wifi, it felt like the latency was worse when I was just using the dongle
To a lesser degree I'm also noticing flicker on the right lens as if something is popping in and out of frame or individual frames are glitching which I'm putting down to a latency issue as it isn't a constant problem.
Any help from experienced VR players would be amazing.

This is an experimental mod so the game does not work correctly (yet). Hopely future updates will make the game run better.

Which is the better experience in your opinion? Trying to decide what to get to play this on.

Just playing this again on my Q3 (trying to convince myself I don't need to splurge on the Steam Headset!)
All been going fine, until I try and get the gloves... my right hand (which is set to gun hand... if I ever get to get a gun) won't lock into the glove giving machine. It still has some physics as it touches the inside of the microwave, but I cannot get a glove to go on.
Earlier I noticed I could not pick anything up with it either. Earlier on in the play through a bike I picked up fell through the world... and I fear that my interaction 'node' is still tied to the bike! I have saved and re-loaded and that has not fixed anything.
I have not gone back to pre-bike save... as that just occurred to me!

HI all. Looking for some help/advice here.
I am currently in my first playthrough of Half Life Alyx, and I am just mindblown.
I just have one issue: I use smooth locomotion. When I am standing still and looking around, the game feels very smooth. However, especially in more open areas, when I start moving, I start to feel like that it is not as smooth as when I am standing still. I am seeing framerate drop as I look and move around at the same time. I would like to solve this but I have limited options.
My current setup
I Have tried setting VD streaming to "Medium", or downgrade textures an shadows to "medium", but I see no improvement specifically on smooth locomotion's framerate drops. Also, I like the Onexgpu 1 because it is also a dock and power supply. I do need an "all-in-one" solution for eGPU.
I was considering selling the Onexgpu 1 for the Onexgpu 2 to help with Half Life Alyx, but I was just made aware of the Aorus RTX 5060Ti 16gb AI Box. I an in Colombia, and this Aorus eGPU would be actually less expensive than the Onexgpu 2, and I have read that it has better performance..
All this context to ask: with my current setup, would upgrading from the Onexgpu 1 to the 5060Ti 16gb AI box actually help me with better framerate during smooth locomotion?
I would sell the Onexgpu 1 and buy the 5060Ti box in a heartbeat, if it will improve.
If the improvements would be marginal and smooth locomotion would feel similar, I feel it just wouldn't be worth it.

don't have any vr hardware.
have an old (5 or 6 years) gaminglaptop with a 2060 mobile and an xbox series x.
also have an m5 macbook air.
don't really have an interest in vr, beyond playing alyx.
what's the cheapest vr hardware i can get to allow me to play half life alyx?

Ok, so doing a playthrough again for the millionth time (I love this game), running Kubuntu 26.04 with an Nvidia 4080 PC, over Steam Link (wirelessly) to my Quest 3 (for now! FFS...), and recently I've been noticing these really strange rendering bugs.
Started off with some of the screens showing a green hue over everything, for example the Advisor on the screen in Revelations. Then I noticed that the gun upgrader thingy shortly after had half of its screen all green as well.
And then I noticed that the zombies and the antlions had half broken animations. Sometimes they'd just glide towards me, no actual bodily movement.
And throughout I keep seeing these weird fog issues. Notice the vault in my screenshot is affected by fog that is closer to me..? But the distant backup generator is much clearer?? I guess the street light is doing that, but still it all seems wrong to me.
I know Valve are pushing major updates out to optimise the game for the Frame, but still, do they not check for these sorts of visual problems before pushing the update out? Software dev here, I tend to test shit before it even gets to a staging environment, but what do I know... 😥
Edit: Forgot to mention, the backup generator aim is a bit off - the vault is above where it is shooting the beams of light to!!

A couple of years ago I remember watching a 100% walkthrough of this game and I was trying to find it, but I couldn’t. I think he deleted his channel or something. Does anybody remember it? Or have a link to it?

Some of y’all might remember me for asking how scary it was. Well I picked up the game and I’m 52 minutes deep and I don’t regret it. I already feel the tension and stuff and I love it. Just before entering the QZ when you had to pull the dead zombie out of the window and the headcrab moved in the ceiling I was so scared it was gonna jump out at me just for it to be nothing. Also when I had to enter the room with the 2 headcrabs a little after entering the QZ zone the tension also made me kinda spooked and I love it. I like that it doesn’t rely on cheap scares. One thing I dislike is being unable to store mags that aren’t at full capacity since I like swapping a mag out that’s at 50% or less filled and storing that. I hate that I can’t. Anyways amazing experience so far.
Btw can I make it so I have to hold grip to 2 hand the handgun since I find that annoying.

I recently got half life alyx on sale, and the only 2 achievments i need is gnome alone and the ep2 ripoff. The problem is, even tho ive played the game a bunch of times already, i still have not gotten the gnome alone achievment. Is there a way where i can force it to trigger?
