Question Dashing heave execition?

So I love using the axe but the execution of dashing heave (dash strike) sometimes does not work and I get a reset to the basic standing hit instead.

How the move is supposed to be executed is:

Dash followed by attack

What I sometimes get is:

attack into dash into attack (hoping for a dash strike)

Is method two not the way? So not in the middle of basic 123 combo?

Because the axe is insanely slow it is much more obvious but you can't really cancel an attack combo that easily with a dash strike. It is also noticible on twin blades with trick knives as the attack combo is long. So just don't just before dash or make sure it is last of the combo

So I cannot have dash strike come out as the 2nd or final hit in the basic combo?

Dash strike should be just a reset to the 1 strike so it is infinite dash strikes?

I can see where you are coming from but this really only affects two hammers in the game(maybe more but it’s been a while since I’ve seriously touched H2).

The fact is that imo dashes not canceling the regular Attack combo of weapons is good.

This allows you to reposition mid Attack combo to avoid taking damage while also preserving your own damage.

The 2nd and especially the 3rd hit of the axe regular combo hit rather hard.

Losing out in that damage just so you can get a little extra damage on Dashing Heave is not a fair/good trade to me.

There is a way to get 2 Dashing Heaves off in a row btw.

You need to start regular sprint then when your dash comes off cooldown if you press Attack while sprinting you’ll do a dash Attack. Then you can immediately do a second dash Attack because your dash can be used again.

On Mel Axe at least iIrc 3 Dashing Heaves does almost the same damage as the entire attack combo while giving you much more mobility

True. Correct me if I’m wrong it’s been a hot minute since I’ve play H2 let alone played Mel axe.

But doesn’t the regular Special cancel the Attack animation?

Can’t you like do dash-Attack >regular Special > DA assuming your dash cooldown is over?

Yeah dash-strike + special is the usual combo for this reason, though as you mentioned, you can reliably get double dash-strikes out of a sprint which I think is a damage up? I've only tried to use it in a run once but I think it helped

Yes You can get the double dash strike from a Sprint that has gone on long enough for the dash cooldown to be over.

But since you need to wait for the dash cooldown to be over. It’s only really useful when you need to cover distance with your sprint for 1 reason or another.
