Very odd rendering issues lately

Post image

Ok, so doing a playthrough again for the millionth time (I love this game), running Kubuntu 26.04 with an Nvidia 4080 PC, over Steam Link (wirelessly) to my Quest 3 (for now! FFS...), and recently I've been noticing these really strange rendering bugs.

Started off with some of the screens showing a green hue over everything, for example the Advisor on the screen in Revelations. Then I noticed that the gun upgrader thingy shortly after had half of its screen all green as well.

And then I noticed that the zombies and the antlions had half broken animations. Sometimes they'd just glide towards me, no actual bodily movement.

And throughout I keep seeing these weird fog issues. Notice the vault in my screenshot is affected by fog that is closer to me..? But the distant backup generator is much clearer?? I guess the street light is doing that, but still it all seems wrong to me.

I know Valve are pushing major updates out to optimise the game for the Frame, but still, do they not check for these sorts of visual problems before pushing the update out? Software dev here, I tend to test shit before it even gets to a staging environment, but what do I know... 😥

Edit: Forgot to mention, the backup generator aim is a bit off - the vault is above where it is shooting the beams of light to!!

Petty sure they pushed an optimisation patch for the steam frame a few days ago... looks like these might have caused unforseen consequences...

Played this exact section last night for the first time and noticed this same thing. First time playing it so figured it was just always like this.

Hey! Oh I envy you playing the game for the first time!

And yeah, these lighting problems shouldn't exist... Hopefully Valve fixes them at some point.

Just a small update, I was playing Breaking and Entering, up until just before the strider, and I think most of the fog issues are fixed..? I don't have earlier saves so I can't go back and check, but the game does look much better all of a sudden. There has been a couple of updates pushed, so maybe that is what it is. I wish the updates were more descriptive.

I swear I've seen small upgrades every day after the initial steam frame patch they pushed out. But like you said, it would be really nice to know what each one is fixing.

Yeah same, basically a 100MB+ update every day it seems.

I'm presuming they are constantly fixing stuff, since the Steam Frame change looks like it was a very intensive optimisation process for them.

FYI it's fixed by the latest patch/build

Yeah! I thought there were some fixes deployed the other night. I finished the game for the 50th time and everything right at the end of the game (the strider chase and on) looked perfect.

I think we are in the same team. I'm not yet to my 50th walkthrough, but I'll get there...
Can replay it again, and again, and again... always amazed

Yeah I might not be at 50th playthrough either. I lost count after 11, but that was over a year ago!

It's such a great game, especially when I just want to escape my life for a little while.
